The best escape room I've ever done! We did the room named "the gift." They have several different rooms that are all intertwined into one story. The great thing is that you can pick and choose one room or come back to do them all! The room was difficult, but not frustrating. We had a lot of fun despite not getting out in an hour. We were so close!! We will definitely be back to try other rooms. Something unique is that they also have a "mini room" that you can do that takes a half hour. Red door Richmond is located in the Short Pump Town Center mall right below Maggiano's. Our room guide, Allan, was outstanding! For "hints" they have a TV in the room where your hint is written out. I preferred this over other places I've been where someone comes over an intercom with the clues. The whole team was super kind and personable. The GM came out to talk to us as well so we got to learn a bit more about the location which was really cool. Definitely going to come back to do some more rooms. They look awesome!!! read more

So I go to a lot of escape rooms. I even own an escape room. And was beyond excited to go to red door. But when the room is good and the staff is bad. And that staff is the manager, I cant support I was actually planning on doing two back to back rooms once they offer the bounceback discount. No way! We were two people in THE FAIR game room. Two people isn't enough usually to solve anything as not enough manpower But you get clues. Do what u can. And then see what u missed. Super fun The light puzzle didn't work. Needed to wait until combination came up with operable lights. When we asked for clues , the staff didn't know what puzzle we were on. continuously.. a pet peeve. So much wasted time. But overall we liked the puzzles ,decor and room. But in end when we didn't solve we asked if the MGR could go over what was left and he actually said no? We understand if someone coming in next. But when asked if someone was coming up, he actually admitted there was no one afterwards? He just didn't want to help and wanted to reset the room and u could come back and do it again? Then we explained to mgr that we were upset. That it doesn't cost anything to go over the puzzles. We are out of town and that helps us truly understand the full scope to determine if we liked it. And he says oh well? He could care less. I said we would post negative and he basically said he didn't care. So here it is. Escape rooms are virtually all profit made by reviews and repeat business. Why would a request so simple be not only ignored but when confronted with customer being upset still treated with disdain. Shame on you red door and ownership. Reconsider your manager. He lost you not just a second room that day but when I come back to visit Richmond to see my daughter on college and completing the remaining available games It's all profit for red door and super cheesy that he wouldn't go over rest of room either bc lazy. Or really wanted us to book the same room twice? When asked if I wanted to do another room on his upsell and I shook my head further showing my displeasure, he had one more chance to make it right and nope. Then on way out I said openly I was upset and really think he is Making wrong choice and he still said oh well. There are so many good escape rooms run by good staff and franchises. We should not support franchises who could care less about customers Avoid And sure they could care less about this review either read more

Today we tried the prison break in the red door escape room. We have done numerous escape rooms before and have done multiple experiences in the red door escape room itself. But this was by far the worst experience we have had - with our host Donna. We had a large party (to celebrate a birthday) and she did a lousy job from the start till the end. Everything from getting the waivers signed, leading us to the wrong wait room, reducing our time, not assisting when needed and even raising her voice at the adults/kids when they were holding the props at the end. She did practically everything wrong!!! We have never had a worser game host! If you get Donna, just walk out. Our experience with other hosts have been good! read more

We had a GREAT time at this new escape room at Short Pump Mall. I purposely asked for the hardest challenge, which they said has a 27% chance of escaping. Accepted. I roll like that. We took on The Gift challenge, which has three rooms. Room one, we got out of quickly with no problem. But when we got to room two, that's where we stayed and got stuck. While I enjoyed the challenge, I do think it's a flaw in escape room design when you are overloaded with unnecessary information, which is the case in room two of The Gift. The game masters said they thought for sure we'd get out because of how quickly we got out of room one and how we were analyzing the clues. Anyhow, we will definitely be back again. Red Door is a lot of fun. We have done three different escape rooms at Red Door. They were all very well done. The only reason we did not give 5 stars is due to our last experience. We do not believe that the room was firing correctly. There were two clues/puzzles that we completed, but the action never fired. When we asked what we did wrong, the game attendant sort of brushed it off and said "Yeah, sometimes that one does not work." But that will not deter us from trying another room. read more

This was my first escape room and as far as experiences, it was pretty damn good. I did the prison break one, it was a huge blast. Did two rooms here simultaneously for a soccer team. They both did Prison Break and escaped the room. My husband and I also did Fair Game room. It was an excellent and fun experience for all. I liked the level of difficulty for each and the format that each room had multiple new rooms unveiled during the experience. Would love to go back again and highly recommend. Oh and the service was also good, even during crazy busy periods. The location of this room is also perfect, it is in the beautiful short pump town center; so near great shopping and restaurants. Summary: great room but a terrible, rude staff. Long version: We have done many escape rooms and this escape room was great. The staff was the complete downfall and reason for 2 stars. Last night we went for my daughters 19th birthday. We were a tame crowd. Respectful. We follow the rules & just wanted to play the game. We were excited. As anyone who has played an escape room before knows, they are extremely dark. This one was exceptionally so. I am 44 with middle aged eyes, I could not see some of the teeny tiny number on some of the locks & such, so I pulled out my cell phone flashlight. I received a typed message of "no phones" by our Game Master over the computer screen. No one mentioned cell phone were prohibited before we entered. It was clear what I was doing and I did not understand why that would be of concern to anyone. I ignored it-I was playing the game, harming nothing and using a small flashlight to see. It was no big deal to anyone in our group. The phone flashlight was one maybe 30 seconds...maybe minute...? Not long and had no impact on the game, room or props. Then, a staff member interrupted the game to tell me if I did not turn off my flashlight, we would be asked to leave. I was surprised...and questioned it...for a flashlight?! She repeated the threat. I rolled my eyes and cut it off. We all were surprised at the response and annoyed by the tone of which we were spoken to over something so incidental. It was an extreme reaction. We all muttered how ridiculous the whole thing was. But that was the extent of our reaction and went back to playing the game even though we were annoyed. We then started getting passive aggressive notes over the computer monitors like "your game master can hear you please be kind." Seriously? No one ever even as much cursed. Nothing came close to inappropriate. There was nothing more than few side comments about power tripping people...which was this staff. We rolled our eyes (again) finished the game. Doubt I'll go back to this place. Too bad because the rooms were great. read more

We love escape rooms so much, and this one is by far one of my all time favorites! Joey was our game master, and he was wonderful. Sam at the front desk was outstanding.
