I went to a Red Diversion's event held at the Paramount. It was a The Big Lebowski scavenger hunt and then a screening of the movie. The movie is my boyfriend's favorite movie. The scavenger hunt was more like a clue hunt with teams of 2-4 running all over downtown to receive points for completing different challenges. While the ideas and the actual staff were awesome, the execution was less than awesome.
First is started 30 minutes late, because they were letting teams late register. Er, I don't care if you let people that day register, but you shouldn't let people come in late and if they do well then start the even on time and then those teams should be forced to start at the late time they arrived. Because they started late the movie was pushed back and that just screwed everybody, even people who were not in the hunt but just there to see the movie. I AM A VERY TIME ORIENTED PERSON, MY TIME IS VALUABLE...get your stuff together and have your event on time.
Second, everybody started off with the same clue. This created mass exodus with everybody headed to the same booth. And then there was a huge line to get your next clue. This was also a problem because you didn't actually have to solve your clues, you could just follow the herd. All the teams followed the same clues and traveled to the same booths in the same order, which got easier as more and more teams lagged behind but was still not as fun as having teams start off with different clues.
Third, there was not a good set of rules. There were teams on bikes, and that is just not fair. Of course they are going to beat everybody....they are on bikes not on foot.
Fourth, you could earn points by procuring items, like a traditional scavenger hunt. My problem with this is you had to buy these items, you couldn't take photos with them, and I wasn't willing to buy things on top of the $15 I had already spent to participate in the event and see the movie.
For the record Travis and I did end up finishing the hunt and did have a blast. But I think that was mostly because we had a good attitude and were having fun.
It was overall ill planned event and I don't know if I will be attending another one of their events. read more
