Don't let the walk over keep you from coming in. The food is delicious, and the service is friendly and homey. Dinner for three on a recent weekday evening and my husband and I got there early before our friend. They let us sit and gave us a pitcher of water and glasses and menus to look at while we wait. Finally our friend shows up, we order, et voila, the food starts coming! I also like the self service chai :) We enjoyed samosas, saag paneer, a couple of naan, butter chicken, and a lamb curry. We left stuffed! We beat the dinner rush, having sat down before 6P but when we left, the place was buzzing. We were lingering and catching up but different dishes kept coming out and I wanted to see what other people were eating. We'll just have to come back and taste more dishes and take more photos!

This place was really good - a great place to stop and have a quick bite before seeing a show. Also I appreciate that the prices are reasonable - a lot of entrees between 10-15 dollars. The chicken tikka masala that I had with my thali plate was some of the most flavorful I've had in a while. This place has a good-sized eating area and it's pretty casual. We actually ending up sitting and chatting for awhile and they weren't in a hurry to kick us out or anything. I also appreciated that they have free chai to drink. The staff was all very nice and food came quickly!

For some reason, I've never had fish tandoori so when I found Red Chili on Yelp and saw that they had this I knew I had to try it. Unfortunately they don't honor the Yelp check-in discount and this was a bummer. The restaurant looked clean enough when we entered. The interiors were forgettable but I wasn't expecting much anyway. It wasn't fancy dining and I was there to have a taste of their fish tandoori. My hubby ordered the lamb meat thali for his meal. Once we settled, an employee informed us that they served complimentary hot chai tea. When our dishes finally arrived, my husband's plate was huge! We were both surprised with amount of food included in his order. He said that lamb was tender and flavorful; the accompanying side dishes and naan were yummy too. My fish was good but didn't wow me so to speak. I like the flavor but I felt that something was missing... perhaps a spicy kick? Service was a bit slower especially since we were the only ones in the restaurant. I appreciated the free tea offer but didn't like it. Overall, I feel like this is between a 3 and 4 but maybe closer to a 3.

This place is our goto spot whenever we visit SFO.. their momos are always a must .. we were in sfo for couple a days and we daily dined at this place during our stay.. the quality of food is 10/10 along with their hospitality.. the naans they serve is smeared with butter and freshly made... the best is their complimentary chai.. which is like an icing on the cake... their fish is beyond words.. it's one of the best we had... a must visit if you're in San Francisco

I heard good things about this place, but overall I would not recommend or again. I paid $22 for naan and butter chicken which had 4 pieces of chicken in it, and the toughest chicken I've eaten in a while. The neighborhood was also sus, a lot of homeless people, but that's to be expected of tenderloin.

Yelp really did us wrong when we were looking for a late night joint for Pakistani food. Friday evening after an event I did a yelp search and it said Shalimar on Jones street was open till midnight. We get there at 11pm and its closed. We walk over to Chutney and its closed, and then to Pakwan and they have stopped taking any more orders. Someone dining at Pakwan says try Red Chilli, they are open late and have Pakistani food. So we walk to Red Chilli and ask the nice gentleman at the counter what time the place closes and he says 1:30am! Without making this a rambling review, good food, great service and a feeling of friendship and brotherhood at this late night hole in the wall place. We ordered fish pakoras, Chicken Karahi, Chicken Biryani and Naan, and everything was quite good. At nearby tables everyone else was getting the chicken or goat thali (set meal) and that definitely seemed like a good deal. The owner Raja Khalid was friendly, attentive, and from our observation seems a generous host. He went up to all tables asking if anyone would like a serving of freshly made daal (gratis!) and then proceeded to serve it from his saucepan! The overall experience was nice enough that we would return if we are ever in the area again.

I had gotten this as it sounded healthier- just stir fried chicken, veggies, tomato sauce, and spices- but the oil really over powered here. Shalimar Chawal- basic rice with some spices/flavor. For the price it was good. I'd be open to trying again in the future, but really hoping it's not as oily next time.

I think it's one of the better value (and very good) Pakistani/Indian food. Nice takeout spot or late-night food option, but the interior is pretty rustic, welcoming, and cozy as well. Staff is helpful, warm, and friendly. Love the chicken tikka masala, saag paneer, and naan. Bursting with flavor and spices. Good portions. Need to come back to try the goat biryani and a wrap. Please do not drive here. I can't imagine parking here. Walk or bike or bus or it's walkable from BART and Muni Metro's Powell station (or maybe Civic Center, it's kind-of in the middle I think.) This is my hands down favorite Indian/Pakistani place for takeout - the food always tastes fresh, staff makes it quickly, and it arrives hot. Everything tastes as you would expect (rice, Chicken Tikka Masala, garlic naan, etc.) - the real stand outs are the Chicken Biriani (the vegetable one is never what I hope it will be) and the Daal - the lentils. Their Daal is rich, spicy (in the best way) and the sliced jalapeños really make it. Pro tip: You get enough for at least 3 meals - so get it for dinner and enjoy it for a couple lunches!

The lamb korma had so much flavor, a little spice kick (loved it), and the chana dal was surprisingly good too. I hate any kind of beans but this was so good. My picky toddler even ate the lamb and rice! It was that good. My husband lamb wrap was a treat too. They had this sort of sweat relish, it went so well with the lamb. The lady who was at the front was SUPER nice, super accommodating. We had a crazy toddler. She brought over water and eventually came over and dropped our food off. We sat in the back patio. But what was off-putting was the smell of the wings after we boxed it up and took it home! It had this gamey chicken smell as if it was old chicken.
