The multifloral honey is also great for local allergies, which is a huge bonus around here. If you have kiddos, this place is extra fun because they sometimes have a live hive in the store where you can watch the bees and try to spot the queen. My daughter loved this. I would definitely call ahead first though because the hive setup changes and sometimes hives have to be moved or replaced due to disease or seasonal issues. We also buy their honey sticks in bulk -- literally 100 at a time. They are the perfect car snack, hiking backpack snack, or little treat to keep on hand. Our whole family goes through them constantly. They're at local farmers markets too, but honestly I love driving out to the ranch itself. There's something peaceful about the whole setting -- seeing the open land, horses wandering around looking like they're walking through the clouds, and getting to pet their sweet dog while picking up honey. It just feels very Idaho in the best way.

In 2 hours we learned about where Steele rents its hives; how to open and inspect a hive; and how to recognize the queen bee from the drones and worker bees. We were even challenged to find the queen in two hives. We got to sample a small bit of honey directly from the frame, and it was delicious. Our guide Goose was amazing - very interactive with the youngsters, helpful and patient. We highly recommend this fun experience to anyone interested in learning more about bees, what an apiary does, or just more about Idaho agriculture. Oh, the honey is delicious and you can purchase some to take home at the end of your activity.

I like their slogan: "Come for a bundle (of lavender)...stay for the food, music and more." Note that aside from during their events, they are appointment only, so just contact them before showing up. I'll be back! (And yes, yes I did inhale their lavender fudge...)

On their Facebook profile 44 Fruit & Veg: local family owned and operated fruit stand. The Shade…read morefamily first began in the fruit business on Highway 44 in the 1940's. I am surprised no one has reviewed this fruit & vegetable stand before now. Been waiting all winter for them to open as a client told me about them last year. It's a pretty good sized 'stand' and there were two young men and an older chap, Mel, working during my visit. I took advantage of Mel's experience and asked him a lot of questions about what they sold, where it was from and the most important question, 'How in the heck do you pick a good melon?' The guy is a wealth of information and he doesn't mind sharing it. The stand is located on the south side of the highway, between Linder Rd and Eagle Rd. Parking area is not that big - I'd think on the weekends it might get full and you will have to park along the shoulder of the highway. We bought asparagus, cantalope (Mel picked it for us), oranges, honeycrisp apples and mango jam. I was going nuts not being able to find mango jam since moving to ID. They sell local pies by Penny - haven't tried one, yet. Also saw bread and honey, too. There's one item that I specifically wanted from this stand, but (not gonna lie) not going to name it as the competition could get tough. The quality of fruit and vegetables looked good and I intend to keep coming back during this year's season. One thing I absolutely looked forward to in moving to southern Idaho is the fresh produce. So happy the season is here!

I have been coming here for a couple of years and thought that it's wonderful to have a farm stand so close to where we leave. The prices of the goods, although high to me is reasonable because I know how competitive it is out there and quite hard for small business to turn a profit. That said, I think if they can't compete with the prices then I believe they must go out of their way to be friendly and exhibit excellent customer service. I happened to passed by the store today and turned around because I saw that the box peaches are now available. I parked and picked a box of peaches from the middle rack after inquiring how much they are which was $38.99. When I brought my box to pay an older man sorting the vegetables with glasses commented that the box I picked seemed too full and asked where I picked them up. I then pointed at the row of peaches to which he replied he was surprised that I could even get the boxes out from the second shelf insinuating that I somehow put more peaches on top of the box that I picked. On closer look all the boxes are bursting with peaches. I said I'm happy to pick another box. He stormed off inside and I simply smiled and paid cash and took my box. I daresay as much as I love to support local business I don't believe I will be coming back. It's a shame really but this one experience put such a sour taste in my mouth. Maybe he was having a bad day, but surely to run a successful business you must put aside your emotion and go about being a nice person to those who pay good money so you can in turn put food in your stomach. I overlooked the dilapidated building, the endless exposure of produce to harmful chemical from cars whizzing by, the high prices but I draw the line on customer service. If you are treated kindly the prices and conditions sometimes can be overlooked. Now my eyes are opened. Guess I'm back to Whole Foods. At least they don't harass me and they are a lot nicer. Plus they have fresher fruits and vegetables and more selection.

Unfortunately, our experience was pretty disappointing overall. We ordered three sandwiches to and only one -- the meatloaf sandwich -- was decent. My husband ordered the Kansas City brisket sandwich, and unfortunately ours came with just a few very thick-cut pieces of brisket that weren't very appetizing. Based on other photos/reviews, it may have been an off day, but the flavor and texture in the sandwich we received were disappointing. I ordered the Reuben, and the bread-to-meat ratio was way off (photo attached). It was mostly bread with very little filling, especially for a ~$14 sandwich. The sides were okay, but the portions overall felt pretty minimal given the pricing. I always want to support local restaurants, especially ones prioritizing local ingredients, so this was a letdown. Based on this visit, I wouldn't go out of my way to return.
