That doesn't bother me though - I'd beat any one of these guys at pool! Hurrah. I like Cask.

A fact that made me go there was the following - The interior of the pub today is included in the CAMRA National Inventory, a list compiled by the lobbying group of the only remaining 250 pub interiors (out of over 60,000) in Great Britain that remain of outstanding heritage interest!! The 1908 bar from is still in place, and is definitely unlike I have ever seen, it is a floor to ceiling carved wooded masterpiece! there is beautiful original tiling too .. and a lovely little snug to get cosy in! as you would expect with this calibre of bar, you can order from an array of beers! The beer is supplied by the famous independent Stockport Brewery, Robinsons, you will also find seasonal brews! The food is good too, on my visit I had 6oz Rump Steak & Caramelised Red Onions, Mustard Mayonnaise ciabatta for only £6.50 !! the menu is quite varied, but they stick to the best of British pub grub... nothing too fancy or trying too hard, just very good honest food!

The pastry is so good and the filling delicious. I also recommend the home made sponge puddings they do with homemade custard. Well worth a visit during lunch time. The atmosphere is great: the place has a character, emphasised by various posters on the wall. The food is really good, I especially love how they serve wedges in a red tin mug. Additionally, portions are normally more than generous. Price-wise, most burgers are priced between 10-12 pounds, small plates are under 7 pounds. There is a balcony area upstairs, for those who want some fresh air. They have a huge selection of beers and ales. I mean, huge! They also do hot drinks, such as my favourite mocha, which also comes with a cookie;)

I have to say that I am highly impressed :)…read more Being a tour guide for the day, to my Yorkshire friend I contemplated where to take him after a trip to the museum. Sitting in Spinning Fields he said "Pub grub!" So whipping out my trusty Yelp app, the Knott was the closest. Arriving my curiosity was peeked..and like everywhere it was filled with Sunday diners. Stealthily we grabbed a table and poured over the menu. To most people Sunday dinner for a tenner could be considered a little expensive in comparison to the likes of Witherspoon. But the add on feature was fantastic, for £2 extra you could choose a starter or dessert.. So for £12 for a starter and main I was impressed, especially when I saw what food was coming out! Settling on a prawn starter and veggie roast dinner I trotted to the bar. Wow...I thought I'd died and gone to beer heaven. Lots to choose from, from deadly ale, craft beers , strawberry beer, cider...and a million other things. Despite its busyness staff were attentive, polite and helpful recommending beverages Returning to the table with beers in hand, it was not long before our food arrived. I smelled the garlic way before I even saw the prawns, they were fantastically flavoured and guaranteed to keep the vampires away. These devoured, the great Yorkshire pudding mountain appeared, looming over a veggie nut roast and tasty parsnips and broccoli...supported by roasties..the quality and price put a smile on my face. My friend had the soup and sandwich deal for £10 and everything looked fresh and vibrant. All three of us were impressed by the quality for such a great price, the choice of beer and that rustic atmosphere.. I will come again for a Sunday roast at least .

Have you ever found that once you have your local, and your pub quiz, you kind of feel like you're cheating on it if you attend another pub quiz? Well, I had this situation with the Crescent. Large's pub quiz only came around once a month so it's wasn't that bad. And I wouldn't be a good little Yelper if I didn't use it as an excuse to check out this pub. Situated on the edge of the Northern Quarter conveniently close to the Arndale and Shudehill, The English Lounge is a cosy, traditional-looking boozer that serves down-to-earth pub grub and provides a bit of respite from the quirk and hipsterville of the NQ and the ostentatious tackiness of the Printworks posse. The homey cosiness of the place is exemplified with dark wood, leather sofas and quintessential Englishness - bookshelves in a pub anyone? I'm to be found at the Cityco meetings here and I always enjoy popping in. Sometimes I'll treat myself to a little wine beforehand and chat with some business owners, and that's always been lovely. The wine that is, not the business owners. Although for the most part they're alright, as it goes. There are all sorts of vouchers and offers associated with this pub so you could save a pretty penny too, especially with the meal deals. The food's on until 9.30pm and it's run by lovely people - aces, no? Note: no wifi! Laptops to be left at home...

An absolute must for real ale lovers, there is no brewery attached. Instead, they have up to eight pumps (a minimum of four) of both real ales and more mainstream beers like Fosters. Both these and drinks that I myself actually drink are very reasonably priced for a pub just on the outskirts of the Northern Quarter. If you're not familiar with the area just walk all the way down Oldham Street then cross over the main road- its right in front of you. It is very quiet during the day but that is what some people want after all. No, where the Crown and Kettle really could do with improvement is the food. I think it really lets itself down as it just isn't good pub food- maybe if they perked up the menu more people would straggle in during the day. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure they don't want trade to be roaring at all hours - just a thought.

It was still some exotic…read morefar-flung suburb to me, as I rarely made it any further out of the city centre than Fallowfield. As a student in Manchester, however, you cannot fail to have heard about the Didsbury Dozen - a pub crawl targeting 12 of Didsbury's watering holes. I personally never did the dozen, but I knew several people who did. There are several pubs that welcome the pub crawlers with open arms, several that would probably rather they weren't there but couldn't afford to kick them out, and a couple who are totally against the concept and will not allow pub crawlers onto their premises. Fletcher Moss is an example of the latter, and I had heard stories about the nasty spoil-sport of a manager at this pub. However, five years on, and I am much older and wiser. I appreciate good beer and music that will not drown out your conversation. On setting foot in the Fletcher Moss I was not at all surprised that the management had refused to serve pub crawlers. It is a quiet CAMRA pub with no loud music and no football. Some would class this as a boring pub, but the older I'm getting the more I find myself enjoying visits to places like this.

Whether this was a good/bad/average experience I'm not sure - but it was definitely an experience! Put it this way, on a Saturday night - the main pub actually seems to become a dance floor playing all the classics of soul while middle/later age peeps put on their glad rags and dance around living the dream like John Travolta in Saturday night fever. And why not... What's weird is that everyone is still just sat around drinking their pints of Hydes casually while the queue for the bar merges with the 'dance floor' - put it this way, one bump out of the queue and you could find yourself doing the waltz with a mid 50's blonde in a matter of moments. Beer is fairly average Hydes stuff (Summer Ale was best of a bad bunch) - but for entertainment value and a sense of WTF - this was a cool night out.
