It's hard to find Jamaican food in NoVa, so when Red Bone was in my area during lunch, I figured I'd satisfy a craving. It's a really brightly colored truck and plays reggae, plus has friendly staff. I ordered the jerk platter, which comes with collards and rice and peas, plus a beef patty. The menu should've been clear--it was BBQ jerk chicken, not jerk chicken, which you can see from my photo. It didn't look appetizing, but I was hungry. The chicken was dry and the whole meal had no flavor. The beef patty was good though--flaky crust and a bit spicy. I guess I'll keep looking for Jamaican food in my area. read more

I really don't want to post a snobby review, so I will keep it short and simple. 1. It wasn't worth me waiting for my order in this hot weather. 2. The rice and peas were flavorless and too mushy. But...on more positive note, the jerk chicken taco was good. Just had some inedible parts in one of my tacos though. So in my opinion, it isn't really worth the 12 dollars you pay. I really just want to express how disappointed I am with Red Bone. I am a full fledged West Indian so I know what a good plate of rice & peas w/cabbage and curry goat supposed to taste like and what they serving folks ain't IT! Their prices from the previous year went up and I am all for it but make sure when your prices go up your quality of food and service goes up too! Servings are small and undesirable. Fantastic food, prices and service. We used them for a big family party, after being impressed with them at a friend's graduation party a few months prior. My husband and I both work in DC and have tried many food truck cuisines. This definitely ranks in our Top 5. Not impressed just wasn't what I expected. Portions are small and not worth it. Mahi mahi clearly was previously frozen and had no flavor but was drenched in some type of sweet sauce. Mac and cheese was super dry flavorless and over cooked. My rice and peas looked good but very bland and hard not appetizing at all. Service was ok could have been better. I would never go back or recommend. Plus they only had water and Gatorade! Like where is the ginger beer? Plus why are we calling this Jamaican food it's just bad Jamaican food. 1 star. Not for the food, but for their inconsideration and poor business practices. I am responsible for scheduling food trucks at a brewery. I reached out to Red Bone in September and received confirmation from them on 9/15 that they would be at our brewery to serve today, December 2nd. After several hungry customers had repeatedly asked when the truck would be there (and they should've been already), I called them to see when I could expect them to arrive. I was told unapologetically, "My help is out of town. I can't make it." I've had trucks cancel before and it can easily be dealt with, but to not have the decency to let me know that you won't be coming is disrespectful and unprofessional. The menu was simplified and easy to figure out - not too much and not too little. Choose your base, your protein and spice level. The head chef and everything else was very friendly. I had jerk chicken over salad - extra spicy. It was off the chart good. Yummy! The wait was a little longer than I expected but so worth it.. I think the prices are on par with many good food trucks. Our office recently had food catered from Redbone. We got trays of the Jerked Chicken, Chicken Curry, Collard Greens and Rice and our office loved it all! Very authentic Caribbean food around the DMV area which is very hard to find and we can't wait to get more food catered from them. They are very professional and a great change of pace from the norm food catering! We'll definitely be getting food from them again soon!! read more

Redbone strikes a nostalgic chord with me that made it an instant favorite. There's not a lot of places around here to find curried goat, but Redbone makes it so authentic and delicious you can close your eyes, look up at the sun and feel like you're on a beach in the Caribbean. The meat is melt in your mouth tender. The spices are perfect. The greens are sweet and fragrant. I don't know how I haven't had this sooner. Get some empanadas or beef patties on the side and a few of the many varieties of sauces on the side (hot sauce is a must). I'm a little surprised that I couldn't find the Redbone food truck here on yelp. While they are new to me, they've surely been in business long enough for someone to have added them. Recently they started making once a week stops near my office, and I braved the heatwave to sample some of their wares. They claim Caribbean fusion as their cuisine but a lot of the menu items seemed straight forward; goat curry, terriaki burger, jerk burger. Each item had a picture and description on a piece of paper attached to the side of the truck. I got a fried pork cutlet sandwich for only $7 so I added an order of beef empanadas($3 for two). The sandwich was good, the pork had a thick crunchy panko crust and the sweet sauce went with it very well. Reminded me a lot of Japanese katsu. The empanads were very good, and they certainly had a Caribbean flavor with raisins and allspice flavor really coming through. I would go back, very interested in their yakisoba (even though it wasnt on the menu this day). read more
