I'd been waiting for my next inter-state trip to Queensland to finally come visit this brewery and…read moreI was not disappointed! The brewery is located in an industrial park about 25-30mins drive outside of Brisbane CBD (approx. $50 cab ride or $40 UberX oneway). We were pleasantly surprised to find the brewery buzzing when we arrived, a game of Cornhole underway in the front outdoor area, tables filled with beer paddles & a food truck (Puerto Taco) churning out delicious tacos to make sure we had a stomach lining while we tasted all their delicious beer. The inside bar/brewery/seating area is cozy, tables adorned with lamps made from old ten pin bowling pins, a games area upstairs as well as other board games to master at your tables while you drink. The bar itself has plenty of taps meaning they can have plenty of rotating beers on show and also keep a decent bottle list for dine-in or takeaway too. And of course this leads me to their beer, I was already a fan before I arrived but Bacchus put out some really creative & interesting craft beers, meaning you'll more than likely find something to drink whether you're a beer snob, beer n00b or non-beer drinker (everyone has to try the Lamington Dark Ale, the nose alone will sweep you away to Lamington-land :p).

Well, not surprisingly I decided to pop in for a drink, and I was certainly rewarded with some great beers, and a rather nice atmosphere as well. Then again there is really little that you can do wrong with these small craft beer breweries, which honestly seem to be getting smaller and smaller as time goes on. This place is no exception.

The tunes, the people, the bar staff - everything was pointing towards this being my new happy place. I ordered a Batlow Saison Cider (I know. Amazing. Saison CIDER) and chatted with the bar staff. I was intreguied by their boilermaker menu and after a while, we were walking away like I was a regular part of the furniture. There's just something about Catchment. It's designed really well, the venue feels inviting and the staff are there to have a good time and make you great drinks. Catchment gave me an opportunity to smash beers, play darts and have good chats; what more could you want?

Naturally we had to visit one of their facilities on this trip, and he planned our drive around Gold Coast to visit the original taproom. It was a weekend afternoon so it was super quiet, just one other customer. The bartender was immediately welcoming and eager to talk and pour. It's a smaller location in a commercial plaza, with open doors and two sections: the bar and a few tables, and an event area with barrels and tables. They had a big selection of to-go beer as well. I had a flight of favorite styles and wasn't disappointed in any of them. Great quality and selection overall. If you're a beer fan and vacationing in Gold Coast, this is a must visit. Check their social media for events.

Add the vintage display cabinet, old skool chairs and bench seating you'd be forgiven to think your were at a friends uni flat with free furniture. Really enjoyed the mass variety of food and the sliders were exceptional. I really wanted one of everything tbh! After the lunch few of the lads went up to the bar and they had roughly 4-5 different beers on tap. All locally brewed at Byron bay brewery. That we did actually have one of each. The barmen weren't very engaging at first but as the beers flowed they seemed to relax a bit and enjoy our company. Over all good experience and would love to return.
Most burger places these days seem to focus on "bigger is better", often resulting in messy meals…read morethat are hard to finish or even fit in your mouth in the first place, with juice dripping down the arms and staining your favourite shirt. Thank god for Pigs and Pints, a fantastic gourmet slider burger place. Slider burgers are tiny little burgers that focus on simplicity and flavour, not size. I ordered the $20 special, which got me 3 sliders (or 'pigs'), a bowel of home made potato crisps, and a pint of beer. The crisps were delicious, crunchy, and expertly hand crafted, with just enough salt and herbs. The burgers themselves were served in a little black box, which the waitress open like she was revealing buried treasure. Probably because real treasure lay inside. The first slider contained a good slice of slow cooked pork belly with a sweet and spicy jam. The second was simply called 'the cheese burger' and is apparently one of the most popular; perfectly fried halumi, lemon and herb dressing and rocket. The final slider, grilled tofu, was the weakest of the bunch with not much flavour and tofu that was a little dry. But that didn't stop me from ordering two more sliders: a spicy salmon, and a tai chicken. Both were great. A great night out for a group of friends that want to try something a little different.

It was so unexpectedly wonderful that my wife and I bragged about it to others later in the evening. I can remember the tremendous flavor right now a day later. My daughter had the sliders that were also quite wonderful. The double IPA was exactly what you'd expect from a top notch brewery. We finished with a double expression that was a little bitter but robust. Excellent food and environment. We will go there again.
I'm a fan of beer. Ok that's a lie. I'm Obsessed with beer and Brews Brother is my de facto temple…read moreof devotion to this delicious alcoholic beverage. Where do I start with this place? Let's describe it first in very concrete terms. It's a DYI brewery with everything you need to brew your own 50L keg of beer. Let me please reiterate this: 50 L of beer. 140 long neck. Brews Brothers provides the malts, sugars, hops, yeasts and even the large vats to cook your desired concoction. Don't have a family recipe? Have no fear. They have a beer menu of literally hundreds of different styles of beer (check the website). My friends and I have brewed several kegs and I've personally enjoyed most the Belgian Tripel and Tokyo Superdry. The former is a dark smooth beer with the consistency of Duvel while the latter is like an Asahi or Kirin. If you've never brewed or bottled beer, the staff is always available to lend a hand throughout the process. They're incredibly helpful and chill even when there are a lot of people in the store. So let's say you don't want to brew 50L but you still want to sample the wide range of beers. What can you do? There are a couple options and yes I've tried them all: - 6 pack variety ($15-20 depending on the types of beer you choose) - 24 pack carton ($30-40 if you bring your own bottles - they tend to have 10-15 different types of beer on type to choose from and you effectively just bottle one of those kegs yourself without having to do the entire brewing process from the start) - ready-made 50L keg ($150-200 for the beer + $50L for keg rental) We did this for a house party and it was well worth it! Honestly I could go on and on about this place but there's no substitute for actually visiting. Grab a couple friends and go! I promise you won't regret it.
We've all been there before. You decided one summer that you wanted to start making homebrew. You…read moredidn't do something right and your brew got infected, or you didn't add enough sugar when bottling, (or some other problem happened) and you ended up with a whole lot of nasty beer and vowed never to try it again. You should try again because Brews Brothers is here to stop you from messing it up a second time around. Brews Brothers looks like an old office space that's had it's guts ripped out and has been transformed into a brewer's paradise. You've got your brew kettles, brew fridges, and bottling stations set up spick and span for your use. All the brews are 50 litres (144 330ml stubbies), and will set you back anywhere from $150 to $200. Depending on what brew you choose to make, it will take from two weeks up to a month to complete the process and walk out with your 50 litres. You are of course, welcomed to bring in your own recipe and try it out. They've got all the hops, malts, sugars, and grains you need to do whatever you want. The guys are really friendly, they know their beer and they're keen as mustard to get in there and help you put on a brew. You can buy beer from them outright without having to make it yourself too. There's also a space upstairs that they rent out to musos and bands on weekends. It costs $60 per hour (please check website), and you have to buy $150 worth of their beer. The best thing about making your own beer is that you can make a tonne of brew specially designed to your acquired tastes on the cheap that won't give you a hangover because it's preservative and chemical free. You also learn something about science while you're at. How can you argue with that?

I was also able to meet up with some other friends, so everyone was buying everyone else beers and we stayed a lot longer than planned. It's in a residential former industrial area too, with a warehouse vibe with high ceilings and mostly brewing equipment. They had a robust tap list of various styles, but really lean heavily into IPAs. The bartender was immediately friendly and welcoming, even though it was getting busy with the after work crowd, he was still extra attentive. Prices were reasonable for the quality. They also had a number of cans on premises you could take out or enjoy there. Their beer is easier to find in alcohol stores in the region too, so if you've enjoyed some it's worth a visit to the source itself. It's a must visit brewery in Brisbane.
