I am Colette Burau's client in the transaction referred to in the review by Don R. I just became aware of this review and wish to respond to the patently false accusations of unethical behavior by Ms. Burau. I was in a contract with Mr. R. to purchase a home on Highland Drive in Carson City for a negotiated price of $227,500. The purchase was pending satisfactory physical and pest inspections on the home. These inspections revealed active termite infestation as well as mold and moisture issues in the crawl space of the home. Other issues were also revealed and repairs were suggested. The seller refused to remediate many of the repairs and denied the termite issues claiming that the termites had already been remediated. His assertion was that the inspector was mistaking evidence of past infestation for active termites. Ms. Burau and worked in good faith with the seller to come to an equitable remediation agreement for the issues brought to light by these inspections. Ultimately, the parties involved agreed to have a second pest inspection in an attempt to settle the matter. The second inspector concurred with the prognosis of active infestation, showing us live termites brought up from the crawl space. Despite the second inspector's evidence, the seller continued to insist that the termite infestation had been remediated and was no longer an issue. It is a testament to his arrogance that Mr. R. would expect me to take his word over that of reputable, licensed inspectors who showed us clear evidence of the issues in the home. Mr. R. approached me after the second pest inspection and verbally indicated that he would understand if I wished to cancel the agreement. After some thought, I requested to withdraw from the contract and the Mr. R agreed with no stipulations. I withdrew from the contract on October 15, 2012. I have since learned that the house in question went under contract on October 19, 2012 and was sold for the full asking price of $237,000. If Mr. R. wishes to engage in speculation of unethical behavior one could suggest that he urged me to withdraw so he could benefit from an additional $9,500 on the sale of the home. Regardless of the final outcome, I certainly hope the current owners received full disclosure of the inspections and are aware that, while Mr. R. did a very attractive cosmetic remodel of the home, there were significant issues left un-remediated at the time I withdrew from the purchase.
Ms. Burau has been my real estate agent since 2005 and has carefully guided me through 3 real estate transactions with utmost professionalism and with a complete lack of self-interest. I did, indeed, enter into a contract to purchase one of Ms. Burau's listings after I withdrew from the contract with Mr. R. The home I purchased was listed on October 24 - nearly 10 days after I withdrew from the previous contract. Ms. Burau never once steered me toward her listings in preference to any other listing nor did she urge me to withdraw from Mr. R's listing to purchase hers.
I wish I could address the allegations Mr. R. makes against Mr. Lincoln in his review but don't have firsthand knowledge of those transactions. I will reiterate that I have dealt with the Carson City ReMax office since 2005 and have never had anything but stellar service from the people there. Given the false allegations regarding the transaction with Ms. Burau I would hazard that the allegation against Mr. Lincoln is equally untrue. read more
