We went here today for a birthday party. We were ice skating as adults and kids. They have a wall you can hold if you are new at ice skating. The Zamboni resurfaces the ice every 45 minutes during the open skate. It was a smooth process paying and getting the rental ice skates. My only complaint was that the line was long to get food and drinks. Also we had to stand to eat since many of the tables were dirty. But overall we had a good time here and would go back. read more

Came here with my nieces for a birthday party. Granted, it was a weekend and busy, but the place was filthy. Food spilled all over the place, candy wrappers & trash everywhere. The party room was clean, as was the actual ice rink, but the place looked old and not very well kept. There was a problem with staffing and the kids did not get the full allotted skating time for which the party was booked. The snack bar was my nieces' favorite part. I enjoyed the cappuccino (from a machine) and the popcorn was their favorite. I definitely would not return to this place of my own accord. read more

Book the birthday party package for my Daughters 11th birthday. I won't lie! It took a while to get in touch with the person in charge of booking, but once I did, everything was smooth sailing. We had been here once before for another party but this was a really good experience. My daughter, her friends and family that we invited all enjoyed themselves and made wonderful memories. Two full sized regulation hockey rinks. They hosted a hockey tournament for Rage and they did a great job. Rinks are well maintained and spectator areas are generous. Plenty of parking at this huge multi-sport complex. Reasonable snack bar. A very good hockey shop (The Ice Den) with knowledgeable and capable staff. All the services, skate sharpening, gear, hats, etc. They will order what you want if they don't have it in their stock. A very active and varied schedule of events, classes, free skating and lessons. You can also reserve ice and facilities for a party or your own event. RDV is a great place to go for families, date nights, or birthday parties. I grew up coming here to watch my cousin play on a league and his birthday party almost every year. I still go now as my husband plays on a league. We have attended the public skate a few times and enjoy the atmosphere and cheap date night idea. We have our own skates so we usually only pay $7-$10 for skating. The staff all seems to be pretty friendly especially those on the rink for public skate making sure that those that fall are okay. The ice den does have some snacks like nachos, pretzels, popcorn and more. It's not the best but it's enough to fulfill a craving or a quick bite. My one complaint is the bathrooms. They are always pretty gross and I try to avoid them at all costs but On the days I've been there for a few hours it was inevitable. But they tend to have a foul odor and often have towels or toilet paper all over the floor. The counters are always wet and while I understand there are kids constantly in and out of there, this is the only bathroom in the main lobby. read more

I'm reviewing specifically as a hockey parent. I really enjoy the RDV Ice Den! My son participates in hockey there and it's nice just to have an ice rink nearby. The staff members are friendly and the facility offers a wide range of skating programs. They have a nice retail pro shop on site which is great when you run out of hockey tape or need your skates sharpened. Besides hockey and figure skating, the RDV also offers "Kids Skate Out" (formally Kids Night Out) every other week which frees up a Friday night for parents. It's $30 from 6-11pm for skating, pizza, a craft and movie. Technically they require a 24 hour notice but we have taken our son in the day of with no problem. RDV will cancel Kids Skate Out if a minimum number of kids don't sign up. The only con to us is that there aren't enough hockey coaches so hockey parents (those of which used to play) are often recruited and don't get to see their own kids play. I guess it's like this in most sports. As I always comment on the restrooms in most of my reviews, the RDV restrooms are spacious and clean! Great place to learn to skate. They have a great program for all ages. If more advanced, figure skating academy as well as private instructors. Love the public skating hours although I will suggest to learn to control the crowd. Sometimes kids think they are playing hockey making it a bit dangerous for those learning to skate. read more

The Ice Den Pro Shop is the only true hockey store around that I know of. You can find some gear at Play It Again Sports, but the quality isn't the same as the Pro Shop. With that in mind, you shouldn't be surprised to hear that the Ice Den Pro Shop is pretty pricey. I don't place Ice myself, I only play dek hockey. That means I'm not failure with prices on skates or skate sharpening or anything related to the ice. I really go for sticks and tape, and possibly gloves and shin pads if I need an upgrade. Sticks will run anywhere from $50-$300. That's kind of the norm though unless you're buying multipacks online. Tape is pretty cheap (compared to other local stores) at $3.00 a roll. It's also worth noting that the Pro Shop is the only place you can definitely find tape at any given time. The Pro Shop also carries a fair amount of outfits and supplies for figure skaters. You can also find some NHL and Orlando Solar Bears merchandise here. If you're looking for Solar Bears shirts, hats, jerseys, or whatever and don't want to pay the shipping online, just come in and get it here. read more

Hadn't been skating in ages and thought it would be a nice thing to do on a mental health day before my therapist appointment later. About 30 minutes into the open ice session, the police approach me asking for my ID because I was violating a trespass order (my first time ever there). It wasn't on me, and the cops got a bit terse about it. An employee then runs up to let them know they have the wrong person. Somehow, they mistook the 5 foot 6 Hispanic man with black hair in his 30s for a 6 foot tall Caucasian blonde teenager. I didn't really feel comfortable there anymore after that. I got an apology, a refund, and an offer of a free skate session. Sadly, that doesn't make up for the new issues I'll have to bring up in therapy. It's a shame as the skating was pretty therapeutic before the profiling. I probably would have gone back, but I feel incredibly uncomfortable. In the future, I suggest treating your patrons with a bit more respect, and verifying who they are before sending the cops after them. read more

I like this place..I always go there to learn to skate when it's open to public. DJ music @ weekend nights, only downside is SO MANY KIDS FLOODING THE RINK. But who cares about these annoying teenagers..haha I still have lots of fun every time I go there. It's the only Olympic size ice rink I can find in Orlando. What better way to cool off on a hot summer afternoon then by ice skating? I took advantage of one of those deal websites to get two admissions, skate rentals and snacks for an afternoon skate session at RDV's Ice Den. We had to buy one addition admission at $7, I thought was a little steep for a 3 year old! But they don't have children's rates so we had no choice. Since it was a Sunday afternoon the place wasn't very crowded. The lights stayed on, which was good, because there were a lot of little kids there. They had the Ice Den bear on the ice for the first 30 minutes or so. It looked like the old Solar Bears mascot- if you remember the Orlando Solar Bears! The music was a mix of top 40 with hits from the 80s and 90s. Basic stuff. We took my son for his first time on the ice and ended up holding him by his arms and pushing his around the ice. I was amazed at the little kids (I'm talking 3 and 4 year olds!) skating circles around me. I asked one of the Dads what was the secret. He said his boy took one of the Learn To Skate classes held here. I checked into it and am going to sign up my son for a fall class. Classes are 1 day a week for 8 weeks and cost $102. The first class they asses the kids' skills and put them in to groups accordingly. There are no more than 8 in a group. I should take the class! Especially since I can count the number of times I've ice skated on two hands! Most of the employees were friendly enough, in that I'm a teenager and this is my summer job kind of way. The rental skates weren't comfortable, but weren't horrible either. The temperature on the ice was warmer than I thought it would be. I wore a sweatshirt over a short sleeve shirt but once moving I wouldn't have needed the sweatshirt. The concession stand is kind of sad. The free popcorn was that cheap kind. But they do get points for selling Barnie's Coffee. read more

Although I hung up my skates several years ago, I used to play hockey here and it's actually a pretty good facility. There isn't much to compare it to because unless you drive out to Kissimmee, they're the only game in town. The complex has two ice-pads, which are almost always being used. They offer public skating, hockey and figure skating. The public skating is pretty much useless because it's always full of little kids falling all over the place. If you go for a public skate I would recommend finding a time on a weekday when the kids are in school. If you have kids they do birthday parties and skating lessons. The dues for the hockey and figure skating programs are a bit steep but if you think about the kind of liability insurance they probably have to carry it doesn't seem so bad. They also have a pro-shop, which again, is about the only game in town. The pro shop is serviceable; they have a good amount of skates and equipment. You can get cheaper prices online but it's a good place to go in and try on some skates to see what fits. I'm not really convinced about how knowledgeable the kids are that work in the pro shop--that's just a roll of the dice. read more

Attended a birthday party for Sara today and it was amazing!!! Kirk our RDV party host was great with the kids! Our son has CP and he took the time to help him skate. Very patient and kind!!! The party was very organized and the kids had so much fun. The pizza was snacks were served by Kirk. The room was private and very comfortable. He kept the kids on task and everything went very smoothly. Because of this experience my son wants to take skating lessons, something we never would have considered with his challenges. By the end of the party, our son went around the rink several times and did not want to leave the ice. Kirk told my son he was a "natural" and my son couldn't be happier!!! This review is for Ryan and Jeff in the RDV Ice Pro Shop. I inquired about the Jackson Ultima Mystique Skates and sizing because I was going to order them online since I had a gift card. Ryan said he would order the freestyle version in the size ten so I could try them on. I came back today to find out that he actually ordered my size in the Jackson Mystiques (which they don't ever carry), which was amazing and I bought them right there. They sharpened them for free and also heat molded them for me so that they would fit me better. I can't thank Ryan and Jeff enough for going out of their way to make me happy! Love this place. My son is doing the learn to skate ice hockey program and he loves it. Staff have been very nice and helpful. One of these days I will work up the courage to get out on the ice and give it a try. We got 10 free skates for ice skating, when we signed my son up for the lessons. I've played hockey in a few different rinks around the state, and as far as rinks in FL go, it doesn't get much better than the ice den. It's a little pricey, but not terrible. They have quite a few leagues, and even better, there are pickup games almost every day! (Sometimes twice a day!) I've never seen that at any other rink. With my crazy schedule, it was really nice to be able to fit ice time into my schedule no matter what day I was free. The people were friendly, the ice was always hard, and the facility was nice and clean. Only thing is make sure you go around to the entrance for the Ice Den, not the rest of the RDV Sportsplex. I parked on the wrong side of the building the first time and made the mistake of carrying my bag all the way through the gym to get to the ice den. It's a LONG walk with hockey equipment on your shoulder! read more

I had my daughter's birthday party at the ice den. The party was fun and the person that helped us the day of was great! however, Danielle Amado the birthday planner is a nightmare to deal with. She gave me the wrong pricing and information at first then said she get back to me on two separate occasions and never did. She didn't even confirm the party. I had to call her multiple times. This is one of those experiences where the service affects how I see everything. First, the place was quite nice. They take good care of their ice. The main staff was so friendly and personable from the front desk to the rentals to the food bar to the safety patrol. I would totally take my friends and kids here nonstop. HOWEVER, I had a really bad experience with a manager that affected my entire visit. Aaron the manager had a stick up his butt and lacked all personable traits the staff did. The way he spoke to me and my friends was rude. He heavily insisted for us to spend more money and that we need to hire coaches hinting that we were bad skaters. It was very obvious money grabbing. I witnessed him telling one of his staff members to kick a girl off the ice because she was practicing her balance. He kicked a young man off the ice because he was an above average skill level and shouldn't be there. All the mean while there were literal groups of girls with blades in the air that wasn't kicked off the ice. He interrupted me when I was complimenting the two kids he kicked off. It just ruined it for me. A manager should be a good leader and representative of the rink, and he wasn't. He alone would be a reason why I wouldn't take my friends and kids here. My 6 year old daughter's birthday party was scheduled at an outdoor venue. Unfortunately the weather was not cooperating that day so I thought about rescheduling but my daughter had already waited 3 weeks past her birthday for her party. So, 3 hours before the party was supposed to start, we decided to move the event somewhere else. I looked into ice skating at rdv and learned they had a group rate but they did not allow outside food so we wouldn't be able to do her cake. But after speaking with the group sales coordinator Kim, we realized they had a party room available that we could rent by the hour. It was actually quite affordable and solved our problem. We arrived at the skate rink, skated, got the party room (which was all set up for us), had the cake and everything went off without a hitch! Kim even managed to round up some candles and a lighter which got left at home. They've raised their prices high. It use to be $6 to skate but now its up to $12. Due to their busy Friday nights, if you are there to watch your teens skate you have to pay an admission fee of $5-$10 so you might as well pay to skate with your kids. The food is not so good because its left in the warmers for hours. Don't get ice with your drinks because its not clean where it comes from. If you order a pretzel and the staff member doesn't feel like wearing gloves to heat it up in the microwave, they tell you the pretzels are broken and unsellable. If you buy something from the vending machine and it eats your money, they won't refund you because you need to call the number on the vending machine since its separate from the company. It's an ok atmosphere. read more
