If you're going for a physical and you think you might need to have some lab work done (i.e., a 12-hour fasting blood test for cholesterol), get a morning appointment for your physical and make sure you don't eat before you go in so you can go directly to the lab afterwards. That way, you won't have to come back the next day just for the lab tests and pay another $9 parking. If you're a hiker like me and familiar with the Westwood neighborhood, you can find street parking; metered in the Village itself or free parking in the residential area. It took me 20 minutes to walk from Midvale and Levering. My wife also uses Shirley as her general practitioner, and she loves her. As much as I hate the drive into crowded West LA (everything I need, I can find in the South Bay), my annual physical is something I actually look forward to.

She listens and cares about my individual symptoms - not just some "standardized template" so many other doctors seem to get defensive about when asked about trying different approaches. UCLA charges this much because they actually don't want people to be able to pay. That empowers them to write off the "losses" to maintain their non-profit and tax advantaged status, while profiting handsomely off insurance. My insurance paid nearly $600 for only a few blood tests, while Function health tests for 10x more for $365 (or simply pay cash for the tests at Quest). UCLA is now charging me $700 for what insurance didn't cover. The whole US medical system is a joke, where hospitals and insurers profit and people suffer. Unfortunately, UCLA is complicit in it even more than the for profit lab corporations.

It is SO rare these days to meet a doctor that not only has a genuine interest in your health but one that is working nights at an Urgent Care facility. I had to take a few tests and I just assumed I would have to chase down and follow up to get my results. To my surprise Dr. Aronin himself called me a few hours later to tell me the results. WHAT?!? NEVER has a doctor called me the same day to give my results and suggest further treatment. I was completely taken aback. Not to mention the efficiency that my messages were replied to and referrals that I needed were address and sent out. I wanted Dr. Aronin to be my PCP however sadly he is not taking on any new patients at this time. So so sad as this by far is THE best doctor I have come to know in my 60 years. To feel heard, taken care of and a level of stress that is eliminated because of his attention, level of care and communication to his patients. The staff was already aware of the accident. When I arrived at the front desk to check in, Dr. Aronin refused to see me and told me to reschedule. A few minutes' delay for a documented emergency outside his own office, communicated in advance, wasn't enough to earn any flexibility. I'll be finding a new primary care physician, and I'd suggest anyone who values a doctor with basic grace for his patients do the same.

UCLA Medical Center is the most practical and convenient medical practice I have ever been exposed to. When you're in their system, anywhere you go they can pull up all your records and see what's going on. And they usually send you a follow-up review request so you can let UCLA know how you liked your visit. The only unfortunate issue in this visit had nothing to do with the medical center and that was that my appt happened to be on the day after there was an underground explosion on Westwood Blvd., and the entire intersection by the medical center was closed! Luckily I know how to cut through the university so was only delayed a few minutes. Talk about your news trucks all over the place! UCLA Medical, you rock!

I've had some basic questions about meds and one question that required more urgent feedback. I sent an email and his responses were always quick and helpful. During the recent COVID-19 pandemic, Dr. Schechter has also used the secure email portal to send his patients information and updates about the crisis which I've found very helpful. Took severely days to get an appointment. I requested she use Marcaine before sticking large needles to remove the old blood left in veins that were causing pain very close to the bone on my ankle. Was told she does not like to use Marcaine and it "does not hurt that much." After the first needle and my screaming in pain, Marcaine was used. Follow- up The doctor missed many of the smaller veins, I came back for additional treatment. After waiting 55 minutes with an early morning appointment I walked out. The GOOD: Office staff is nice The BAD: Doctor lacks bedside manners and has no regards for anyone else's time but her own.

Dr. Leichter is a vascular surgeon of great skill. She is exceedingly well-educated, and her training has been first-rate. In addition to great technical skill, Dr Leichter has one attribute that is too-often lacking in a surgeon and that is a real-world personality. I have been on her table a total of six times, with two of them being emergency situations. On both of those occasions, I threw a clot and was in danger of bleeding out through my femoral artery. That I am typing this review should tell you all that you need to know about her competence. Here is what comes in addition to the excellent technical skill - real information that you can actually understand! Before every procedure, Dr Leichter calmly; carefully and thoroughly explains what your situation is; the available treatment options; her recommendations ranked in order, and the prognosis going forward. She does this in real-speak, NOT Doctor-babble. By the time you give your consent to a procedure, you are well and truly informed (which doers not happen with every cutter or anesthesiologist). As I said, Dr. Leichter saved my life twice. I would not hesitate to see her again. I would not hesitate to recommend her to anyone. My wife will become a patient of hers in the next few months. If I even thought that she might like something that was in my power to obtain, i'd call in every favor to get it for her. You do that for people who have kept you breathing. The secretary is rude and as sharp as a knife, with no common courtesy whatsoever. She has always be little me,embarrassed me, and made me feel like I was a bad person because I needed medication for pain. Recently the CVS ran into a complication and needed to verified the doctors DEA registration. Because with out it I was unable to refill my prescription. I asked Susan to call the pharmacy for me at 9:00 am, but she yelled at me and told me that she had sick patients there and at the end of the day she would call the pharmacy around 7:00 pm. So that meant I had to Miss 2 dose of medication. I told her that I am a patient as well and that the phone call would only take her three minutes.... She yelled at me again. So now I learn that the doctor has ran into some legal issue with the DEA and is unable to right my Prescription. After 5 years of me being a patient I would've thought that I would've gotten a referral to a different doctor. But Susan told me to never come back and that I should go to a emergency room. I honestly believe that if Dr. had different secretaries running the office it would be a very pleasant experience for all of his clients.
