I am completely perplexed as to how a place like this stays open. Their prices are considerably more expensive than all of the bigger market chains, yet they have plenty of loyal customers. I mean, I get when you're the only game in town; in places such as Merlin, or Kirby, or wherever, but in Phoenix? Just drive five minutes north to Winco. I get paying more for a "cleaner" market ambiance like Albertson's and Fred Meyer do, but Ray's? I don't get it! Even Thunderbird/Food 4 Less prices are much lower, so you go there for price and not atmosphere. But what in the world keeps people coming into Ray's?

The store is handy late night when you don't want to drive to Medford - it works

I've been waiting to write my review because of all the "not so good" reviews Rays has had in the past. I can walk to this store from my home, so being close is a plus. When you first go into the store it's like a throwback to the 80's on theme. Very traditional store decor with the huge lettering identifying the section of the store. They have a decent selection of goods and a fairly large produce section with organic choices as well. The employees have always been super friendly to me. I've never gotten anyone that was creepy or weird. Just local people working to make a living. The store is clean- they have a fresh butcher area and it's well maintained. There's a Wells Fargo mini branch here inside too. They have a video/DVD rental place on the produce side with fresh flowers and a little gift area. I've lived near this store for 3 years now and it's nice to have it so close when I don't want to drive to Medford. The only drawback is prices. They are more expensive and you pay for convenience. If they weren't so expensive then they would get more of my major shopping business . I go here for a quick gallon of milk or organic produce. They have good sales occasionally and I get emails letting me know. Overall I don't have anything bad to say about this local store that really does try to make a good impression on the community.

    Wells Fargo was nice inside

Overpriced and a poor selection of goods. Good, only if it's your only choice. Buy a bike and two-wheel it somewhere else.

As an avid juicer, I personally don't like majority of juices you can buy because they're just not fresh enough. The flavor isn't the same. But here, they use organic produce and make the juice fresh on the spot - it is a centrifugal juicer but as long as you drink it relatively quickly it doesn't matter. We tried a slice of the gluten free pizza, it was the best gluten free pizza I've had. Crisp on the bottom, not floppy but it wasn't super hard or dry either. The crust was actually delicious and overall just really good. I would imagine their non gluten free pizza is really good if the gluten free is that good. The grocery store itself is also great. Fantastic selection, great bulk area. Friendly staff. Good vibes. Highly recommend.

For example, Freddy's is one of the rare places in town that consistently sells super high-quality Baby Gem lettuce AND for a very competitive price. Bless their hearts, they also sell organic orange cherry tomatoes well into the winter when no one else does and they taste wonderful!!! Because the grocery store is primarily conventional, I shop here very carefully. My husband and I only eat organic food and I don't want to mistakenly purchase something I think is organic and drive home with it only to find out that it is conventional. I don't shop in any other part of this really huge store but I do value the grocery section. They have an excellent selection of artisan cheese, olives, and lots of other things that are pretty hard to get up here in Southern Oregon. I find that the people who work here are consistently very warm and friendly, which I very much appreciate. It makes doing my errands is a great deal more pleasurable. And, I also really appreciate that I get points for what I purchase in the grocery section which we apply to purchasing gas at Freddy's. My husband says that Costco and Fred Meyers have the most competitive prices for gas consistently so that's where we buy our gas Thank you very much for all that you do. Please keep doing it!!!

When you search for jeans and all it brings up is 4 pages of Depends, there is a competency issue) First, no ads by the entrance, next they had closed the fitting rooms "for the rest of the evening" per an employee. Four hours before closing they blocked off the fitting rooms with chairs and refused use. Then found they had closed all but one register in groceries and waited a very long time. When I said it was wrong to close the fitting rooms, the checker said "you can bring them back". Uh...ya, at $5 a gallon and a couple hours of my time. Then to cap it all off, I got home finally and found that checker had not taken the alarm tag off. You can't remove those without a special device. So...I have to spend extra time and money anyway

I called market of choice spoke to the bakery manager and I was absolutely disgusted by this individual. I said there was a piece of paper with tape and it has ingredients on it with the number 5. She says that that is normal thing for displayed cakes and scoffed it doesn't have ingredients on it like I was lying. It's on the bottom of the cake and she then says you didn't see the plastic when you were serving these cakes to these kids? First of all no I did not, omg are you suggesting I was negligent? I cut the cake in wedges from the box and served it flat on a white plate. I remember looking at the plates and did not see it. I did not expect the plastic. I suspect that it was wedged on the side of the cake and it got pushed in. It went unnoticed because if you see the picture it's pretty noticeable, it's an 1.5" piece of paper with plastic tape but if it's in the cake I'm not going to see it. They offered a refund and they can have it. I am dissatisfied with this place and their lack of professionalism. I was an upset mom and they treated me like I was culpable of serving plastics to little kids. To the manager who called me a liar that there was no ingredients on the paper, read it for yourself. I was simply describing what was found in the cake.

On the other side of the coin, whomever in the store is in charge of pricing seems to be out of touch in some areas. For example, last week a bunch of celery was $5 while at Medford Food Co-op the organic celery was $3 a bunch and looked gorgeous. Tasted gorgeous, too. Since HerbPharm was sold a couple of years ago, their prices have increased SIGNIFICANTLY -- almost doubling with some products. One of those products is Valerian 4 ounce bottles. Last summer I used to pay around $30 a bottle. Right now at Shop 'n Kart that same bottle is $47.99. No way. Needless to say, I did not purchase it there. I checked on Amazon where the price was less expensive but I thought I could still do better I went to Medford Food Co-op and found the exact thing I was looking for. The Wednesday wellness discount of 10% plus my $5 owner discount brought the price per bottle down to a little over $30. BIG improvement!!! I purchased three bottles and did the rest of my shopping in the store. When I encounter price gouging like what I described earlier in this review, it causes me to leave the store and do the rest of my shopping elsewhere. When I do that, I usually find I can get what I want at a better price overall. Jes sayin' ...

They have a great bulk section as well. I always check out the meat department but I don't usually purchase because the prices appear to be higher than anywhere else except the Neiman-Marcus of Southern Oregon, Ashland Food Co-Op. I don't typically purchase meat there either because the prices are even higher unless something is on sale and it's something I need. I love the charming acquaintance of MFC, payed lime green and purple and nestled back in tall beautiful trees and greenery. The feeling when I pull into that parking lot is incredibly soothing -- and it's right on Riverside Drive. Go figure? Everyone who works at MFC is kind, warm, and welcoming. They're also really helpful if I have a question or I need something that they might not sell regularly or I just can't find it in the store. I never have a long wait at checkout because they understand service and a cashier comes up to the front immediately when there is anyone waiting to check out. Very, very impressive! Another thing that I really appreciate is that the store is always spotless and organized as well as 100% organic. I don't have to worry about buying something, driving home, and discovering that I purchased conventional food which I do not eat. MFC generally has the things that I want to purchase and it's very easy for me to efficiently pop in by what I need and get back on the road to finish my errands and go home.
