Our dryer's heating element broke on Thursday morning. We called up Ray's the same afternoon and Scott came out at 5:00 on his way back through Bristol. He came here and diagnosed and replaced the part within 35 minutes. Prices were very reasonable and he was so friendly. I could not believe the turnaround time and great service. OMGosh, Ray was wonderful. I called about an 4 1/2 year old oven issue and of course, my warranty expired 6 months ago. Anyway, I explained my issue over the phone and he was able diagnosed the issue and told me how to confirm the problem with basically a screw driver. He saved me a diagnostic fee and it turns out the broken baking element is covered under the 10 year limited parts warranty through Whirlpool! So basically, I can fix my oven for free thanks to Ray's phone advise. Who does that anymore???? Super grateful for Ray's advise and will definitely use him in the future and will recommend him to others. read more

The day before I was to go on vacation, my washer quit spinning. I thought I could at least diagnose the problem, which I did, correctly, woohoo for me. But I didn't want to rewire the lid switch that had just crumbled in my hand... so I did a Google search and saw the reviews for Ray's Appliances on here. Thank you Yelp for introducing me to this quick, thorough, amazing place. Ray himself came to my house, fixed the lid switch, also diagnosed a problem I'm having with my dryer (too close to the wall, duh!) and talked me out of buying a brand-new machine because the one I have is just fine, thank you very much. All while being nice, low-priced, and did I mention they came within 15 minutes of my call? I would give this six stars if I could. You saved me $1000 at least -- not to mention vacation stress! read more

Called Ray's to get my front burner repaired on my stove. Appointment was scheduled between 11-1 and they did not show up until 3:45. I called at 2 asking if it was still scheduled for today, they said yes but just running a bit behind. It is now 3:30 and I finally get a call saying they will be there in 10 minutes, after I had left work early that day to be there for 11-1. Repair man seemed extremely rushed and only stayed for 15 minutes to diagnose the issue and still charged me full rate, only to tell me he doesn't have the part and needs to order it and schedule another visit. Upon departure he says I will receive a call that night in regards to how much the part will cost and ask if I will want to move forward with the repair. No call back until Thursday night with the repair man telling me they've already ordered the part and are ready to come the next day without my authorization. Within this time I had found an alternate method to repair and got the burner up and running. Will not be going back to Ray's Appliance due to their poor communication skills. Simply could have called me at the end of the 11-1 window letting me know they are running behind, and also could have been more transparent in calling me back that same night regarding the replacement part. Called Ray's on a Friday afternoon and got a call back within an hour. I explained the problem with my dryer and setup and appointment within a 2 hour window for the upcoming Monday. They detailed the general labor and diagnostic cost and explained parts would be additional. They were right on time, friendly and quickly diagnosed and repaired my dryer. The cost was right on from what they had originally mentioned so there were no surprises. Great overall experience, will use again, but hopefully everything stays working. read more

I called Ray's to repair a gas stove. They came out immediately, diagnosed the problem quickly, replaced the igniter and were done within 20 minutes. Very professional, no hassle and were reasonable. I would use them again. read more

LACK OF COMPETENCE I had occasion to use Scott of Ray's Appliance Repair for two separate appliances, recently and earlier in the year. Each time there were issues with long waits for parts being ordered, but I don't know how standard that is with a smaller business. However, my dealings with Scott left me unsatisfied in the extreme. He could and should have checked appliance and repair thoroughly each time, which would have precluded return service visits. Simply put, it didn't work after the first "fix". He was also less than professional in my opinion, blaming others for issues and using a combative tone and raised voice when questioned. Luckily, there are many other service providers with both competence and professional demeanor eager for my business. read more

Never called back-3 messages left. How can you run a business by not calling people back when they want to give you money?

I called Ray's last Friday, because my refrigerator was heating up around the edges. I spoke with Scott, who, as soon as I told him what was going on, asked me "you have dogs don't you?" (yes, two heavily shedding dogs) When i replied in the affirmative, he told me that he *could* come out and take a look at it (and charge me their $85 service fee), but I would be better off getting down on the floor and making sure that all the dog hair was vacuumed out from underneath and see if that fixed the problem before asking him to come out. (this already had my husband saying that we would definitely be calling them for any other repairs...he's all for anyone other than him telling me to clean ;-) and...of course the fact that they didn't want to charge us for something we could do ourselves) I went home that night and put my vacuum cleaner through its paces, and made sure there were no real dust bunnies anywhere underneath. This helped a little bit, but this morning, while i was pulling stuff out of the fridge, i noticed the edges were again boiling hot. I called again this morning, and about 20 minutes after leaving a message, Scott called me back. He started by telling me that they would be there by the end of the day, and then checked his schedule, and realized that his next call was actually on my street, so he said he would be there before lunchtime. I ran home, and by the time I got there, he was already there (someone was there to let him in-They just needed me to pay the man), and he had already pulled the part out and was headed to his truck to get the replacement. He was super personable, and willing to answer questions about another appliance I have that is having issues (the joys of home ownership) while working on the fridge. He was there a little bit over the first 30 minutes included in the service call, but didn't charge me any extra for the time. I honestly can't recommend them highly enough. They were honest, quick, personable, and their rates were totally reasonable. If you have the bad luck to have bad appliances (and really, who doesn't sometimes?) definitely give Ray's a call. read more

Ray and his son were great professionals when we were in need to see if we fix our washer or just get a new one. Ray shared with me on the phone a few tips to actually see what the problem parts might be and when his son came to actual diagnose it in person, Ray was correct. They both were honest to tell us that it would be cheaper to buy a new washing machine then to fix the one we had. They even shared that front loaders tend to be popular but have the most problems due to how the drum is suspended in the machine, so the recommendation was to buy a top loader which we did. I would go with this company over others as we called several larger companies that were more expensive just to diagnose and never spoke to us about potential issues and recommendations like Ray's did. This is a small business with honesty as their motto. This day and age that's hard to find. read more

RUDE!!!!!! Lousy attitude and poor customer service, especially by the son/repairman! The son was NASTY on the phone and told me to go somewhere else if I didn't like the way he was talking to me. This all came about because when I set up the appointment I asked that they call me 30 minutes before showing up to my house. I work and needed time to leave my job and arrive at the house to meet him. Instead, the son called when he arrived at the house. He was very ANGRY because I was not there. I called Ray, the dad, to understand why I didn't get a call 30-minute prior as agreed upon. The dad said that I should understand why his son is angry and that I should go elsewhere if I did not like his son's attitude. I did! :) read more
