We discussed the nuances of Glock Gen 5 MOS pistols as well as optics. I was extremely pleased with the service he provided. Full disclosure- In the past, over the years of visiting Ray O'Herron, I didn't care much of the attitude of some of the gun counter personnel. It's a strange thing. There's either something about working at a gun shop or with dealing with LE peeps that makes those providing the service believe they have a license to be rude or condescending (that doesn't only apply to Ray O'Herron). They had the tie in stock as of Friday late afternoon, then after I drove 45 min to the store, I was told they did not have it. It took 15 min for me to even be acknowledged. I called the store for assistance with vest straps and they were pretty helpful over the phone. They close at 4:30 and I came in around 4:10pm. DO NOT GO HERE! They give the worst service, hassle you and don't have what they should have. The service is slow and when they get to you they don have it. I get hassled every time I go here. They ask for proof of work for things that you don't need proof of work for ate any other store. I gave 1 star because that's the lowest I can give. Some of the worst customer service I've ever experienced for law enforcement equipment. After inviting their salesman to our station to sell their equipment, the salesman said we would have our order in week and a half. After three weeks I began making phone calls to the salesman who never returned my phone calls. After two months I finally tracked him down and he said he forgot to place our order. He assured me he would place the order after we got off the phone, and we would have our order in a week. After two weeks went by and no phone calls, I followed up again. I called and spoke with the store manager who said they would have the salesman call me and explain the reason for the delay. Again after five days and no phone call I called the store back and they were surprised to learn he did not return my phone call as instructed. After 2 1/2 months I learned from the store manager that the custom vest carriers the salesman came to our station to sell were no longer being made. read more

While ray Oherrons has a great selection of basically everything law enforcement that's where the good review ends. The last few times I have gone, the persons at the gun counter have a lot of attitude and make you feel like an a hole. This last week I went there to give them another try assuming it was isolated event. Was I wrong and this was my final straw. I went with $1100 in cash to buy a AR pistol. I was told on the phone that they had them in stock so I made the 45 minute commute. When I arrived the female at the gun counter argued with me for 10 minutes on how the government outlawed AR pistols and that you cannot get one anymore. I tried to explain that they have not been outlawed and that she was wrong. She then tried to sell me a 16" barrel ar rifle instead. I left went to GAT GUNs and left with a 7.5 " AR pistol in about an hour. I'm done with ray oherrons for good. Love Gat should've went there first or DS arms. I gave 1 star because of their inventory otherwise it would be zero! read more

Only reason why I'm giving them more than one star is because I've had to shop here many times before and never had an issue - until now. I ordered a vest carrier on August 22nd but was told it would arrive in 2 weeks since they were out of stock. So 2 weeks went by, I called on September 4th and was told it would arrive end of day that day. Okay, no problem. I was told I would be receiving a phone call when the vest is ready for pick up. I went on vacation the following day for a week. No calls. I called the day after I got back (Friday, September 13th) from vacation and was told the seamstress was gone for the day and my vest is still not done. I was told that the saleswoman would be requested to talk with seamstress on Saturday to see if the vest can be finished. No call on Saturday...now it's Monday. I call AGAIN to inquire about my vest. I was told it's STILL not done. I told them that I need this vest by tomorrow for training. I was asked for my name and number and they will call me back. This is getting to be a joke to deal with them. I'm not going to keep being put in the ringer. I'm a customer, they're serving me. Not the other way around. My vest has been sitting in that store for almost 2 weeks now. No reason why it's still not done. Last time I bought my vest carrier in store, the patches and embroidery were done in 20 minutes while I waited. This is unbelievable. The customer service is going downhill fast. After this, I will NEVER be shopping here again. UPDATE: Called for the second time today and was finally given more information as to why my order is taking a long time to get finished. Apparently orders are being backed up in the embroidery room and that is the reason why my order is not done. They told me that my vest will hopefully be finished by the end of day today so I can pick up tomorrow morning (just in time for training). I didn't catch her name on the phone, but thank you to the saleswoman who was able to give me more help and information than the last person who helped me. I have not been to this store since they were in Villa Park, and that was several years ago, and back then I wasn't all that impressed with their customer service. Well, they have now moved to a much larger location and I have to say that I was very impressed this time around. I came in intending to buy a new pair of boots and a new duty belt. I walked in and I was immediately greeted by a gentleman who directed me to where the items I needed were located. Another associate came over and then she began to help me find a pair of boots that best suited my needs. She didn't try to sell me what was most popular or the most expensive. She sold me on what she felt was best for me. As a former retail employee, I really appreciated that. After I made my selections, I headed up to the cashier and checked out. The whole process took me less than 15 minutes. So, in summation, great products, great selection and great customer service. If I need anything else, I will definitely be back! read more

This place does the Glock Blue Label Program which allows Police/Fire/EMT/AD Military/Active Reserve/Retired to buy 2 pistols a year with pretty good discount. Price for typical Glock is $395 which is about $130 cheaper than what you would expect from a gun store. They do have pretty extensive accessory sections from what I saw, but my business was with sweet Glock 19. Walked in, showed my retired military ID along with my IL DL and FOID, I was filling out form 4473 in no time. Everything came back clean and picked up my pistol 3 days later. Sales people were courteous and waited until I did a quick field stripping and make sure all the parts were there before signing the gun over. Overall, I couldn't ask for more. Got in and got out, total transaction time was probably less than 15 minutes. read more

The only reason to go to RO is because they have good pricing on duty - approved firearms. That and it being the authorized uniform store for a bunch of departments is all that keeps them in business. Where they fall short, way short, is customer service. If you call, they may not answer. If you want to talk to the gun counter, you'll probably have to leave a message these days and they won't call back. Go speak with them in person and they'll be very condescending. I'm an informed consumer. Waiting, sometimes without a line, to be helped by half informed salesman is the norm for gun stores these days, I guess. Much like the condescension women face with a trip to the mechanic, gun dealers can be patronizing a**holes for lack of a better word. Unlike my experience 15 years ago at Ray O'Herron, my recent visit to the beautiful new Downers Grove location was absolutely perfect. I was treated courteously & professionally by every employee in the place. The prices are very competitive. Let me begin by saying my first experience with Ray O'herron was back in 2013 before I was in the academy. At this time, it was extremely hard to get firearms and ammunition, so I called about 3 weeks before I started the academy and spoke with Jerrod, who placed a Glock 17 on hold for me under the condition that I pick it up within a month. So, I agreed, but I didn't receive the affidavit from my department to purchase the firearm until a month and a half later, so I went into the store assuming that the firearm Jerrod placed on hold for me had been sold and I'd be on my own attempting to find an approved weapon, as they had no more in stock. To my surprise, they still had the weapon he had placed on hold for me and I was all set!! From that day forward, Ray O'herron earned my business. I've since purchased a lot of gear/firearms here and have never been disappointed. Great prices for LEO/Military. The only negative is a few staff members can be a bit rude sometimes, but the majority of the staff is great. read more
