This is a review of the makeup application service while in town for a wedding…read more The ease of scheduling an appointment, rolling out of the red carpet upon arrival and general hospitality is without a doubt four stars. My makeup however, was a one out of five stars and it is safe to say I would never circle back for another run. I asked prior to scheduling if the artist had experience applying makeup to all skin tones and was assured of same. The outcome was honestly the worst. So much so that I left the salon and was driven by the Mr. to a local store to buy makeup wipes. He went in to buy the makeup removal wipes to save me the embarrassment. He also blurted out when he first saw me, "OMG, it looks hideous. What happened!?". And he also said "I told you so". After the makeup was applied, I informed the MUA that it was unflattering IMO and she assured me the lighting made it difficult for me to see properly. She even tried to lighten it a little when I explained that it was not my shade. It reminded me of the makeup application of a 50 something year old deceased female more than 15 years ago when embalming fluid darkened the skin making the makeup and face of the loved one largely unrecognizable. I was seriously pre-1990 casket ready. Hahaha. I paid the full amount ($45) plus gratuity because the MUA did her best and she was very nice. Going forward, I would not schedule service without pictures of their work. That said, I would return for a massage or nail service. The friendliness of the staff members was everything I could ask for.

tl;dr all your waxing needs!…read more Very impressed with Cora. She's quick, friendly and efficient. Very good at distracting you from the waxing process and the space is calming and nicely decorated. I had never had hard wax used before, but I like it and she works great with it! She is very on point when it comes to appointments (schedule through an app that reminds you via text/email/etc.) which is handy when you're doing it several weeks out in advance. The location (since right in downtown MKE) gets a little bit difficult when it comes to parking sometimes, but is totally manageable. Will be a return client for quite a while!

In a move toward general self-improvement, I decided to up my eyebrow game. I had been mostly going…read moreto nail salons and getting it done pretty cheap and while the results weren't necessarily bad they weren't all that consistent either. The wax-ists at the nail places tend to favor a thinner brow shape than I generally prefer for myself. I have naturally thick brows and what I'm really looking for is a cleaned-up version of my natural shape with the bushiness under control. It was thanks to Yelp that I found Cora. I liked the idea of going to an actual aesthetician since the goal was doing something a little nice for myself every 4-6 weeks. The salon space is small, really in the lower level of a building under a coffee shop. If it weren't for the sign out front I might have missed it. It's not that far from where I live so I'm not making my little ritual into a difficult errand. Cora is really nice and works with my schedule. I do a brow and lip wax and the price is really reasonable. I have gotten so many compliments on my eyebrows, including from people who either haven't seen me in years or don't normally notice eyebrows. Cora doesn't make them too thin or lop off the tail end on the left side like some of the other places were doing. I get to keep my "natural" look but look polished at the same time. I'm really glad I found this place.

I was hoping to find a local place to get my eyebrows waxed instead of going into Milwaukee, but I…read moredon't think I'll be back. I understand it's a nail salon, but the chemical smell was pretty awful and overwhelming. The girl at checkin was hard to understand, and the lady who actually did my brows didn't seem to speak much English at all. Not a single question about how I want my eyebrows done, and since I didn't think she would understand, I didn't try to explain. I thought about leaving before she could actually start the process... I like my brows to be clean but natural, and I did end up with a much thinner result than I prefer, I'm sure simply because there was no communication.

This was my second time at Honey Nail Spa. The first time was their opening weekend and it was…read morewonderful and I felt relaxed and pampered. Today I felt rushed and stressed. I scheduled a pedicure and from the start she was short with me and felt rushed. I was ushered to the chair and no question about temp of the water, length of the nails, if I wanted something to drink, etc. The trimming felt a bit rough and I flinched a few times. The massages also were quick and no checks for my comfort. She painted my nails and as I had regular polish instead of gel, I was sitting for a few minutes to let it dry and she literally put my purse on her shoulder and ushered me to the front desk to pay. I had to wait several minutes while she stood nearby before I could pay anyway so I'm unsure what the rush was. No spray to dry my nails quicker either. Neither she nor the person at the front who took payment asked how the service was, I felt like people getting manicures seemed to be treated much more positively than me. I then left and got home and immediately two of my nails got ruined so I had to repaint them anyway. Overall, I'm disappointed and not sure if I will go back as I'm someone who goes when I want to treat myself and this was not relaxing at all. The spa is clean though...

I gave Da-Vi Nails two tries--once out of curiosity, the second time out of desperation--and…read moreregretted both. The first visit was frustrating: I had to repeatedly ask for my nails to be cut shorter, only to be told they "couldn't." My nails were roughed up so badly they're still damaged months later. The water for the pedicure was lukewarm, not relaxing, and I was told the whole service would take 45 minutes--it dragged on for over two hours. Cleanliness was questionable. I watched them rinse a bowl with water and reuse it--no soap, no sanitation. No gloves were worn, and the station had visible food crumbs. No work was done on calluses, and the polish was so poorly applied it had to be redone--still looked bad. It lifted within a day, both times. On my second (and final) visit, the process was quicker but no more professional. Again, I had to push for shorter nails. They didn't use cuticle cream or lotion--just started digging in with metal tools. My feet still looked dry afterward. The smell in the salon was awful--think stale cigarettes and old cheese. Overall, both visits were disappointing. Sloppy polish, lack of hygiene, and an unprofessional atmosphere. Definitely not worth the time or money.
