WHAL offers great classes for youth and adults, for beginners and experts. There are also lots of awesome showcases of locals' work - including some of my own photos once or twice - of different media. They always have a nice opening reception - often with free food and drink - which is a really nice touch and a way to meet others. Separately, I have also come here for a few mostly food events, like the CT Eats Out supper club inaugural event. I really enjoyed getting the chance to view some local art by some really talented folks! Now that this location is on my radar, I am going to be checking in so see what other events they host. I heard that they also have done photography showings in the past. The venue itself is a tad tough to find just going by google maps, but once you realize where it is, parking is super easy. It's small but cozy, well laid-out, and adorable. I found the atmosphere for the event dinner to be extremely charming, and the staff were amazing. I'll be back, WeHa Art League. The range of products, difficult to find…read moreparts for period fixtures and a wide range of shades make this full service center the best place to go for excellent prices and great selection. Frank goes above and beyond with customer service. He performed a complimentary safety check on every fixture he worked on. He recently came in at 7:00 am to repair a group of fixtures on a holiday weekend and this was without asking for special service. They even cleaned and waxed the fixtures as a special consideration. Their level of workmanship, commitment to customer satisfaction, in addition to selection and price makes shopping at Restoration and CT Lighting Centers an unbeatable experience!

As one of my favorite organizations in the city, I'm always impressed by the range of programs and activities they put on every day of the week. I'm not sure if they still do this (I participated several years ago) but Food Not Bombs used to utilize their kitchen space to cook/prepare food for the hungry on weekend days. Needless to say, this truly is an admirable community space. Between Indie Fest (supa talented local bands!) and the newest Bots Pots initiative (fresh food for folks in need - all around the city!), this is one non profit that wears many hats and supports oh so many causes.

The museum is on St. Joseph's campus, and there is a handy map by the parking lot if the black banners pointing to the Art Gallery allude you, as they did me. It's a lovely campus, very austere buildings but was really quiet. They seem to use Gallery and Museum interchangeably. There are signs directing you to both and perhaps I have made a classic "whoops", but I didn't see anything about a gallery once I entered the (impressive) foyer of the building. I did see a sign for the art museum to my right though. The museum is about five rooms and must rotate their collection periodically, as well as having a main exhibit in the front room. There are benches to rest or be entranced by art in two or three of the rooms. They had some lovely pieces, although I do wish they had more background on some of their signs.

Greater Hartford Arts Council is a treasure when it comes to promoting and supporting the arts and cultural development initiatives within the region. The council supports dance, visual arts, theater, music, public art projects and organizes the city's annual Taste of Hartford (which I'm all about!). They also have a pretty rockin' events calendar and offer a Let's Go Arts card (I think it's $50) for member discounts. Put it this way- their 7 Day Arts & Entertainment Forecast has saved me from a boring existence. Scope out their website & go get cultured!
