I've brought our foster child into the office several times now. The attention and care that our little guy has received on each visit is simply astounding. If you've interacted with the foster care system, you know how challenging it can--how frustrating the ups and downs are. But, every time we come to Ravenswood Pediatrics, we are reminded that there are people who DO care about our little guy! Thank you to the staff for all you do. Honestly, you are making a difference!!! 10 Stars. read more

Very wonderful practice! My daughter receives top notch care and is loved by the staff! Marisol is her bestie!

Everything people say is true. It's weird that Dr. Ochs makes strange jokes about whether or not you experienced sexual advances high school or that your baby girl is flirting with him - totally totally weird. It will make you feel weird to breastfeed because you're going to think he's into it. He is a self proclaimed "old country doctor" so he's not pushy about vaccinations, but with this, you will talk with him for much longer about things that have nothing to do with the reason you're there than you'll ever expect and you'll feel strange trying to end the conversation because you want to be sure you get all the answers you need so you'll have to guide the conversation back to the reason you're there over and over again. And you'll wait so so long, even if you have an appointment, to finally see him or nurse Margaret because they're so behind schedule because he's currently talking to someone else about whatever strange things he wants to talk to you about, definitely a few things that will make you uncomfortable and question why you're still taking your child here. And when you leave, you'll feel like you just left the twilight zone and hopefully you'll be able to laugh about it with your moms group. In the end, he's a couple blocks from you house, he has open hours every morning in the case something comes up, and he's relaxed about letting you make your own decisions about the health of your family, which really just saves you the whole guilt trip you get elsewhere. So, if you're up to it, take a chance on this very strange place. read more

Getting an appointment for your little one with Dr. Ochs might necessitate a bit of waiting, but it's totally worth it. He's one of the most well-regarded pediatricians in Chicago, and there's a reason for that. I originally started bringing my son to Dr. Ochs when I was unhappy with my original choice of pediatrician. My son was having problems gaining weight, and the pediatrician was pushing me to stop nursing even though my milk supply was fine. Dr. Ochs observed my nursing and came to the conclusion that my baby's appetite was poor and that my milk supply had nothing to do with the problem, and that switching to formula might have caused more problems than it solved. After testing for GERD and other GI problems, we ended up settling on an appetite stimulant drug that worked. Now my son is gaining weight very well (and at 16 months, he's just weaning now, when it feels natural to him and me). In an era when Doctors are encouraged to spend as little time with their patients as possible, Dr. Ochs makes the best effort to give every patient individual attention. I never have to worry that he won't have read the chart or won't know what my concerns are when I come in. He knows all about my son and has tracked his progress very closely all along. I feel comfortable and safe going to him, knowing that my son is in good hands. I can't recommend him enough. read more

Dr. Ochs has been my family pediatrician for over 20 years and he is THE BEST with kids. He puts parents at ease when kids are sick and makes the kids at ease with his goofy talking fish and other props in the room. We've never had to wait too long for him and he has always been straightforward and kind. He has a friendly and casual demeanor that is a great fit for me and my family. I recommend him 100%. read more

We went to Dr O on a recommendation and have been super pleased. Although he is quite a character, it something that is endearing, as his care and concern are clear. It is also clear that he is exceptional at what he does and his love for his job is ever present. He is an open person as well as a caring and competent Dr. I too felt a tad uncomfortable, my first visit, with his openness, but now that I know him a bit better, I wouldn't have it any other way. It let's me know that he hears my concerns- Unlike some other Dr's we have seen with my son, Dr. Ochs addresses them, and let's me know (maybe a little too often) that it's okay to worry, that it's a natural part of being a new mom. He sugar coats nothing, but in the sweetest way, if that makes any sense. He is a top shelf doc. end of. read more

My son was under his care for 3 years,we love Dr. Ochs, unfortunately, we cant say the same about his staff. The staff working in the front was rude and unaccommodating!!Well, with this kind of behavior you will really lose patients.Better go down and set an appointment with Advocate Childrens Clinic on the 4th floor in the same building. They have nicer staff & accommodating read more

Dr. Ochs is just one of a kind - in a good way! He is not pushy with vaccines, he tells you his opinion but he also respects yours. I called him one night because my son was running a really high fever, and the next day he called to see how he's feeling. This really impressed me! He is a really kind and cheerful person. Oh, and you never feel rushed when you see him. Never! He takes his time, sometimes a little bit too much :), but I would rather have this than feel like he wants me out of the office ASAP (my previous doctor was like that). His nurse practitioner, Margaret, is also great - caring, knowledgeable and sweet with kids. I'm very glad I found this practice! read more

We chose him specifically because he is supposed to specialize in adoption. If you choose him for this reason, BEWARE. You should know that: his own research agenda (which he told me quite a bit about) is proving that a higher percentage of adoptees and foster children have fetal alcohol syndrome than people currently think. What this means for you: That he will uniformly tell you that your child has Fetal Alcohol Syndrome (we have since had a team of Early Intervention therapists as well as a second doctor examine our son, and no one found the tiniest bit of evidence in that direction). He also has no trouble making disparaging remarks about your children's birthparents -- saying that they're "obviously not that smart if they got into this position", etc. This is not only disrespectful, but highly inappropriate. There are clearly better pediatricians out there. I highly recommend that you find one of them. read more

Dr. Ochs was highly recommended, so I selected him as my daughter's pediatrician. While he has a pragmatic approach to his patients, his behavior made me very uncomfortable. He speaks to me about my sex life EVERY time I bring my daughter in (she is an infant so we are there often for her wellness visits). He also makes references to my daughter growing up and dating and boys trying to have sex with her. Highly inappropriate and certainly dangerous indications of potentially pedophilia behavior. I left and would highly recommend that people avoid him. read more

In this day and age it is vitally important to choose a pediatrician who loves what he does. Dr. Ochs agreed to see me even though my son was not a patient of his as a walk in on a busy day! It turns out that my son had a defect that needed to be surgically corrected! I am so thankful to this doctor for recognizing the issue and taking the necessary steps to route us to a specialist who then routed us to a surgeon who performed the operation on my son. I have since scheduled an appointment with him so that all four of my children can be seen by him. read more

My oldest daughter was a patient of Dr. Ochs from when she was born until shortly after her first birthday. Like other reviewers said, I was often uncomfortable at the sexual nature of jokes he made regarding my newborn. (I can't remember any specific examples, but they were there). I also had a difficult time getting in to see him, so it seemed that well visits needed to be scheduled months in advance and sick visits were with any of the doctors in the practice. I also never heard Dr. Ochs call my daughter by her name (or say her name to me). During all of her well baby visits over the first year, he never brought up where her milestones should be. His medical assistant yelled at me one day when my daughter was getting her vaccinations because she asked me to sign a form for All-Kids "so her vaccinations will be covered". Except, we had Blue Cross PPO and didn't use All-Kids. When I told her this, she told me that I had to sign it anyway. The last straw for me was when my 14 month old daughter woke up with a runny nose and a fever one day so I called the office to make an appointment. They told me that since it was still walk-in hours, I should just come in right away, rather than making an appointment. We were at the office within fifteen minutes of when I called. We then proceeded to spend over TWO HOURS waiting for our "walk-in appointment". When I mentioned this to the receptionist after an hour of waiting, she told me that since we came in at the end of walk-in hours we had to wait until the doctors could fit us in between other appointments. Which was the whole reason I called to make an appointment in the first place. My daughter had a double ear infection and was miserable. On our way out the door that day, I filled out the form requesting a copy of her medical records and we haven't been back since. read more

Our family absolutely adores Dr. Ochs. We feel like we hit the jackpot when we ended up with such a caring and knowledgeable pediatrician. We have been with him for 10 years, as our children are now 10 and 4. He is funny, patient, kind, knows what he is doing, and also takes the time to learn about his families. It truly feels like a partnership with Dr. Ochs. We love that he is not an alarmist, which is very soothing to parents (especially first time parents!) I highly recommend. read more

Dr, Ochs has been our daughter's pediatrician for 15 years and we have always been more than pleased with his services. In addition to being a great doctor, his examination rooms have always been filled with the kind of toys and distractions that made visiting the doctor a fun and positive experience for kids. read more

Dr.Ochs is the best! He's been my son's pediatrician since he was a newborn. I liked the fact he was willing to work with me on an alternate vaccine schedule. I wasn't comfortable with the number of vaccines given at one time, so he let me know which ones were a must and which ones we could space out a bit. He's great with my son too, makes him feel at ease. He also makes the parents feel comfortable esp when their little ones are sick. If your child is sick, they will fit you in so they can be seen the same day which is great! read more

Dr. Ochs is one of the best pediatricians in Chicago, hands down. The medical care we received from him was first rate, and the personal attention we received was equally excellent. We left Chicago two years ago, but we still call Dr. Ochs when we have a medical question, and he is still happy to help us. It's true that the practice can be a pain, however. The other doctors are not as good as Dr. Ochs, and the administrators are a pain, but it's worth it to have him as a doctor for your child. read more

What a great place ! Dr Ochs is so sweet and gentle with our little baby. He genuinely cares about his patients. We thought we wouldn't find a better pediatrician than our baby's doc who is in Los Angeles, but now that we moved to Chicago, we're so happy of finding Dr. Todd Ochs. read more

Worst experience I ever had! I had a 1 pound born baby with different problems and dr Ochs never did any test on him nor sent him to any specialist. One day my son was so sick with breathing problems and I left several messages but never got a call back from dr. Ochs. I can't take any risk, I had to change pediatrician. If you have a very sick child, don't waste your time going there. As soon as I got a new dr. I felt the positive change. read more

A few years ago, my Ob/Gyn doctor recommended Dr. Ochs, so we went with him when our first son was born. Dr. Ochs was great - he was the only doctor who visited us frequently in the hospital before we were discharged, and the next evening he called me at home, to see if everything was okay with us, being new parents and all. He was a lifesaver. In the office, he behaves as if he has all the time in the world for you, he is very thorough, great with the kids, and is overall, very good at what he does. Healthcare professionals in other facilities all seem to know him and speak highly of him, too. The only problem, and it's a significant one, is the clinic where he works. They have screwed up our billing so many times, the staff is rude and often condescending, the medical assistants sometimes seem dumb as rocks, and getting in for an appointment may take all the patience you and your children have. For that reason, I don't recommend him to my friends. However, as an individual doctor, we adore him, and we will continue to put up with all the obstacles his clinic makes us face. read more

My daughter has been a patient of Dr. Ochs for 8 years. We consulted with him before we adopted her from China. Dr. Ochs is a great doctor who knows his stuff. However we have been very unhappy with his old practice. Too often we were forced to see other doctors because Dr. Ochs was so busy. I am thrilled that he has set up his own practice. Just made our first appointment with him at the new place. read more

Dr.Ochs has been our pediatrician for 6.5 years, and before that my brother in-law's pediatrician. He has a rapport with kids that is unbelievable. When I was concerned about a cough he tickled my son to check breathing- how cool is that! He "finds" creatures in their ears, and talks with them. When our son was born he stopped gaining weight. it was determined that was because he has congenital growth delay, and is a late bloomer. But before that we had to go to appointments and specialists. He was supportive through out and when we said that nothing was helping, he supported that decision- but still suggested the appropriate further tests as the time came. I am confident that if the decision we made was wrong he would have said so- and still referred us to specialists- but since nothing was helping, and he was growing at his own pace he let us stop the specialists. Most importantly he NEVER even hinted that we should stop breast feeding and when I brought it up, he asked about milk production and after that said there was no reason at all to do that. I have friends whose pediatricians pushed for weening for no particular reason. When we thought about becoming foster parents, we talked to him about that as well- and he was supportive through that decision as well. When he started his own practice we were thrilled that he wasn't retiring but starting his own office, and I will be sending my son to him as long as possible. I have always said we have one of the best pediatricians in the city, and are so happy that we do. read more

The staff (front desk and nurses) are unbelievably rude and unprofessional. The office is dirty. I was referred to Dr. Ochs by a friend and know several people who bring their children to Dr. Ochs so I wanted to be sure to give it a chance. I don't even know where to begin. The front desk staff is rude and unprofessional. I used to work the front desk of a pediatricians office and I realize it's not easy, but it is truly an unpleasant experience trying to deal with them. The staff is always arguing with one another. Last time we were there I overheard our nurse arguing with another nurse because she didn't think she should have had to give my son his shot, and was upset about the other nurse being "too lazy". One time I took my son at 7:45 (sick walk-in's begin at 8) and we were the second patient on the list yet we didn't see the doctor til 8:50, I was livid! I understand that things happen especially with traffic in the morning but to not even get an apology or acknowledgement as to how long we were made to wait made me furious. Who waits an hour when they are the 2nd patient of the day?!! Again having worked at a pediatricians office and being a nurse myself, I understand how backed up doctors get, but I wait on average about 40 min. every time I go. Numerous times I've scheduled well visits only to find out that the office staff didn't schedule the appropriate amount of time, however somehow the nurses feel the need to take out their frustration on me. This office is filthy. I dread bringing my son for well visits for fear he will get sick after being there, which has happened numerous times. I'm sure most parents worry about this at any doctors office, but at least at most places they clean and sanitize 2x a day. There is dust lining the shelves in the exam rooms etc..It is obvious that this place is not cleaned regularly. Dr. Och's is a nice man but I'm changing doctors. He skirts around answering my questions and I like direct answers to the information I need. Overall my experience here has been so disappointing. read more

He is a recognized local authority on adopted, primarily Asian children. We have taken our adopted children to him and have been satisfied with the care he has provided them. However, the medical practice he is part of is incredibly inefficient. One can waste half a day waiting to see him, even when having a scheduled appointment. We have given up trying to see him on routine medical matters, opting to go with Walgreen's clinics. What the clinic needs is a two tier system -- paying patients get in first, and all the charity care that they provide to immigrants can come at the end of the day. Sorry to say, care should be rationed to folks who are not paying for the services they are seeking. Afterall, we DO need to get back to our jobs to earn a living to PAY for Dr. Ochs services. Enough with the charity care. Remember -- no margin, no mission. read more

Bottom line: he's a great doctor with a quirky bedside manner. Whenever I've had a concern about my son, he's always taken it very seriously and answered all of my questions. The unfortunate flipside is that sometimes you may have to wait a long time after your appointment time if he is in with another patient addressing their concerns. He sat with us for an hour and a half when my husband I first brought my son to him. He also really puts a new mother at ease about her abilities. He also explains things very well. My son thinks he and his mustache are hilarious. My son actually gets upset when we pass his office without going in. He does have a rather quirky personality and makes a lot of poor jokes, but nothing that ever really bothered me. read more

All around, I really disliked this practice. The place waiting area is crowded, dingy and always looks dirty. You will always wait about an hour to even get into the doctor's office where you will wait about 30 minutes more. I chose Dr. Och's because he was decently reviewed, he was in my HMO plans and the options were few, and the practice was not that far away. As for Dr. Och's himself, I think to put it diplomatically, he's a nice enough person with an affable demeanor, great interaction with kids (you can tell he really cares about kids), but I honestly can't speak to how knowledgeable he may be. Let me explain, it seems like he's used to dealing with many "low information," low education parents because he does not really explain much. I felt this lack of info to be a bit condescending. He also never brought up current research which our current ped does all the time (Dr. Paul Martin with NW - AMAZING). On a final note, as to the way the office is run, when I changed peds once I switched to a PPO (thank you JESUS), after faxing this practice 3 signed releases, my current ped still had not received my son's immunization records. I had to call and send my husband in to physically get them since he starts pre-k on Tuesday. Thus, my review is honestly more directed at the crappy administration and staff rather than at Dr. Och's. read more

Dr Ochs is AMAZING and is a perfect Pediatrician who has a great cheerful personality and any kid would love him instantly. I would give 5 stars if I've to rate just Dr Ochs alone. The 3 stars is because of his nurse who doesn't know ANYTHING and who needs to be fired ASAP if Dr Ochs doesn't want his ratings to get affected. I was never given a health questionnaire to fill out despite asking for it. No information on allergies, social status etc was asked nor did I fill any. I was only asked for insurance information and was given insurance related papers. But at the end of the visit, I got a summary from the nurse that my son grows up in a healthy family with his parents, his dad very involved in his life, no social or financial issues, no previous medical or surgical problems in the past etc... This is all a printed out summary with my son's name and personal info which was given to me... But the truth is, I'm a single mother and my parents helped me raise my son out of USA while I was in school here in U.S. He just recently came back to live with me and actually grew up elsewhere which made him require a TB skin test and wasn't given to him until I asked for it, his father totally uninvolved in his upbringing, he has both medical and surgical history in the past and he needed some shots. She never checked his BP and just wrote a made up number on it. The entire summary was made up. I'm glad I've PPO and can go to any doctor. As much as I really liked Dr Ochs, I've second thoughts to go to a doctor whose staff makes up stuff... read more

Great doctor, really cares and assisted with issues while out of the country. That being said, I was appalled at how lacks and unaware his staff is, they don't read charts correctly and therefore do not have results prior to the visit. Also, they were rarely aware of what the results were when contacted for the results. By the way you have to call them, they don't call you. If you are not aware and on top of them you basically waste your visit which you most like waited an hour for...... I truly love this ped, I only wish he would re-org his practice. read more

Dr Ochs came highly recommended by our adoption agency. He did the initial exam on our son from Haiti. We really liked him but his office is not very friendly or proficient. We were going to have his blood draw (10 vials) for his adoption panels done at the clinic. The Tech was terrible and after 2 unsuccessful draws and a screaming 2 yr old we asked her to stop trying and went somewhere else. She seemed relieved. When we called back one of the nurses was irate that we didn't report the Tech. We have tried 3 times unsuccessfully for our records to be transferred to our local pediatrician. Liked Dr Ochs but not his staff...just try getting them to even answer the phone. read more

I have read the negative reviews about Dr. Ochs and I cannot believe they are talking about the same person I have known for 16 years. Dr. Ochs is an excellent pediatrician. He has seen my son since he was a baby. He is wonderful with children and takes all of the fear out of doctor visits. He is definitely a character, but that just makes it more fun for the kids. I have never witnessed Dr. Ochs being inappropriate in any way. He is honest, forthright and generous with his time. I would recommend him highly to anyone looking for a pediatrician. read more

I am 27 and Dr. Ochs was my pediatrician when I was a child until I was too old. When I had my own children, there was no one else I would've chose to be their pediatrician. I'm not excited to write this review but I feel as though I owe it to other potential patients - especially young mothers who may be visiting Dr. Ochs without another adult in the room. Dr. Ochs has without fail said something inappropriate to me every single time I have visited him. His comments are either in regard to me (my body, breast size, sex life with my husband, my history of sex/or him surmising about my promiscuity in adolescence) or my infant daugher (her potential for promiscuity in high school, how far she spreads her legs during a diaper check, whether or not she "contracted" her diaper rash from her infant boyfriend, or could enter a wet t-shirt contest because of her excessive drooling due to teething.) He has gone as far as to prescribe rectal suppositories and then to comment "let's hope she doesn't like them too much and end up in the adult film industry." During a recent visit, he discussed his own sexual history during his early 20's, living in New Orleans and sleeping with young single mothers who were strippers, calling himself an "appendage on legs". For the past year I have struggled with feeling uncomfortable and trapped at every appt. and unsure of how I could leave his practice with my tricky insurance situation. I had been thinking, if the disgusting comments are directed at me, I can handle it, I've heard worse. But I've had it with comments about my baby and will be leaving his practice. He is most definitely sex-obsessed and it is frightening to observe the ease and frequency to which he applies his "humor" regarding sexuality to babies. As a doctor, he never ONCE said my daughter's name to her or me (I'm convinced he didn't what it was) and not once asked me any questions about her milestones. He answered questions briefly but became easily side-tracked due to his tangential thought process. This was my experience but consider yourself warned. read more

I was seeing Dr. Ochs for most of my life, up unitl I was 14 or 15. (I'm 20 now) I hit puberty when I was 8 yeas old, and although I had breasts, they weren't fully grown. When I was 13 I gained about 40 pounds in 3 months after being on a certain type of antidepressants, and I went from nothing to a C cup. One day when I was in for a checkup, Dr Ochs said "oh you've got your mother's breasts". I was uncomfortable and also confused (especially since my mother's breasts are plastic) and I'm not sure if my mother even heard or didn't think anything of it. He was always making comments to how I'm going to be tempted to be "very sexual" once I started highschool. When I was 15, and lost my virginity and once my mother found out she wanted to get me tested. Once I was in his office, (with my mother in the room) he gave me a lecture that I was being promiscuous, and once again was making me feel uncomfortable. I stopped seeing him after that and went to a female doctor. I don't remember him being inappropriate when I was a baby, but it scares me that he could have made inappropriate comments like the ones I've read. read more
