I got the basic PBJ on a sesame seed bagel w/ crunchy peanut butter that I don't like but he never asked smooth or crunchy. I guess it's how it comes but it was tasty & hit the spot. The place is clean but I didn't realize the guys don't always wear gloves so that's a bit unsanitary bc they could have a rash or cut on their finger that may bleed into the food or cross contamination. Staff are friendly and you can see them working hard behind the counter making the bagels fresh! A thing that I appreciate is that the bacon is properly crispy here as it should be. The hostess tucked us away in a corner on the back deck where we could enjoy the sunshine but none of the wind. There was even a blanket on the chair to keep us warm. The server was quick, friendly and efficient - we were fully impressed by her attention to detail and the easiness in which she dominated her tasks. She even brought George a bowl of water to enjoy. We ordered the Eggs Benedict with bacon and pumpkin minus the break and the server didn't bat an eye at the slight change. My husband ordered The Grill and added the Rosti. The food was out quicker than we could order and it was fabulous. The hollandaise had the perfect flavor and the pumpkin was cooked to perfect (not mushy but soft). Our waters stayed full the entire meal and we were never left to want. I was floored by the impressive service, the quick delivery of the food and the delicious flavors of our meals. Takapuna Cafe is now on our list of top five restaurants in Auckland. As summer nears I can't wait to spend more time on the North Shore enjoying other items on their menu with my husband and our best friend.

Not because they weren't delicious, because they were so yummy, but they were also so buttery that I couldn't get the cream cheese to stick and everything I tried to put on the crumpet just slid right off them. The bagel was pretty good - I got some kind of riff on a normal offering in order to get melted cheese and avocado together with some chili flakes. It's not a giant NY style bagel (still haven't found a proper NY bagel here, I know I know) but it'll satisfy in the meantime. They were happy to mix and match their offerings, and their bagel/coffee special is the best deal in town (you get your coffee for $2 - whatever kind you want!) Only problem, you guessed it, the guys got chatting and my coffee was waylaid until I reminded them. Great coffee once I got it though!
