Sisters is a town filled with galleries, boutiques and antiques, but this place is better than most…read moreof its neighbors. They specialize in hand carved furniture (bed frames, dressers, rocking chairs, etc.) in pine and juniper. The item that keeps bringing me back are the juniper lamps. It is a gorgeous naturally twisting wood with several textures and no two are the same. This always reminds me of someone describing how they carve a statue -- you just remove the extraneous material to reveal the true structure beneath. They also have a lot of whimsical items - birdhouses made out of boots, painted saws and wood hammers with funny sayings. ------------- Update: They moved across the street to 121 W. Mind you, he does very well financially and could have bought anything he wanted in that store. But he's a humble tradesman and still wears his Carhartt's everywhere. I guess he doesn't fit in with the typical REI crowd in Sisters anymore, talk about profiling. It's a shame we are now treated this way, I remember this town being a low-key country town. I waited some time before approaching the saleswoman, as I didn't want to interrupt what I assumed was a transaction. But I noticed there were no shoes out, and the three were simply chatting. That's when I realized they were friends, not customers. When I expressed interest in trying on shoes, the saleswoman seemed reluctant but retrieved a pair and left them on the counter. When I brought up a second pair, she went to the back again. It was during this time--while trying on shoes and waiting--that I noticed the tone of the radio, which surprised me. I clearly recall the man smiling and saying, "We enjoy it," when I reacted. The saleswoman's back was to me throughout. Her reaction as I describe it is true to my memory. 2. About my reviewing style: I'm not someone who writes critical reviews lightly. In fact, you can check my profile--until this experience, I had only ever written 5-star reviews. I genuinely enjoy supporting local businesses and was simply looking for a pleasant afternoon and a new pair of shoes. 3. Why I'm responding: This will be my final word on the matter. I didn't expect this kind of response to my review, but that's okay. They had some nice dishwater and I bought a couple small plates. They have jewelry in several different locations, and lots of other sorts of merchandise. One could certainly find something(s) for themselves here, or some nice gifts. I considered buying a serving bowl for my sister but wasn't sure if she'd use it, and I know my nephew and mom considered buying her some sort of garden item. Staff was friendly and not overbearing. There's a little area where you can buy drinks and maybe some small bites, and they have a nice deck out front to sit and relax. I enjoyed wandering the store and picking up a few things and would recommend them for a stop if you're nearby.
