This store is way bigger on the inside than it looks on the outside. There are two floors of knickknacks and thingamajigs and souvenirs and items that you didn't know you wanted or needed. This is the place to visit in Frankenmuth if you're looking for an unusual gift or something to take home to remember your trip to this Bavarian town. Rau's has pretty much every souvenir with every name on shot glasses, pocket knives, keychains and the like. If you have a typical name, you will find a magnet with your name at Rau's. This shop also has a lot of old-fashioned candy, which you can scoop out and put into bags. You'll also find some local artwork for sale here, as well as lots of local Michigan products. read more

I come here for the bulk candy and some other fun things, like bugs in a sucker? Pickle flavored suckers? They always have something that's good for a gift or just a laugh. Prices are great. I bring taffy home for my whole family. read more

Cool store with a lot of different things. Lots of snacks like candy, salsas, and teas. Some cool collectibles to give as gifts like steins, wall art, table cloths, and candles. I give them 5 stars as I'm biased towards their selection of Metropolitan Tea Company teas. A friend brought me some from a trip and this is the first time I've seen them in a store. Worth a stop in if you've never had this tea, but is worth a stop in to poke around even if you're not a tea person. read more

This place was really hopping on a holiday weekend! There's a little something for everyone here: old-fashioned candy, Frankenmuth-themed items, lots of MI sports/team items, Harley Davidson paraphernalia, and other retro decor like signs and magnets. Foods range from popcorn to hot cocoa, with a variety of Amish-produced products. They even had a penny-smashing machine! They bill themselves as Michigan's Must Unusual Country Store. It was interesting. And it was unusual. It had great variety - good candy selection, some home goods (table coverings, some furntire, knick knacks etc.) and a great selection of painted metal signage. Wasn't really our style of store - but I could see people enjoying it. Would I recommend - yeah, I think so. Woudl I return - Yeah, I'd take a walk thru again. read more

We look forward to dropping in to this super fun store whenever we're visiting the Bavarian Inn. There's a wide variety of collectibles and candy - some that you've even forgotten about! I especially love the many flavors of taffy, specifically the Taffy Town brand which is one of the best around; however, on our last visit, much of what they are now carrying is Zeno's - far inferior, seriously! Be mindful of that if you like Taffy Town, or you'll be disappointed that you threw 2 lbs of taffy in the trash like me! read more

Great place but super rude employees! Tanya was so rude to my kids and to me. I was setting the candy and the counter and she snapped at me and my son yelling KEEP IT IN THE BASKET I CANT DO MY JOB IF YOUR PUTTING STUFF ON THE COUNTER. Pretty cool surprisingly large store that sells just about every thing you could think of... Some of my favorite finds: A selection of vintage bags and posters of the good ol' days women of the household, with phrases such as "It's okay... I didn't want to enjoy my life any way." or "Say it with carbohydrates!", a Juicy Couture scented candle, a huge selection of colorful mini tea pots, and gourmet out of the barrel pickles. If you're in the area being a tourist for the day, Rau's is the perfect spot to find that special something you're looking for. read more

Cool place to spend a couple minutes and maybe pick up some touristy gifts for back home. I liked their sign collection especially and all the old style candies. Not really the best place to bring a stroller into but that's pretty much true throughout all of Frankenmuth's shops. I'd both recommend and stop by again next year. read more

Love this store and other reviewers have failed to mention their awesome dollhouse shop downstairs! I got my daughter a dollhouse kit for Christmas (it only took me a 2 months to build it). Their staff was incredibly fun and helpful assisting me in finding what I needed and answering all my questions. I also have to heap praise on their penny candy selection and their amazing barrel of pickles! They have a pretty large assortment of cookie cutters and table linens. It's a great place to find unique gifts! read more

Rau's Country Store - Mother Daughter fun! - Department Stores Near Me - Frankenmuth, Michigan

Man I used to love this place. In fact it was a 5-star shoe-in until they stopped selling the die cast metal airplanes! Anyhow, this is a fun place to stop for all kinds of different stuff. My favorite part is the assortment of taffy they have (chicken & waffle flavor? Yes please!). It tends to get crowded but there is so much stuff you could easily get lost. Don't forget to check the other floors for stuff. read more

This is just one of the places you need to stop at when you're in Frankenmuth. It's just down from Zehenders, and have a lot of stuff to walk thru and see. The inside is absolutely nothing like I expected from walking up to it. Actually, the only reason I stopped in is because I was looking for something like a convenience store, but found much, much more here! When you first walk in, you're greeting with barrels of candy everywhere and tons of knick knacks, it's great! There are probably 20 different rooms and a few different levels. There's definitely something for everyone in here. I think I ended up spending closer to an hour just looking at everything and picking out a few things to get that I didn't know I needed ;) It can get crowded and there are lots of fragile and small items so definitely watch little ones if you have them with you. read more

I've been going to Rau's since I was a kid. I love that it has creaky floors, candy from my childhood, trinkets, and cool tin signs among many other things. My wife and i went in the store with our 4 year old and the employees were unattentive, and rude. We had wanted to purchacs well over $400.00 worth of products. But when our four year old started jumping around crying he needs to pee, they said"We dont let the public in our bathrooms. You have to take your child out of our store, he is being too loud and annoying our customers. There is a public bathroom across main street. Take him there. And please dont bring him back in our store. He actions here are disrespectful and we dont tolerate actions like this in our store." The fucking kid just had to pee. And he was being an angel before he had to pee. Poor kid could barely hold it. read more
