There are guided tours in German and English language. Note that the English guided tours are not as often as the German guided tours. Our guide was knowledgeable and entertaining. He made the guided tour enjoyable. It was nice learning the history and seeing various rooms of the Hamburg Townhall. Overall, I recommend visiting this landmark and doing the guided tour.

Government still operates from here. I did not have time for a proper tour of the building, but the next time I am in Hamburg, I absolutely will do so. A very long shopping street with a train station and town hall square (Rathausmarkt). There are…read moreshops such as Adidas, Lego, Stieff, Zara, H&M, Esprit etc. The only thing this street I feel lacks in restaurants apart from if you want a Macdonalds or a café as they had plenty of those. During Christmas they have a Christmas parade at certain times which consist of three parade vehicles. I loved the dancers that were dressed as gingerbread men. Even though small and short was worth going along to watch. Also not part of the parade but if you are lucky there is a huge biker gang consisting of approx. 30 bikers that go around riding in santa clothes waving at people and bibbing their horns. Please note thought shops are NOT open on Sunday.

Lüneburg is known to have the highest density of pubs in Germany and the seceond largest in Europe (Barcelona is placed first). Also the silver treasure, the Lüneburg Ratssilber Schatz, is the largest still existing treasure of a German city. A copy may be admired in the town hall, the original is exhibited in Museum of decorative arts, Berlin (Potsamer Platz branch). The building models don't have much detail (general building shape is rather accurate) but there are some nicely detailed pieces around Landungsbrücken/Harbor. I even found my house! Worth a visit if you're in the area. It doesn't cost a thing and is quite an eyeful.

So one day excursion might also include the city of stade and trips to the "alte Land" region , Jork, Finkenwerder etc. In Germany Buxdehude is well know from the fairy tale of Hare and Hedehoge (named Hase und Igel in german), which is located in this city. At least refering to the Brothers Grimm documentation. The tale is omnipresent in the city - you may not escape ;-) Like Stade, a small channel is still reaching into the center, in this case it's part of the Este river. Historicly goods have been shipped from here directly on the northern european water ways. In Summer, the city and Region is perfect for a bike tour. In Winter I would recoment the X-Mass Market instead!
