During Christmas they have a Christmas parade at certain times which consist of three parade vehicles. I loved the dancers that were dressed as gingerbread men. Even though small and short was worth going along to watch. Also not part of the parade but if you are lucky there is a huge biker gang consisting of approx. 30 bikers that go around riding in santa clothes waving at people and bibbing their horns. Please note thought shops are NOT open on Sunday.

I don't really know how else to describe it. The cool part is that it hasn't lost its historical charm. The old shipping cranes and red brick warehouses along with the amazing waterfront promenade and contemporary architecture are all keeping Hamburg's Hanseatic port district alive & well. It was a very memorable experience as a tourist visiting this part of Germany for the first time. It's an attractive and walkable district. The infrastructure seems to have been designed with urbanites and tourists in mind. The cruise center is located within a Westfield Shopping center so there's lots of retail shopping as well as a grocery store within steps from the ship. It's all part of a grand shopping development known as Überseequartier. There are public transportation options to other parts of Hamburg including a U-Bahn station and a ferry terminal. I'm sure it's a great place to live for those who work in downtown Hamburg. I can only imagine how high the rent must be in this area because of the waterfront views. However, it appears to be very popular despite that. It was a great overnight port of call with many attractions and restaurants within walking distance of the terminal. The view of it from the Elbe River made it even more special.

The second largest city in Germany and, a coastal city at that. I have been to Hamburg a few times,…read morebut never had the opportunity to explore as much of it, as we had this time around. We walked for hours exploring different neighbourhoods and loved it. It's a town with lots of old money and, areas that are super posh, to really grungy ones. There is something here for everyone and, different areas you may prefer, based on your liking. Whilst there is a center to the old city, there is much more in the surrounding areas, so don't forget to get out of the city center and explore some of the neighboring suburbs. Tons of nice bars, cafes and restaurants scattered around the city and plenty of vegetarian and vegan options as well. The harbour front is well worth exploring as are some of the inner city suburbs. It's a very green city and has decent public transport. A wonderful city to visit in my opinion and I would happily come again anytime. It's one of the cities we have said we would be happy to live in.

Pretty much the place for the night life in Hamburg. It's probably eight or so block by 4 or so…read moreblock wide radius. It translates to "Red Light" which implies it as a Red Light District. Much smaller than the one in Amsterdam, this one isn't too bad. There's a main strip where you can walk and drive down both sides of the street. Tons of bars, strip bars, restaurants, fast food, souvenir shops, cigarette shops, casinos, etc. I want to say there were a few hotels there but they didn't look too appealing. The restaurants included sit down ones and fast food. THere's a decent outdoor sausage grill place called Lucille's that is open all hours and is very good. There are also tons of bars and shops in the side streets off of the main strip. Of course there is the famed window section of this area as well. It's similar to Amsterdam but here they are all concentrated in a three block or so radius. This area is also forbidden to anyone but men. I'm not sure what happens when a female walks through here but there are signs stating females are not allowed. There are also ATM's every where here.
