There are guided tours in German and English language. Note that the English guided tours are not as often as the German guided tours. Our guide was knowledgeable and entertaining. He made the guided tour enjoyable. It was nice learning the history and seeing various rooms of the Hamburg Townhall. Overall, I recommend visiting this landmark and doing the guided tour.

Government still operates from here. I did not have time for a proper tour of the building, but the next time I am in Hamburg, I absolutely will do so. The lobby is open to the public and you can get to a few other places if the parliament is not actually in session. [Review 12060 overall, 1843 of 2019.]

I was actually in here 2 months ago when they'd just handily returned my lens to Korea because I couldn't come and pick it up in time. This time I came right away, armed with my passport and the eBay receipt on my phone. Sorry, printed copies only mate! After waiting 20 minutes! I left in disgust, but returned triumphantly 5 minutes later with a print out for free from the local hotel! System beaten, we left never to return again!

If you have to come here to pick anything up, make sure you bring all your paperwork and a book to…read moreread as it's normally an hours wait or more. For non-German speakers its confusing. First you need to go right into the dispatch room wait at the left hand side of the counter and get given a raffle ticket with a number. Then you have to wait in the lift lobby of the main building and wait till someone runs out and calls your number. I know this from experience, not guidance. There are no signs telling you any of this, so you need to work it out for yourself. It could all be so much more efficient, but this is the Customs so I guess it just isn't.
