However, once I ventured upstairs, I was shocked seeing how dilapidated all of the decor & stained carpets were. Outside tables were fold-down plastic picnic tables & even the women's restroom was outdated & dirty. The view is beautiful but taken away by screaming little kids standing on chairs with drunk father stammering around picking arguments with surrounding tables. Food, including calamari, charcuterie, and chicken lettuce wraps were inedible, overly breaded/fried, and simply disgusting. When I spoke with the General Manager, he shook my hand aggressively, avoided eye contact, and spoke condescendingly. When my colleague, who is an executive for a prominent news channel, tried to calmly explain the complaints, GM made it evident he was not interested in receiving any sort of constructive feedback before we joined as members. Being an active member in the equestrian community, I was looking forward to recruiting more friends to join, as well. However, I would not waste time or money on a membership for such an outdated, rude, poorly serviced establishment. The ocean is free to look at and there are plenty of elegant restaurants to enjoy excellent food, quality service, and especially treat patrons with basic etiquette.

We had our ceremony on the deck, cocktail hour on the deck, and our reception inside. Cynthia from Breakwater Events and Catering was FANTASTIC to work with during our year of planning! She went above and beyond to make our wedding day dreams come true. She was responsive, flexible, very knowledgeable, and best of all, she was warm and welcoming! After our initial meeting, I felt like Cynthia was an old family friend. She was our point of contact throughout the entire process and it made planning and communicating a breeze. I work in technology as a software developer in San Francisco and am very "Type A" and detail oriented. Cynthia took in all of our requests, ideas, and last minute changes and was able to accommodate all of our ideas and assist us in realizing what was worth spending on and what wasn't. She responded to hundreds of my emails, made herself available on short notice to do venue tours when we were in town, assisted us in recommending and selecting vendors. Some of our wedding highlights included: Amazing views of Dana Point Harbor from Avenutra's deck during our wedding ceremony, beautiful white tent that shaded our guests during our ceremony (which was included), incredible food, fantastic custom signature cocktail, photo booth, Donut Dessert Bar. The newly wed couple arrived on a sailboat that went around the harbor and they were greeted with rose peddles throw by the guests. The buffet dinner was so good and we all danced until midnight. The chandeliers and fire pits on the wrap-around balcony made sitting outside watching the beautiful sunset and then the starry night magical. We even had S'more's and they were wonderful also. One of the best things about having an event at Aventura is working with Cynthia and Doug (Breakwater Events Catering). They will help you decorate and also set up a fabulous menu for your guests. The second event that I had at Aventura was a convention dinner. Again, the buffet dinner was delicious and the decorations were beautiful. They even found the logo for our group and had it playing on the four flat screen TV's in the room. Their IP guy worked with our IP guy and the presentation went off without any problems. If you are planning a special event, I would highly recommend having it at Aventura in Dana Point. It is easy to get to and the sailboats and ocean views make it a spectacular event location. I called and placed that order and did not ask the price, my mistake. I called the day of to confirm the pick up time and was told my total was $80.00! I was shocked. One dozen solid color balloons at a grocery store is $19.99. I called every store around and no one had the gold numbers I needed. So I kept my order with San Clemente Balloons and picked them up. This business is run out of their garage and the balloons were what I ordered. I'm still sick over the price. I'm all for businesses making a profit, especially a small business - but that much mark up is unacceptable. It looks like they do nice work on large balloon arches and larger orders ... but if you have a small order, please consider using someone else.

Cassie worked with us to customize our full planning package to be within our budget (meaning we didn't get all of the full planning services but most--and definitely the most critical). She met with us in person to work on mapping out our ideas and overall objectives, came with us on venue visits, joined us when we met our florist, found us the right photographer, and helped review all contracts. She even came along (her schedule and location allowed) to my hair and makeup trial since I'm her former life she did that too). She may have had some points where responses could've been quicker or we were a little late on receiving certain things, but I also knew that was likely since I couldn't be the only bride she'd be working with and would juggle priorities as needed. At the end of the day though, she really came through and went above and beyond. She was clutch! All of our vendors were so kind and fun--and amazing, and such great people. She was also able to negotiate rates with all of them too so we could stay within our budget. We all had a great time and I know it was because of a Cassie and Golden Dot Events.

The evening was perfect: cool atmosphere and delicious food! The venue itself is interesting with photographs of long ago stars who performed here. The evening was a memorable night. He was extremely RUDE AND NASTY to my husband and I. We were in the neighborhood looking at possibility of using the place for an upcoming wedding. And he basically said we were trespassing and asked us to leave in a VERY rude manner. He also threatened to call the police for supposedly "trespassing" even though we're locals that live in the neighborhood and just wanted to get a brief peak at the facility that they were decorating for a wedding. Even one of the vendors said please come take a look. What a stupid and horrible, horrible way of providing customer service to Potential clients. This person should be fired and reprimanded for his behavior. Nothing I would expect from a San Clemente Community center.
