This was my first time at this location and it took a minute to find it in the industrial complex. There were several cars there for the 8 am drop off. I went inside to get in line. Lots of dog and cat owners, but I was handed the form/clipboard to complete ahead of time. They actually emailed it after I made the appt. with $20 deposit, but I wasn't able to print it. The line went pretty quickly for check-in. I answered questions about my daughter's dog who needed to be neutered. They took him back and I was told I would get a call in a few hours. He would need to be picked up within an hour of the call. I okayed the $10 cone for him, and the rabies vaccine. I got the call about 1:45, and was told he should be picked up by 2. Checkout was easy, with post-op instructions and pain meds. I paid the invoice, which was a low $85 for everything. Great service and it's nice to know so many people are taking their pets for spay/neuter. Tip: they do not accept CareCredit. read more

The ONLY issue, and it wasn't really an issue, was finding the location. Once you are at the building go around the back and the Rascal Unit is the first entrance. Once in side we were greeted immediately by a very kind and professional woman. I had completed my paperwork, for a neuter of my minuature poodle, in advance which saved time upon arrival. The woman snuggled my baby and treated him like her own leaving my granddaughter and I with a warm and safe feeling. We arrived at 8 am and received a call before noon that our baby was ready for pickup. My puppy was once again being snuggled by the same lady when we arrived to pick him up. He had absolutely no problems and was happy. The price was more than reasonable. I am so very grateful to the Rascal Unit for their kind, compassionate, and well priced service. I am so very pleased with the service received and would highly recommend the Rascal Unit for your pets' health needs. Thank you Rascal Unit! read more

If I could give them zero stars I would. What could improve? About everything - especially a whole new staff. This place was very unprofessional and horrible handling and care of my cat. They had my cat for 8 hours, when I did come pick him up - they gave me the wrong cat at first. Then they continuously referred to HIM as a HER. The so called "vet" Jessica Shelby was dressed in khakis and a tee-shirt looking homeless- didn't acknowledge me besides rolling her eyes at me. No explanation of why my cat was unresponsive. Not worth the price at all. I wish someone would have told me. Please save yourself the stress and worry and go someplace else. read more

I had my dog spayed at the Rascal Unit just over a week ago. I opted to take her there versus our trusted vet because of the cost. To spay her at our vet, it would have been nearly $450. At the Rascal Unit, it was $110. I was a little nervous about taking her to a 'budget surgeon,' but I had done my research. The Rascal Unit is a great place. They have an onsite surgery center, plus they have a Winnebago that they travel around in shelter to shelter spaying and neutering adoptable pets for free or for a hugely discounted price. I felt they were good, competent. Plus, I assured myself that this is a routine procedure, and it's their specialty. They've done thousands upon thousands of spays and neuters. I was told to drop Macey off between 8-10a. The building was a bit hard to find. If you're going, once you're on Old Avery, be sure to turn between the two big brown warehouses, drive all the way to the back, and take the tiny side road on the right. The Rascal Unit is the last building in the back. I entered and was greeted by a bunch of other pet owners with both dogs and cats. I was given some paperwork, and a staff member led Macey to the back. I was told they would call me to let me know how it went and that I could pick her up that evening. I went off to work and thought about her all day. They called around 3:30p to let me know that the surgery went well and that Macey was fine. I could pick her up at 5:30p. Perfect! I couldn't wait to get her. When I arrived, the waiting room was even more packed with pet owners, all there for the same reason. I stood in the hallway. They brought Macey to me. She was so out of it from the anesthesia. It was pathetic and adorable. They didn't give her a funnel collar, which concerned me because I had to drive her home alone and was worried about licking. They told me I could pick one up from PetSmart. I had Greg get one. It was $22. Luckily, Macey didn't lick at all in the car. That night was really rough. Macey was not reacting well to the anesthesia. She wouldn't eat the recommended half meal we offered her. She even turned her head away when I tried to give her the pain pills I'd disguised on a piece of peanut butter toast. She did have a few laps of water, but she wasn't able to keep anything down. The next morning wasn't a whole lot better. She still wasn't eating or drinking anything, and she would shiver with pain every time she breathed in. I kept trying to get her to take the pain pills, but she refused. I tried calling the Rascal Unit, but kept getting the answering machine. It directed me to an emergency vet. They encouraged me to bring her in and told me it would be $112 to see the emergency vet plus additional costs for tests. I broke down and called our family vet. The vet said her incision looked good. He wasn't worried about infection or swelling, but he did give her shots to calm her stomach and soothe her pain. I was told to fast her for another day then to feed her bland food, which he gave us complimentary. I was relieved that he knocked off the office visit fee. I only had to pay for the shots: $96, nearly doubling the cost of Macey's budget surgery. That night, Macey whimpered uncontrollably from 11p-7a. I got about an hour of sleep total. In the morning, I gave her another once over and found she was lactating! I called the vet again. He told me that unless dogs get a signal that they're not pregnant, their bodies think they are. Now, when I let her outside, she tries to burrow holes to lay her babies. She's also gotten very protective of her toys. She piles them up and nests on top of them. If one is missing, she paces and cries. She licks them obsessively. And if you try to take one from her, she gets snappy. I'm hoping this doesn't last much longer. It's been an experience. But the incision seems to be healing nicely. They glued her, so we won't have to go back to have stitches or staples removed, which is nice. I would go to Rascal Unit again. If you're going, here are my tips: -Be sure to bring paper documentation that your pet has had a rabies shot. An ID tag will not do. If you don't have the paperwork, they'll give your pet a $7 rabies shot onsite. -Bring a Visa, Mastercard, or cash. The unit doesn't accept checks. -Bring your own funnel collar. -Be aware that they're only going to give you three days worth of pain medicine. -Ask about the procedure including what kind of anesthesia they used and how much. That way, you can fill your vet in on the details. -Be sure you know that Rascal Unit won't do any follow-up care. After surgery care and emergencies are your responsibility. -Get your pet a nice new toy so you won't feel so guilty about tricking them into getting body parts removed. read more

I have been a long time believer in this vet hospital for years and have recommended their services to hundreds of people. However, I am now searching for a new vet hospital who cares for the humans and treats us with respect quick and courteous service. There has been a major change in the way they provide services to our pets. They no longer provide 24 hour services and their employees are rude and seem as they dont care. They leave you wait, wait and more waiting even if you have an appointment (which is always more than 30 days away) if you leave after you check in, they charge 10.00. It wasnt even posted when they charged me after waiting almost 3 hours for vaccinations. Now they want 10 with late fees totalling 19.00 for making me late for an appointment. I will NEVER go back even though they cost less. They're not the same vet hospital I grew to love. read more

I had my dog neutered here. As a student, this fit nicely into my budget. They did a great job and I actually got a funnel collar from them unlike what the previous reviewer said. Not sure why I had a different experience. My dog did great. He was out of it for a couple days, but was able to eat, drink, and go for walks. I also took him there for a yearly checkup and exam. They went above and beyond to try to get a stool sample because my dog had just emptied his bowels before the visit. Great service considering I was paying so much less. For routine procedures and checkups, I think rascal unit is a great option. Highly recommended! Update: took my dog here for a dental cleaning recently. Again had great service, reasonable prices, and I even received a week's worth of pain meds for him! How awesome is that? Will return. read more

We had a great experience with our 4 Great Pyrenees dogs. 2 were spayed and 3 had chips put in and all 4 had their annual shots and teeth cleanings in Springfield, OH with their mobile unit. They did great on their followups at a distance and tried to help the best they could with scripts for the meds through online services. Their coordinator and all the staff has been professional. Our vet committed suicide and left us stranded and had always been fair and accommodating -- and so many of us who had been with him for 25 years were in shock to discover the very high costs to pet-care -- this fellow made house calls and cost were nominal when you have more than a few animals. Rascal seem to get the idea that for those of us with large breeds and more than one, need to be able to keep that affordable so that we can be effective -- especially when we do our part as a responsible caretaker for these gentle giants. There is something to be said for reasonable cost and care and finding that balance. read more

Worst experience of my life! The front desk staff is the rudest most miserable group of individuals I have ever met. The last thing they should do is deal with the public! We waited over two hours for our Appointment! They are condescending and the only thing they want to do is a major surgery. While waiting four hours in the lobby after they took my dog back for "observation" they billed me $600 and said he needed emergency surgery. I declined and went to my regular vet the next day - he had allergies and did not need anything other than an allergy pill! While waiting there were at least 20 people that were there with their pets-somehow, EVERY patient needed emergency surgery in excess of $5000! DO NOT LET THEM TOUCH YOUR PET! read more

Great place and people not only to our pets but for the community. This is great with prices lower than that of the most vet places. Years ago they neutered my dog and tagged him with RF-ID. They have a mobile surgical RV that came to a local animal shelter. We had such a great experience with the dog we were pleased to take our new kitten to be neutered, de-clawed and to get all the needed shots. read more

After calling for weeks, without being able to get through to anyone (busy signal or full VM) I finally scheduled a vaccine date with a dental procedure (5 weeks after the date I was able to get through). I dropped my dog off this AM (was not called about pre-surgery requirements or drop off) and was not impressed by the customer service or the attitude of the VT that did the intake. The invoice was created and massively inflated vs. the amounts listed on the website and I had to call 3x during the day to verify that the procedure had gone well (2x busy signal) and once I spoke with someone she was unable to give me any details (although she did manage to tell me the dog's teeth were in bad shape). All in all, without having seen the total, I'm 96% sure I would not be bringing my animal back to Rascal. Unfortunately, they were better before they opened the new 'state of the art' facility. read more

We took our animals to the Rascal Unit offices in Dublin for basic care - check-up, shots, blood-work etc - because of the price, which is much lower than the charges at any vets we have previously used, but we will keep going back because of the great care our animals have received there. The office is a no-frills affair, but don't be deceived by appearances - they are quite well equipped (e.g. they have their own ultrasound machine which most vets don't) and board certified vets come in to provide specialized services. Blood-work is sent out to a lab rather than done in-house, but the tests are more comprehensive than those most in-house machines can perform and very reasonably priced (i.e. no huge mark-up on lab charges), and results are usually back the following day. They also give you prescriptions so you can get them filled at a supermarket pharmacy for $4 instead of selling you generic drugs at massively inflated prices, and don't sell or recommend pet food sales reps have persuaded them to. It's the people that make a good vet practice of course, and although I can't comment on everyone who works there, I was very pleased with everyone with whom we interacted. I found the support and tech staff pleasant and efficient, and was extremely happy with the thoroughness of Dr. Griffin's examination and the time she took to discuss everything on the phone when the test results came in. In fact, we were so impressed with Dr. Griffin that when one of our dogs became seriously ill, we took her back to Rascal Unit even though it's a 45-minute drive and there are many other vets much closer to home. The care our dog has received there has been excellent. Valerie, in particular, has been very kind to us and sweet with our dog, and Dr. Griffin has been exemplary, giving us support and advice over the phone or by email as well as during office visits. She listens to what you are saying and discusses testing and treatment options to find the best course of action for you and your animal rather than just prescribing from on-high. In short, we are more than satisfied and will be taking all our animals there in future. read more

My 12 year old dog had a large tumor on his leg. I went to my vet who sent me to a specialist that said it would cost nearly $5,000 to have it removed. Desperate, I asked for referrals and was told by a few people to try Rascal Unit. I am so glad I did. Not only did they care for my dog and remove the tumor, they did everything for a fraction of the cost - less than $500. My dog recovered just fine, and I am going to take all of my animals there from now on. read more

While I am glad that they have very affordable prices to get your dog spayed/neutered, the staff was not very informative or friendly. The first girl I talked to was very rude and had zero business doing any kind of interaction with the public. I tried ask her about the different types of flea/tick/heart worm medications the sold and she looked at me like I was stupid for even asking that question, then I asked her how much it was going to be for the neutering and they didn't even tell me (thanks ever so much because it made me worry the whole day if I was going to have enough money). This is a service for low income, maybe you should put a sign up on the prices or on the rascal website put the prices for the separate unit. I went to the Rascal main site over on Britton Pkwy and they told me their prices were the same and I would get a discount for being a disabled veteran. That wasn't even the case at all. I love it when an organization is disorganized and has zero communication. I've come to expect it these days. The other lady was pretty nice so I won't give them two stars for that. I found a dog stray and took him in and gave him a home so I won't give them 1 star just because they did help get him neutered, they just don't have to be jerks about it. read more

Took my kitten here for his shots. Prices are wonderful and staff seems to know what they are doing. Vet's exam wasn't very thorough however. They did not look into his eyes or ears, did not check for fleas or anything. All she did was listen to his heart. If you know you have a well cared for and healthy pet, then I definitely advise coming here for shots and such. But if you want to spend more time speaking with a vet and having a thorough physical, go somewhere else. But you get what you pay for and my kitty is definitely coming back for his 2nd round of shots! Also it can be hard to get someone on the phone, but make an appnt first b/c there's a walk-in fee and the wait time can add up to hrs. Also they just moved to a new location by best buy at tuttle so don't go to the wrong place like I almost did! read more

I was very Impressed with how things were run at Rascal's.So impressed I talked my friend into taking the Brother of my baby to them. On my first visit i was told because fancy was so young she would need 3 sets of shots and would get Rabie on Third Visit. Well, my friend decided to take the brother on second visit. When my baby got her shot's this time they gave the Rabie.and said that she was done for a year now?But good . Then the Brother got his( same as my first).We found that they charged me $15.00 more for Same Thing.Except added something about Added Conciltation? I Don't Understand this sence only thing I asked about was getting her Spayed. Anyway,They were Great with Her and Her Brother.But I wonder Who Set's the Billing Up.And Who Decides How Many Visit's Are Truly Needed. Other then that They Were Great.And now we are deciding when to get them Spayed and Nutered.We were told the price is $90.00. But after Reading Review's From Past.I'm Wondering if they are going to charge EXTRA for Pain Meds, Anistesia, Coller ect?Guess I better call and find out.Then see if it is The Same When We Get There.And All Is SAID And DONE!!lol read more

We found that our dog had an obstruction in her intestines and needed surgery. We originally took her to OSU, who estimated the surgery to be anywhere from $1500 to $2500. They recommended Rascal Unit, who estimated the surgery to be $750 to $1000, so we took OSU's recommendation and went to Rascal. We took her in around 9:30 am and they told us her surgery would take place sometime in the next few hours. I called at 1:00 pm and she still had not had her surgery and they again said within the next 2 hours. I called back at 5:00 pm and she STILL had not had surgery and the tech told me she was sedated and that they were just waiting for the doctor to finish up with a dental. I again called at 8:00 pm and yet again, she was still waiting and still sedated. Finally, we got a call at 11:00 pm and she was through with surgery. Apparently they were busy with spays and neuters, but I would think an obstruction would be a little more urgent...especially when OSU told us it was. All throughout the day, the woman at the front desk was extremely rude and kept interrupting me and making excuses when I told her how frustrated we were. When I finally got to pick up my dog and take her home, they did not tell me when her next pain pill was due and I had to call literally 34 times before anyone would answer. About a week after our dog's surgery, she was having a bad cough and trouble breathing. We took her back and they said she had kennel cough, which she obviously acquired from her stay there, which of course, they charged me for. My last and final gripe about this place is when we took our dog back 10 days later to get her staples out. They told me to just walk-in and it would take 5 minutes to get her staples removed. I drove 30 minutes to get there and they tell me they are too busy to do it and it will be at least 2 hours. My only options were to wait 2 hours or bring her back another day and risk the same thing happening because they were completely booked for the week. I ended up taking her to my original vet to have her staples removed. I really tried to give this place a chance, but they let me down again and again and again. The only reason I gave them 2 stars was because our dog was able to get the surgery at half the price it would have been at OSU. In the future, I would rather pay the extra money and have good service and be confidant that my dog will be in good hands. read more

wonderful place. Yes, it has plain folding chairs in the lobby but who cares? Dr. Martinez is very friendly and competent. I took my dog in there in an emergency situation where we thought he might have a bowel obstruction. They did an x-ray and ruled out the bowel obstruction and really took care of my dog. They sent home clear instructions and did not overcharge!!!! Many more people will be able to take care of their pets now that the Rascal Unit is in town. So many more pets will have the care that they need if their "parents" don't always have the funds. Congratulations to Dr. Gonzalez for providing a great service for those that need it. You don't pay for frills but the frills come in the care. read more

In a nutshell- this place was great. Forget about the very reasonable cost-they offer exceptional care and that's what I was looking for. I'm not looking for a spa experience. I'm looking for quality and was reassured that this place offers it as they do this surgery so much more often than your neighborhood vet. I took my dog Daisy to the Rascal Unit last week to have her spayed and microchipped. Before going, I read the review here of Macey's owner and I have to say that despite her rating, her review left me a little concerned. When the staff called the night before the surgery, I relayed my concerns (based on that review) and after speaking with the staff, I felt fine. I brought her in the next day, and found the place to be very clean and well run. I had very little wait. I had questions about heartworm testing that the staff was very knowledgeable about and I was able to speak with the vet personally as well. By 1:15 they called and left a message she was fine and could be picked up. She was given pain medicine for 3 days, and was given detailed instructions. Despite the other review on here, they DO OFFER FREE FOLLOW-UP CARE for complications, but it just has to be during their office hours (what more could you expect?). Also, they offer collars for $7 so if you feel you need one, you can get one (I didn't). Daisy did great. Of course she looked bad for the first two days-she just had surgery-who wouldn't? And for what it's worth, I'm not one who would compromise care for cost. You'd be hard-pressed to find someone who loves their dog more than I love Daisy. read more

I have taken my dog Bett to Rascal Unit for the past 3 years, always have had polite and fast visits. Ive been charged reasonable prices for any and all services. We recently got another dog off of Craigslist unbeknownst to us she was pregnant, the Rascal Unit was very helpful in helping us decide not only how to proceed but how to take care of not only Chia the new mom but the pup should they survive. Sadly they did not but the ladies @ the Rascal Unit were more than willing to assist us with whatever we chose to do. They were compassionate and it was appreciated more than they will ever know. They were helpful in everyway possible and never have we been sent out the door w/o proper "@ home" care. They are my VET and I love the new offices @ Tuttle! Being a single mom living pay check to pay check I appreciate the Rascal Unit being around for both of my baby girls. I always get estimates of any services performed so I am not "surprised". They have always treated both Bett and now Chia as 1 of their own and that to me is invaluable. Thanks guys for everything yesterday! read more

Not impressed! They did not bill is correctly, so we got overcharged $60 dollars. Also, our dog was to get a rabies vaccine and they forgot to to do that. Our dog was there for over 8 hours without food or water waiting to get his teeth cleaned. We will not be a repeat customer. After leaving 2 messages, and calling 20 times only to get a recording, I have to wonder how professional they are. The manager was to give me a call within 24 hrs, its been over 48 hours and still no call. Shame on Rascal Unit! Should be renamed Scoundrel Unit ! read more

If it was possible to give less than 1 star, I would. The staff was rude and condescending. I expected to wait knowing that it was a walk in animal hospital. And I certainly didn't mind waiting my turn, and would have completely understood any more serious cases being taken before me. That was not the problem. However, once they did call my cat and I into an examination room, the assistant looked her over, said the doctor would be in and left. We were left alone in that cold room for over a half an hour and didn't hear a thing from anyone. When the vet came in, she questioned whether the cat was actually mine. You see, the name on her tag is different from the name on her file. But she goes by many names. All of them are listed on the pet FBI ad that I recently placed after she got out and was missing for a while. She had always been an indoor cat, and she figured out how to escape to the outside by pushing a screen out of a lower level window. She did come back, and that's why I brought her in there to have her checked over. She was spayed there. Speaking of spaying, that is the only area of service for which this practice has reasonable prices. No, to be fair, their pricing for that procedure is very low and competitive. But they definitely make up for that with what they charge for everything else. After the vet insinuated that my cat did not belong to me, she said she had to check something, and they left us alone in there for another 10 or 15 minutes. Then the assistant came back in and told me the tests that they could do to check my cats blood and urine and make sure that she was OK. By that time, after nearly 4 hours there, I had to leave because someone was depending on me to pick them up. They told me the blood test would take at least another half hour. I just threw my hands up in the air and left with $47.50 less in my bank account. It is obvious to me why this place charges for the office visit up front. Once they have that, they don't have to worry about how they treat you. I have been to other vets and have never been treated this way. Come to think of it, none of them charge upfront. The only thing this place has going for it is that you don't need an appointment (as long as you have three or four hours to waste) and low prices for spay or neuter. For any other non-emergency, you are better off going anywhere else. read more

TERRIBLE SERVICE! I had been a loyal customer since they opened on avery, their prices seemed good compared to other places and their service was decent. Since they have moved to the tuttle area I have noticed a serious decline in their service and not to mention, their prices have gone up quite a bit. If you are lucky enough to have someone answer your call, they put you on hold forever and play really annoying music in your ear. But most of the time you will get a voicemail and if you leave a message, they will never get back to you. I recently ordered a bag of dog food from them and they said it should be there in 5 days and even said they would call me when it came in. I never get a call so I call them and they were like "oh we forgot to order it" By this time I'm pretty much out of food so I had to buy some canned food to hold my dog over. I told them I should get a discount for being inconvenienced but that was just out of the question. Anyway at that point they order my food. Days later, I call back (had to call like 5 times to get someone to pick up) and finally I get a hold of a girl and she goes back looking for my food and comes back and says they have a bag of what I need (I have to wonder if it was ordered specifically for me). After all this she says the food went up in price. I told her to get the manager and after like 10 minutes this awful woman comes out of a hole in the back. I told her it took nearly two weeks to get my food and I had to buy canned food just because of their screw up. I felt like I should get the old price this one time because of all the hassle I went through to just get a bag of food. She didn't even apologize for their error and actually had the nerve to tell me that it didn't happen. All she could tell me was to "go somewhere else". Her tone was so nasty and just showed me what they are all about. I just can't believe this place does not value customers that have been going there so long. I am NEVER taking my pet there EVER again. I will take my money and get better service and care somewhere else. read more
