My girlfriend and I attended the spa yesterday for massages and facials. They were both fantastic, unfortunately they don't give their names so cannot throw kudos their way. Only thing I would change next time is to ask for a treatment room NOT over the salon, as you can constantly hear the blow dryers and the laughing and chatter, I had to focus on the music vs the distractions from downstairs. At the end I decided to have my brows done and that was a mistake, she was very rough and tough on my eyes, won't book that again. BUT what we went for was the facials and massages and we both were completely happy with our gals and would ask to be booked with them again next time. read more

The 90 minutes I spent with Carrie was simply the best massage I have ever had. Her hands are very skilled, and she seemed to read and react to my needs and wants. Even her conversation was just right to establish a level of comfort without distracting from the tranquility of the experience. The environment is beautiful and relaxing. As newlywed's, my husband and I went here on our honeymoon for a couple's massage. We got our best deep tissue massages at Rapunzel's for the area. They have everything that you would expect a top notch spa to have. Zarah and Annette went above and beyond for us! They are very skilled at their work and the environment inside was relaxing. We didn't know to show up early to do paperwork so we got started late, but they added an extra 30min to our 90 min massage to make up for it! The deep tissue massages were great to loosen up our tight muscles after a day of skiing. We'll definitely be visiting them when we go back to Canada! Their prices are more reasonable compared to some of their overpriced competitors in the area. We highly recommend Rapunzel's! read more

Such a disappointing experience. Let me start off by saying I get my hair (washed) and styled every couple months at a salon for my husbands work events. On April 5/14 I choose Rapunzle's Salon in Canmore and not only will I never return, but I will advise friends not to go. My apt was sched at 4pm but when my stylist finally called my name, it was almost 4:15 and no apology for being late. She was not very friendly and she did not wash my hair (I suspect because she no longer had time) but simply gave me the loose curls I asked for. When I approached the front desk to pay, I was completely surprised when they charged me $78 for this! I've never paid more than $45 in a high quality Calgary salon for a simple wash and style. The receptionist told me they automatically charged me for a 'wedding' style -$10. Awful experience from beginning to end. Most of the wives at my husband's company's event knew something I didn't and went to 'The Loft' in Canmore and paid 50% less... that's where I'll be going from now on! read more

Ellen was so attentive to all my trouble spots and my massage was just amazing. I did the relaxation massage but she still paid attention to tight spots and knots in my body. She also gave me amazing tips on how to do stretches to maintain a loose back and shoulders. The entire staff was very friendly and warm and excellent at what they do. I've been going here every summer since around 2010 They're consistent with any other Aveda salon I've been to and I always get a great color, even when I've forgotten my formula. Danica is good when she's around (she travels a lot). Sarah is excellent and everyone I've had in the aesthetics department is great. In a booming tourist town like Canmore, it's hard to find good service but this Salon rivals any other Aveda I've been to, which is refreshing. Most service people in Canmore act like you're an inconvenience...which I suppose you are when everyone who moves here wants to play! read more

Headed to Canmore in need of a solitary getaway and booked at Rapunzel Spa and Salon. I must mention that I am a massage therapist and have been for 10 years so I am very familiar with treatments and spas. Rapunzel was great! The spa is very "mountain-esque" it feels like a ski chalet. My only disappointment was that there is no option to change out of your street clothes. I sat waiting in the lounge in my jeans and it just didn't feel relaxing. I also asked if there was a steam room and was told no, but then saw one? That must be for special treatments I guess. The lounge is cozy with magazines, tea and water but I think this could be upped by offering some cookies to snack on and add robes to the mix! Side note: if you have trouble with stairs you may want to avoid this place. Negatives aside... I had the greatest massage from a therapist named Ellen. If you book a massage here I highly recommend her. She is attentive and gives one of the best massages I have ever had. Every time I go to Canmore I will make a point of booking with her. So great! Overall an excellent experience and I will be back. read more

TERRIBLE !!! Do not go for wedding hair and makeup ! There was only two of us and it took way to long ! It was so expensive and once we returned to our hotel we spent more time redoing out hair and makeup what a waste of $400.00+ so disappointing . My hair looked like I was at a 80's themed wedding and my makeup was done like I was a 6 year old flower girl . My wife and I went for a massage here. I got Brenda and she was amazing. Seriously the best massage I've ever had. I went back for another massage that was equally amazing. She really hit the spots that needed to be worked on and was not afraid to work hard on a few tough knots I had, where most massages I've had in the past they didn't want to dig in. My husband and I went here to get a couples massage as a treat. I've never had a massage and my husband has had a number of them. From the moment I called to book the appointment to the time we left the service was excellent. The 2 masseuses Stephanie and Kathy we had were fantastic. Mine explained everything that I needed to know and made me completely comfortable with what was going to happen. My husband actually fell asleep for a good portion of his massage and said it was one of the best massages he's ever had. I was completely relaxed when I left. The atmosphere is great, the decor is relaxing and nice. The place was incredibly clean. I will definitely be going back there, my husband wants to as well. They do not know how to cut thick hair. Once you wash it, if it comes forward, it will be obviously uneven. The first time, I thought it was a mistake. The second time I was beyond disappointed. I can't have them down.They won't fix it and they will blame you. These people are not to be trusted. They prefer to give you a long session of hair dryer and brushing so that it is all hidden (as if normal people have time or interest to do so) and then you are stuck with the problem. read more

I went to Rapunzel's to have my wedding hair done in August 2012. I had called multiple times prior to the appointment confirming that my appointment included a wash and bridal style. When I arrived there the day of my wedding, the first thing they told me was that my appointment did not include a wash and that they had no time to do it. I told the lady that there was no way I was going to my wedding without washing my hair and that they should have told me they don't wash bridal hair ahead of time so I could have washed it at the hotel. They ended up washing it. The manager there, who was supposedly the most senior stylist did my wedding hair and till this day, I hate looking at it in pictures. I hadn't done a trial prior to the wedding (which was my mistake) but had taken pictures with me and made it very clear what I wanted. I had asked for a very simple style, nothing elaborate. I wanted loose beachy waves with my hair down. She ended up giving me tight curls and kept telling me through the whole appointment "I know this isn't what you're looking for but when we're done, it will look like what you want." Well, unfortunately, her statement didn't materialize. It still looked terrible when she was done and nothing like the picture I provided her. The worst part is she did a rough dry on my hair prior to starting to curl it. So she worked with a frizzy base because I have naturally wavy hair. Instead of blow drying it with a round brush then using a flat or large barrel curling iron, she just air dried my hair and used a small barrel curling iron. Then when she realized it wasn't giving the desired look, starting using a flat iron to go over the curls. Another issue was they used a cheap "strong hold" hair spray that made my hair sticky and greasy looking.Although they're an Aveda salon, they didn't have Aveda hair spray for use. The style I wanted for my wedding was one that I'm able to do myself on any given day. I wanted to treat myself the day of my wedding so I thought I would have it done at a Salon. I didn't think it would be hard for a professional to replicate this look. I didn't have time after she was done to go back to the hotel room, wash my hair and restyle it. I'm posting this to prevent future brides from going to this place and having their hair ruined on one of the most important days of their life. If you are going to go there, at least do a trial to make sure the person you get knows what they're doing and achieves the look you want. read more

I recently had their Aromatherapy Pedicure and Manicure. The salon's environment was very relaxing and the esthetician doing my services was attentive and easy to chat with. The manicure area and pedicure chairs seemed clean. Aveda tea was offered throughout my services. This salon uses SpaRitual nail polish and had a limited selection of colours for my manicure. I was only given about a dozen polish colours to chose from for my manicure. When I was moved into the pedicure area, there were at least triple the amount of polishes to chose from. I wish the esthetician had shown me all of the colours available, as I ended up choosing a colour for my manicure I was only somewhat happy with. The reason I have only given this salon two stars in my review is because within two days of my services my manicure was chipping off. I was not doing anything strenous with my hands, eg. typing or gardening, and I use SpaRitual products at home and know that their polishes usually last a week on my fingers without chipping. This leaves me to believe the application by the esthetician was the issue. Further, my pedicure starting chipping five days later. Pedicures always last for weeks on me. For $140 for both services I expected a high quality 'product' from Rapunzel's. read more

Do NOT go here with a large group/wedding party. I got married in Banff this summer and had a very large wedding party (7 bridesmaids, 1 junior bridesmaid and a flower girl). We all went to Rapunzel's for hair and a few people got their makeup done as well. Luckily my hair was done well. My makeup was only so-so - I probably could've done it just as well myself. 2 of the bridesmaids and my mother all ended up going back to the hotel to wash their hair and start over. They tried to explain to their hair stylist what they wanted but the stylist kept doing a really terrible job. We were booked so tight, with another wedding party coming in after us, that they were told that they had to be out of the chair by a certain time, even if their hair was not done. On top of this they were charged for the service! My mother (the mother of the bride) didn't get to see me put on my wedding dress because she was frantically redoing her own hair - after paying someone to do nothing, no less. One of my wedding guests is a hair stylist so she ended up redoing the hair of 2 bridesmaids and missing the ceremony as a result. It was a terrible experience and our whole group agreed that it was poorly handled. If they did not have the ability to service such a large group they should have said so and we could've sent half of the group to another salon. Secondly, they should not book wedding partied one on top of the other so that you end up kicked out so they can make more money. Going to Rapunzel's was truly a terrible way to start my wedding day. I will never go back and do not recommend it to anyone. I expected a lot better service and results considering they are an Aveda salon and considering they are in a location where there are LOTS of wedding so should have plenty of experience dealing with large groups and formal hairdo's. Lastly, even though they were well aware that we were unhappy with the results and service, no one has followed up with me to address the issue even though we spent over a thousand dollars there and the wedding was 2 1/2 months ago. read more
