I've been coming to Reno for years and wanted to venture outside of downtown. What an easy 45 min drive (yes we took a Lyft out and scheduled an Uber to pick us up). What a perfect set up and immersive experience. They provided drinks and snacks from hot tea to bottled water. They thought of everything including sunscreen. Kathleen is an owner and super experienced. She gave an informative orientation and educational tutorial on each of the 4 birds. I can't recommend this establishment more, so book your tour today ! What an amazing experience to be so close to these majestic birds. Their beauty, grace and attention will impress you. The Lady Hawk Master is so knowledgeable with a professional command over the birds. She also patiently answered my multitude of aviary questions. It's off to the right of a dirt road. It's before the Animal Ark. She has a multitude of refreshments and a comfortable open-air patio lounge area. While visiting Reno, I came across Raptor Adventures while searching the internet for things to do in the area. I love animals, I've never seen a real bird of prey up close so I thought this could be a cool experience. I waffled on the idea and decided to book last minute, I was SO GLAD I did. It was just an incredibly cool and interesting experience. Kathleen was our adventure leader. She was knowledgeable about all the Raptors, and has over 20 years of falconry experience. Today she brought out 2 different kinds of beautiful owls, one of which was very little and very cute. She had a Harris Hawk and peregrine falcon. I'll start off with saying that my love for birds, specifically raptors, has been with me for quite some time. Having seen the sign for Raptor Adventures right next to Animal Ark I had to see what it was all about. Unfortunately, it caught my eye late in the season...fortunately I was able to do this yesterday! Let me just say that is was incredibly worth the wait! WOW! Kathleen (owner) was amazing, generous and fun! She had a wealth of knowledge on each bird (we were able to meet a Peregrine Falcon, Eurasian Eagle Owl, and a Harris Hawk). All were equally incredible in their own right. We were able to handle all three and fly the hawk. I was so enamored by the whole experience that I'm still replaying it all in my head. Worth every penny, and Kathleen brought snacks, blankets (it was cold and windy!) and a variety of gloves. Despite the winter weather the birds were not shy and simply displayed their beauty and awesomeness...yes, I said awesomeness! If you have any interest at all in birds, this is for you! Couple side notes...dress in layers for sure and come with an empty bladder as there are no facilities there. That being said, I'll be back again! SO COOL! P.S. I wasn't able to check in because of my not-so-great cell service out there. read more

They say fieldtrips are wasted on the young. Now that I'm in my mid-30s, I have the time and energy and money to learn for fun. A confluence of touchpoints brought Raptor Adventures to my attention: they stopped by a local coffeeshop that I follow on Instagram and I saw photos, and a different raptor education company had a booth at the Nugget Rib Cookoff. My husband and I love animals, so we made plans with another couple to double date on a Sunday afternoon and learn about hawks, falcons, and eagles. We booked our adventure online, and we came prepared for the elements: dress warm if you're going in the fall; dress smart if you're going in the heat of the summer. We received an email confirmation and a text message reminder the day before the event. Drive like you're going to the animal sanctuary, but turn right before you actually get there. There's a sign for Raptor Adventures, but it's not as large as it could be at the moment. You'll see a pergola structure, which is where half of the experience will take place. That's perfect, because it's slightly protected from the elements (wind, sun) and it's nice to learn and watch while seated on a chair in a boho-cozy environment. Our educator's love of raptors was so genuine. She sensed our vibe and matched it perfectly. The coolest part of the experience was getting to walk a course with a Harris hawk doing it's thing, swooping from post to post and landing on folks outstretched arm, if desired. The two-hour experience made me so appreciative of nature and the majesty of the animal kingdom. Raptor Adventures is social media savvy, and it was so fun to have so many of my friends and family express their awe when I posted the photos and videos we took on Facebook and Instagram. I highly recommend booking an experience here, and we can't wait to do it again with a different set of friends in the spring. read more

A great experience, meeting several raptors -- my visit featured a Eurasian eagle-owl, a barn owl, and a saker falcon -- and going for a walk with a Harris hawk that flew freely from post to post to gauntlet when given a signal (and sometimes just because he felt like it). Kathleen kept things informal, explaining biology, habits, and habitats of different raptors, and sharing information about falconry -- keeping birds, hunting with them, and following the many laws that govern the sport. The site is adjacent to a wildlife park, if you want to make a full half-day of it, but the time with the raptors is reason enough for the half-hour drive from downtown Reno. read more

We had such a great time at our raptor experience today. We were first welcomed by Chief, the friendliest dog, and we weren't even out of our car yet. We were then greeted by Kathleen, our raptor expert. Kathleen had snacks and drinks set out for us. She was so welcoming and so very informative. We learned so much and we got to hold an owl, a falcon, and a hawk. We got up close and personal with Louise, an Eurasian Eagle Owl, Sabey, a Saker Falcon, and Zulu, a Harris' Hawk. This was a bucket list dream for me, so it was especially meaningful. To be up close to such amazing creatures is mind blowing. Thank you so much for allowing my husband and me the opportunity to learn about and be near your raptors. Everybody who is considering doing this experience, please do it! This was by far the best part of our vacation. Jim was super knowledgeable and clearly excited to share his knowledge with us. The owl was so docile we were able to not only hold it, but pet it and give it "kisses". The hawks were amazing and we were able to get some seriously wonderful photos and videos. Wow, what a great experience! We got to learn all about Hawks, Falcons, and eagles and handled three different birds. Then we went hunting for jackrabbits with the help of Jim's adorable dog Annabelle. She would flush the rabbits out for the hawk to go after. The whole adventure was a very unique and once in a lifetime type experience. My tips would be to arrive an hour early to visit the animal ark sanctuary which was free admission with the raptor adventure. Also wear closed toe shoes for sure and maybe pants (we went when it was 90 degrees out and so wore shorts) as you will be walking through brush with some prickers and sticks. read more

If I could give this 10 stars, I would! This is an up close and personal experience with birds of prey. You hold and feed these massive creatures. We watched one go after a wild rabbit. They have a dog that is friends with a huge owl. This is an experience between you and the trainer in a field. If you love animals you will love this. read more

This is a Not To Be Missed, Unique, Un-Touristy thing to do near Reno. It's a quick, easy drive - about 30 minutes from the ballpark in Downtown Reno. Google Maps/Suri took us straight there, no issues. Jim is AMAZING with his knowledge, story telling and enthusiasm. He is a true expert at his craft and we felt lucky to be able to spend time with him. This adventure is good for kids - our 13 year old thought it the most amazing thing in his life and now wants to find out all he can about these wonderful birds. Read the Trip Advisor reviews also for more tips - especially visiting the Animal Ark Sanctuary afterwards (just down the road). Tips: wear a hat, arrive early, plan on 2-3 hours so you aren't rushed, bring your snacks (no stores nearby), go to the bathroom ahead of time (Animal Sanctuary has a nice bathroom and entrance is free when you do a Rapture Adventure), put sunscreen on ahead of time (not good on your hands for the birds). We did the Introductory Session. You never leave sight of your car, so no need to pack a backpack. Bring a nice camera. Give yourself plenty of time so you are not rushed - you won't want to miss Jim's stories and he's likely going to spend more time with you then the advertised time for the tour. Amazing! Up close and personal with four awesome birds. Not looking at them thru cages or while a trainer held them. You and the bird her sitting on Your arm looking you right in the eyes. Being able to pet the birds and interact while Jim tells you what to do and encourages you to let you know your are doing great. Just holding the birds was fantastic but then getting to hunt with them. This is something that was reserved only for Royalty for hundreds of years. I can't discribe the feeling when you call the bird and she takes off flying right towards you than flairs and lands on your arm light as a feather. Very exciting! Jim was great we learned so much we didn't know about raptors. He has a passion for these birds and you can see he loves to share it. Annie Jims dog would run around scaring up jack rabbits for the hawk to chase. We scared up quit a few. There was a ten year old in our group who loves Raptors and Jim made sure to make this an amazing event for him. Jim makes everyone feel special and gives you an amazing event that is worth much more than he charges. If you are looking for a one of a kind experience! This will meet your needs. read more

We took our 12 year old son and friend here while vacationing in Graeagle. This was the absolute highlight of our trip. Both boys learned about falconry, were taught how to cut up the raw meat to use for training, and were then taught how to handle and fly the birds. It was a several hour, informative and interactive (and very fun) experience. Worth every cent! read more
