Rancho Leonaro is one of a number of fishing resorts on the East Cape. East side of the Cabo. These places are all fairly remote and good for fishing and solitude.
You are picked up at the airport in a AirConditioned van.
It is a hour ride up to the resort. First 40 on highway 1 last 15 or so on a dirt road. It was a comfortable trip. Might be more squirrelly in the rain.
At the end of the dirt road is a surprise: a fairly well appointed resort. This is not the Ritz. This is a nice fishing resort. Rooms are a B+ stone walls, palapa ceilings, good AC. There are no tvs or phones,l. However, in the rooms, WiFi is good enough to stream and cell phones work.
The dining area is open with a combo of indoor and outdoor seating. There is a small bar but it is low key.
Satellite Radio and TV. The pool is small and no swim up bar.
One of the great features of the isolation is nobody is pushing merchandise. There are a couple guys but they are not there all the time and are low key.
However, don't plan on driving to Cabo for a day visit. It is two hours each way.
The food is good. This is home style mexican. They are not winning Michelin stars but very authentic. Set dinner and lunch served. The latter is for non fisherman. Fishermen are given a series of sandwich choices.
Breakfast is made to order and just like mama makes.
Fishing: each night you will need to decide your plans for next day and let Eddie know. Ponga or cruiser. Pongas are cheaper and shorter range. On the windy days, they are shy about going to the game fish. The more expensive cruisers offer more range and comfort. If you have 3-4 people swing for a cruiser. Crews are knowledgeable and we got fish everyday. Look at the fish calendar and reports and make your decisions on booking times based on that. read more
