Two of us enjoyed a nice classic breakfast here on a recent roadtrip. It's a bit rustic, but both the ambience and the food are great!! Big portions!! The chicken fried steak was delicious and did I mention the big portions! Service was quick given how busy they were and both meals were fully enjoyed. According to Trip advisor this was the #4 best place to eat in Delta. The food was pretty good but the homemade fries needed more salt and to be cooked a little longer. The burger was good no complaints there. The fish and chips were as expected for a diner. The environment was interesting. The waitress' seemed to be friendly with the regulars but at one point one of them expressed loudly that she hopped a guy walking by just wanted a room and not to eat. I stopped here after a 4.5 hour spine-crushing drive from Lake Powell, AZ on my way to Ely, NV, another 2.5 in the distance. I really just needed to take a dump. McDonald's deserved it but I could tell by the Rancher's sign that the Rancher had the best breakfast in 100 miles or perhaps anywhere. And they did. The waitress reminded me of Flo from the old show Alice - if Flo were still alive in the present day. She asked what type of jam I wanted for my toast. I told her that I just wanted butter. She asked me again, imploring me to try the jam. I got the raspberry and she was not wrong to push me that way. I also had a cup of coffee which I do not usually do without whiskey. My nerves are scattershot as it is. But I needed to jump-start the bowels before the next leg to Ely. As I could feel the argument in my intestines come to a fever, I went to the men's room. You can see from the picture why my next review of Places I Stopped to Take a Dump didnt happen until Ely. If there were no need for a toilet stop, there would be no need for Delta, Utah. read more

It's better than sleeping in your truck and eating out of a can... ... but very bare bones room, door frame barely in place, door knob falling off, curtain rod fell down with huge, long curtain attached, mattresses from a surplus rodeo camp. Now the Café was busy with locals which is often a good sign in my experience, not to mention the servers were super friendly, but the food was low end to say the least: cold, limp fries, overcooked hamburger, and the pie was flavorless stock crust, with cheapest canned filling imaginable. This is a review for the cafe. The cafe is everything a small town cafe should be and more. I do not handout 5 start easily. We had two meals here. Both were great. Dining takes place early here. We had dinner at 5:30. If was prime rib night with the fixings. It was an excellent price. Good enough that the pretty much guaranteed overcooked meat (for my preference) that's not top quality was likely to disappoint me. Outside of no horseradish, and an odd looking surface, it was tasty. This is the one restaurant in town with a beer and wine license. We brought a bottle of nice wine from the home cellar. They had no issue serving it for us. It started with a clam chowder that was obviously prepared locally. The pieces of vegetable and potatoes were obviously hand cut. It was fresh tasting. The baked potato was perfectly cooked and loaded with butter and sour creat. The corn, while frozen, was prepared well. All of the servers were friendly. The salad bar was better than expected. The best part was the truly had made pies. We had lemon meringue. The crust perfect. It was not soggy on the bottom at all. It was big lemon flavors. The texture perfect. In the morning we came for breakfast. It was even better than dinner. The bacon was thick, flavorful, and well cooked. The sausage was not some sort of sweet jimmy deans. It was balanced and delicious. The has browns perfectly browned. The eggs properly cooked. I was able to get an english muffin. It was exactly what the chains promise, but never deliver. We're looking for another reason to spend a weekend in Delta as much so we can dine here as anywhere else. read more

I don't know quite what to say about this place. My husband and I had breakfast there and the huevos rancheros were really good, but I wouldn't go back. The place was just too grungy for my taste. For instance, my husband went to the restroom and said I probably should wait until we were somewhere else. Not a good sign for somewhere you are eating. The service was bad too, but that could be just a one-time thing. My recommendation is to go someplace cleaner. read more

I'm going to divide this into cafe review and motel review. Cafe: 2 stars. Ate dinner here because I was staying here. Staff was not masked, but wore masks and started using sanitizer everywhere once they saw me with a mask. That tells me "we only do this if you look liberal." When I dropped off the motel key the next morning, no server or (local) patron had a mask on at all. 1 star for safety. I had the chicken fried steak. The salad dressing came out of a giant tub. Pass. They then served a roll with a spot of jam. Someone said it was homemade, but I'm not convinced that it's storebought dough that's just baked to order. Don't know about the jam. It was decent. Finally, out came the steak. The shell was extra crispy and there was a ton of sauce covering the steak plus the mashed potatoes. That was good. It came with a side of canned green beans that I dumped in the extra sauce to make palatable. Room: 3 stars. I had a choice of downstairs or upstairs. Downstairs was missing random floor tiles, had a bulge of insulation in the bathroom. It did have a modern wall unit for heat/cold, though. So I went with upstairs. I fell in love with the quirky room and its strange layout dictated by the pitched roof. It had a floor heater and a wall mounted AC. I turned the AC on to fan mode and it blew warm enough to work with the heater. Perfect for me. The TV was stuck in a corner, the bed was under the pitched roof, the bathroom was missing a lot more random floor tiles than downstairs and I was greeted by a spider in the tub, but whatever. There were about 30 squares of toilet paper left and no soap anywhere. In retrospect, if I didn't love the strange upstairs room, this was at best 2 stars. Based on their response to COVID, I can't recommend them as being particularly careful or safe at other times. That's unfortunate, because I didn't hate being here at a 2 star level, but I need to tune this review to what I'd recommend to other people, and that's a "you should pass." read more

I didn't stay at the hotel, but second time in eating here. My Father seems to get great food, but last week the French dip sandwich was very bland with watery broth for the dip sauce. Disgusting! Tonight I got the fried chicken with country gravy. They basically took a frozen chicken patty and threw it on the grill which makes it very tough and unbeatable. The fries are so thick I had to return them to cook since they were so hard. Second time still hard. So didn't eat. This cafe is a throwback experience. And, if you are in the mood, it can be a good one. The setting is a bit tired and worn out...but the staff is genuinely pleasant, and the steady presence of locals gives the sense that some have been gathering here for years...if not decades. To the food. Breakfast was excellent, high fat, and old school. Like many, bacon is a "thing" for me...and their's was thick cut, perfectly crisp and delicious. Another highlight was their own-made jam. Dinner offered a "seafood special" that I lacked the courage to try. Staying in the middle of the road is easy with their menu...which is populated by diner dishes long-abandoned in more urban settings. Hamburger steak topped with mushrooms and onion, mashed potatoes, both covered in brown gravy. A wonderful dinner roll...an excuse to use more of their jam. A salad bar--limited, but with a couple of fresh options--came with dinner. (A table mate drew a blank stare from our server when inquiring about vegan options.) As a movie offered many years ago: "You ain't gonna get no 'nouvelle cuisine'...the food is hot, brown and plenty of it." read more

I recently stopped here for lunch while on a work-related voyage to glorious Millard County. The co-worker I was with wanted something that wasn't Mexican food, and this was the first thing we could find that fit the bill. It's your classic greasy spoon up in here, with the old school bar stools and booths and whatnot. Antique guns decorate the walls because of course they do. The service is quick and friendly and the prices are alarmingly reasonable. The menu has all of your diner favorites with a few Mexican options thrown in (Delta likes its Mexican food, it seems). My co-worker got the old standby, the cheeseburger and fries. I went with the two tacos and soup combination because I'm going to reward this place for knowing that tacos and soup are two of my favorite things and for having the foresight to put them together for me. The soup was chicken and rice (I could have also gotten clam chowder, but who can resist chicken and rice?) and I will not make the obvious rhyme. We'll just say it was super tasty, with its big chunks of chicken and appropriately salty broth. The tacos were definitely made with something like McCormick seasoning and therefore reminded me of my childhood, so I was in a happy place. My co-worker approved highly of his burger and let me have some fries, which were not super crispy but still good. If I ever find myself back in Delta, I'll most likely find myself back here. read more

Tried to book a room at about 10 am for the following night. Got put on hold for over ten minutes (I stuck it out) and was told they would call back if/when they figured out if they had an open room. I called back at around 4:30 pm and was told that they had no record of my earlier call, and they were now fully booked. Called around and found a room elsewhere. After 3 days camping in the desert I was looking forward to a tasty diner breakfast. This place satiated that desire for cooked food. The biscuits and gravy were close to the best I've had at a diner and the Denver omelet was better than I expected. The Spanish omelet was unique as were the hand cut fries, that was a first for my diner experience. I loved the fresh, homemade flavor of each of the meals we ordered. The fresh salsa and jam were both homemade, adding to the restaurants appeal. It does seem to be a local favorite. The service was a little slow, but we were not ignored and the lady waiting our table was very friendly and enjoyable. I appreciated being sat in the back room, as I was able to carry on a conversation with my family and it made the restroom easy to find We will definitely be back on our next trip to Delta! read more

I have been going to the rancher for a long time and have eaten most of not all of their menu items. They make wonderful burgers. I tell the people around me that they make the best double cheese in the USA but im probably wrong. All other food is good and their service is great but sometimes there is some lacking there. Often when I go in I see waitresses fighting and bickering in the background and you can tell they just are not happy. Good food. Jamie is a wonderful waitress. If youre dropping for a snack, get some cheesy fries with brown gravy. A good sharing dish. read more

When you are in Delta on a Sunday night there aren't many options. Food was standard cafe food. If you are a vegetarian keep driving. Had the fish and chips and a chicken salad. Fish was fish. About what you'd expect for fried fish. Fries were floppy like my mom use to make in the oven. Please turn up your fryer and cook your fries longer. Go down the street and go to McDonalds if you want better fries. Chicken in the salad was over cooked and dried out. Ranch dressing was good. The shake blender was broken. Waitress found out after scooping ice cream so she comped us the ice cream. Staff was pleasant. Other patrons were country folk. We had breakfast at the only place open for breakfast in Delta, UT, The Rancher Café. I think it used to be better a few years ago, (The guys I work with up here won't go to it anymore either). It was just OK my wife's pancakes were lightly blackened instead of golden brown. The sausage I had was really salty and the butter substitude they used to cook the eggs with had an off taste. The service was friendly and the place was reasonably clean. But it is the only breakfast place in town, except 7-11 or McDonalds.
