We arrived at The Ranch in the middle of the night (early morning hours?) with two teens, a dog, and the kind of road-weary optimism that says, "How bad could it be?" Turns out: not terrible, but not great either. The place has a kitschy charm--funky A-frames that look like they gave off "Cozy Cone" from Cars vibes. Sadly, the customer service was less Radiator Springs, more DMV. While my partner and I weighed one room or two, the owner cut in with: "...or sleep in your car. That's your choice." A masterclass in hospitality. The room smelled like a mix of mothballs and memories, and the sheets looked like someone had already had a full night's sleep in them--hair, dirt, the works. We ended up pulling blankets from the car and building a hygiene-safe zone on top of the bed. To her credit, she told us checkout was at 11 but said there was no rush. I appreciated that and the fact that she let us sleep past checkout. Still, between the attitude and the dirty bedding, I can't really recommend this place unless you're nostalgic for motel life and bring your own linens. read more

And if you have kids who have watched the animated movie Cars, they will instantly recognize that it looks like the Cozy Cone Motel in Radiator Springs! Heads-up: If you are looking for a luxury hotel with all of the modern amenities, this place is not for you. But if you are looking to visit and stay in a slice of American history, this place is for you! The rooms are quirky with loft areas, and there are even family A-frames, each with three queen-sized beds (which is a tight fit, but if you have kids, it's perfect). We LOVED the Ranch motel and will definitely stay here again!! The service is friendly and helpful- both over the phone and in person. The rooms are so cool and the kids loved staying in the loft! Beds were fine- clean and with a soft blanket underneath the typical motel comforter- and the water pressure in the bathroom was nice. The coffee maker in the bathroom is one step up from making instant coffee- but good enough to get one cup in us before finding a place to stop! After a long drive, we made sandwiches at the little table in the "family room" and enjoyed them on the couch while watching TV- perfect road trip dinner! read more

I and my family have stayed here periodically for something like 25 years. Most recently, I was on a business trip through Roseburg, and all of the lodgings there were full due to commencement and an athletic event in Eugene. I called the Ranch, and was told they had two left, so I reserved it and drove up. I learned that the ownership had changed. The older woman that used to operate it had gotten dementia and wasn't there any longer. The woman that was at the desk said that she and her husband had bought it. They appear to really put effort into it. Everything was very clean and neat. She was involved in the morning housekeeping with her staff. She was very pleasant. I wish them well. What can I say about the cabins that others haven't already said? They are unique. Looking out the back window at the grassy field in the morning is pleasant. I bought one of their repop Ranch Hotel keys, and a decal for my toolbox. There is a Lego build of one of their cabins in the main office. The price was reasonable. I will be back eventually. read more

We stayed at the Ranch Motel for only one night for a destination wedding. Such a unique motel with all of the rooms being their own A-Frame construction. I have seen this motel off of I-5 my entire life while traveling from Portland, OR to southern Oregon (Umpqua Valley), but never had a reason to stay there up until recently. The owners and staff were extremely friendly and hospitable. Our room (two double beds with a loft) was clean and very comfortable for our needs. Mini-fridge, microwave, flat-screen TV, and more. Walking distance to a couple of restaurants and gas stations which was very convenient. They are in the midst of renovating their rooms which look absolutely beautiful. Our room hadn't been renovated yet, but was still great! It a a rustic cabin type feel which was cozy. They were also extremely accommodating considering we had two Corgis in tow with us. It is NOT in Oakland, but rather Rice Hill. I was uneasy when I first saw that we appeared to be driving up to a truck stop right off the highway. Once we arrived, I was put at ease. We arrived kind of late (~8pm) and we were glad to hear that they had two "big rooms" still available. Big room is a queen bed downstairs and a queen bed upstairs in a loft style room *very cute* The front desk lady (Donna) was very efficient and assured me that the "big room" was actually cheaper than a standard room with the coupon found online. Not sure what all the rates are, but she was right. A BIG room with tax was $60 *thumbs up* The room is super cute and has a Yosemite Valley Lodge feel to it. It has a flat screen TV (limited direct TV channels), mini fridge and a microwave. Stocked with towels and mini coffee maker but, NO hair dryer. Yes you can hear freeway noise, but we turned on the room fan and it didn't keep us awake *thumbs up* I would stay here again and again on our Highway 5 trips *smiles* Pros: Donna provided OUTSTANDING Customer Service! Great little place, lots of character, accommodating and communicative owners (not a faceless franchise), and a good value. Double Queen A-frame is a really nice thing for two people traveling on a road trip splitting a room, as each person gets a little privacy due to a pleasantly functional loft design. As expected, things are "vintage" but everything is very clean and operational. Modest but well done and tasteful upgrades where they matter. Old construction and the a-frame design also means very quiet rooms! A surprisingly comfortable yet utilitarian design for a motel- with a little retro charm. Absolutely perfect for what it is, minutes from I5, and highly recommended as a great place to split a drive from Seattle to the SF Bay Area- or more- with a good night of sleep and a just enough personality to delight a weary traveler. read more

No hair dryers so be sure to bring your own. Larger A-Frames have an upstairs loft. Tiny fridge and microwave. No drawers or dresser. Hands down best place to stay between Eugene and Roseburg. Clean, unique rooms and super friendly service!! Oh and very affordable!! Plus there is the Ranch restuarant, a Dennys and the Pilot. There is another hotel next door that offers a pool but last time my cousin stayed there while visiting Grandma she was eaten up by bugs!! :( I try to stay here at the Ranch everytime Im in the area visiting family and need a place to stay. Great value!!This was such a cute room! Each room is an A-Frame cabin, built in the 40's. You definitely don't hear the people in the adjoining room, because the rooms aren't adjoined. The place definitely doesn't look like it's 40! years old. It was very clean, and comfortable, and cute. It has internet connection, flat-screen tv and a mini-fridge. The owners are very personable. My husband found this place and loved the look of it. And it turns out, it is also cheap! $50 including a pet fee. Sure, they have an old fashioned tv (not flat tv), room is a bit small, there is no closet, but it is clean and I like the fact we are not sharing walls with next door. A microwave, a fridge, an iron and ironing board, a desk and AC in the room. You do hear noise from the freeway, though. Oh, cows are roaming around right behind the motel, which is fun to watch. read more

We were on a road trip and needed a place to stay for one night. I found the Ranch Motel online and was instantly charmed by the A-frame units -- no shared walls!! The bathroom was sparkling clean, the sheets were nice, and the bed was comfy -- though the mattress is so thick and springy, it moves around a lot. You get a microwave, tv with cable, mini-mini-fridge, and a tiny coffee pot. We had a hearty dinner and breakfast at the related (diner-ish) lounge/restaurant. Nothing spectacular, but a nice place to stay for the night. One weird thing -- if you reserve a room, they charge you more than if you walk in with the online coupon. This place is great!!! I was needing a place for a few weeks - I have a cat & dog. Not many places will accept animals - and Donna said yes! YES!!! Finally - kinda out of the way - but it is right off the freeway! Easy access - truck stop across the street. Moved right in - they have a couple of different configurations - I ended up with one with a loft(bed upstairs & bed downstairs) - the cat loved zooming up & down the stairs!!! Burn that energy off!!! Small refrig, microwave, tv, heater & comfy bed!! The location & people made a difficult situation into an enjoyable experience! This was by far the worst motel I've ever booked. The non smoking room reeked of mildew and smoke. Then we turned on the heater. That was a mistake. Now it had the smell of burnt dust almost over powering the rest the smells. The toilet paper roll was almost gone and had poop on the side of it. The shower stall was dirty , full of mold , and hair. There was food crumbs all over the table and floor. The carpet was completely covered in stains and grime. They didn't change the sheets after the last person , they just remade the bed. Getting in bed you could feel the dirt all over the sheets and with closer inspection see hair all over it. Wish I would of looked closer before getting in. My kids shared a bed in the loft and where covered in little bug bites. Stay away from this motel. So gross. read more

We decided to stay at the ranch motel because it had decent reviews and nice pictures online..... humongous mistake! The truck stop with Adult Shop and video arcade at the highway exit should of been a sign to stay far far away. We were given a smoking room because they said that was all that was available. As we entered our room, a strong odor of recently lit cigarettes permeated the A-frame that slightly choked the life out of you. It was late and we had a long drive ahead of us the next day so we decided to make the best of it. When we loaded up the fridge with a couple of soft drinks we were surprised to find a half eaten bowl(with spoon) of what looked like chocolate ice cream in the freezer. Presently surprised to find a tv in the room, we reached for the remote which turned out to be covered in a white slimy substance. Yuck! I had to fall asleep with a damp washcloth over my face because my eyes were burning so badly from the cigarette smoke. Overjoyed by the glimmer of sunlight behind the curtains the next morning we realized we survived the night! This is hands down the worst hotel/motel experience we have ever had. Do yourself a favor and stay away from the Ranch Motel. read more

This place offers absolutely no room service whatsoever. If you are expecting any kind of room service at all, go to the Motel 6 next door. I had to vacuum our room myself. I had to ask for towels for us, and she just handed me one. I had to ask for another one because there are two of us. Our bathroom is full of used towels that they are not picking up. We also had to go to the office and request toilet paper when we ran out. We had to argue with the only staff member just to stay for the amount of time we payed for, and she insulted us and called us poor and that she couldn't afford to buy us a room.. before realizing we were actually payed for a week stay. Woopsy! Also, The bed tips over to the side when you put your weight on it. Incredible. read more

In the meantime, I suggest that prospective travelers go next door to the Motel 6 (if you need to stay at Rice Hill they do a passable job and are friendly) or go to just about any other motel between Roseburg & Eugene. The Ranch Motel is seriously not good. Because negative stars or ZERO stars are not possible, I cannot rate this place low enough. The folks next door at Motel 6 will get a 4 Star rating when I get around to writing their review. They are far from perfect, but MUCH better than the Ranch. read more

I stayed here 17 years ago when I was a pre teen while on a road trip with my family. I thought it would be great if my own kids got to stay there, so I booked one for the night so we could stay the night a little over half way through our trip from California to Oregon. I arrive to a locked door and a no vacancy sign. No one was at the counter at first, when they did let me in they told me that they wanted to give my room away because I didn't answer the phone when they called. I didn't answer my phone because I was driving through the mountains in the dark. This was at 8pm, who gives away a room that early?! After checking in she then said she could close up for the night, so I didn't bother to call the desk when men were talking loudly right outside. I was hoping it would be quieter than a regular motel, but so much for that. The next morning when using the sign, the pipes sprayed water all over my legs. I wouldn've complained at the desk, but I was too sick to care to. They need some professional management to make this motel great again! read more

This motel is an atrocity! I wish I could give it no stars or negative stars but I guess it's not permitted. This place is absolutely horrible and would never stay there again. My grandma was staying for the weekend and never had any maid service. There was mold in the bathroom. We are running a little late picking her up so of course they wouldn't let her hang out in her room for a bit nor help her with her stuff, even got her to the point she was in tears!!!... Customer service must not be something people at this motel offer. DONT STAY HERE! Call motel 6. Even though they cost a little more they were nice, friendly and NO MOLD!! read more

i love the cute cabins and for $35 a night this place is great. i have stay in place that charge $69 and there was no coffee maker in the room and none at reception. the ranch give you coffee, tea, fridge, microwave and a good range of channels on the TV. it also has a outdoor pool in the summer. all you need is in walking distance and these a restaurant and lounge next door to with good prices. the stuff were helpful in getting me more pillows and the wifi works well. for $35 a night you cant get better! read more

The front desk was nice when checked in. The individual A-frame room was nice, clean, clean, clean, and quiet. You don't have a shared wall with any other room. Yes, you can hear if someone is outside but it isn't too bad and everyone seemed to be in rooms and quiet by 11 pm when I stayed there last night. The microwave, mini fridge and little coffee maker were clean. This was one of the cleanest motels I have stayed in and that includes Holiday Inns, and some of the popular places in Las Vegas. Not sure why folks have belly ached about room service and other issues. The staff were polite and accommodating. No, there isn't room service. She can't leave the front desk area. If you want room service, go to the Hilton or some other vastly more expensive place to stay, somewhere else. The restaurant was great. Food good, fresh and hot. Waitress was nice and made sure my coffee cup stayed full. This is a great place to stay. I love that it is an older motel with its cute A-frame rooms and all in good shape. Oh, and plenty of hot water for a good hot bath after a long day on the road. Just a heads up, there are no blow dryers in this place. Don't forget your own. They do have an iron and board if you need to touch up anything though. They have a discount coupon on line. Make sure you print it up to give them when you check in. She can't give you the discount without it. Luckily, I printed it up and remembered to take it. read more
