In the morning, I let the innkeeper know the tow truck would come to get the car. I asked if I could purchase something for our breakfast since we only had snacks for dinner...She found some oranges and oatmeal. A half hour later, she and her husband arrived with hot plates loaded with pancakes, hash browns and sausage for us. What amazing generosity! It got us started on a positive note as we waited for a tow truck and wondered how we would get to our homes in Santa Cruz, CA. I highly recommend the inn and the people who operate it, too.

This is not a hotel it is a lodge and a retreat and its perfect. Fishing was unsurpassed. We caught and released over 120 fish the first day. The guide was perfect, his boat was clean and new. He was friendly and funny and he knew every hole along the river. He would say say see that rock and log, cast between them and we should get a couple of fish. We did and it was all day long. The fishing was so good we chose to stay another day to fish from shore. Fishing along the shore was also outstanding. Wecaught and released another 40 fish. Anyone will catch fish here. Meals were very good with severlal choices. Cost of meals was on the higher side. I have dreamed of fishing at The Big K Ranch for couple years. Again the entire experience was beyond my dreams. The sign in process was personable, friendly, and easy going. The "lobby" offers gifts, drinks, local nik naks and much more! Rik the owner initially showed us our room which was the terrapin station "Grateful Dead" room. He was kind enough to explain the inns and outs of certain things throughout the room such as the record player and taking off our shoes to maintain the wellness of the space. Once we were settled in he offered us a complimentary locally sourced beverage of our choice. During our stay we genuinely enjoyed every second of it. Outside This property is located on the Umpqua River. It's incredibly beautiful and natural and so peaceful. We observed an eagle not far from the house, and the elk herd a ways down the road. Shelley provided directions to a good spot to climb the sand dunes. I'm sorry we stayed for only one night. Daybreak Haven is an extremely pleasant place to visit, and if we head into Oregon again, I plan to book it for at least 2 nights.
