Since I like good food, I've also started some tries in creating some myself. One my latest endeavors was to make pasta. Not from a package, but self made by hand. It's a bit of work, but it's definitely worth it. Apart from the process to create it, there is a completely other issue to even start with: according to the specialists, pasta should be made with "hartweizen", or "durum wheat" or "macaroni wheat". Now try to get that in Vienna. For a normal price that is.
After half a day going from supermarket to supermarket, many of those of Turkish origins, I got the recommendation to check out this place. And I must say, what a delight it was! Frequently abroad, I'm more or less already used to stores like this where there is a plethora or foreign spices, sauces, at least 40 different sorts of rice and at least as many sorts of flour. No matter if you want to make Indian naan bread, or need curry paste, this is the right address. At the entrance you are greeted with various exotic scents, and you'll first see a display of fruits and vegetables that seems very alien. Upon closer inspection you will find here all kinds of delicious food that previously was pretty hard for me to get my hands on. As you venture further into this place, you will find all kinds of other specialities mainly from Asian origin. After browsing all different kinds of flour, I finally found my durum wheat, so my pasta production is saved.
The staff is very friendly, prices are perfectly fine. If you are looking for some more exotic ingredients, pay this place a visit. If you're more into local or European things, the Hannovermarkt is just around the corner. read more
