Instead of Tricks or Treats, it was all treats for me and JH this Halloween thanks to Incognito & Maysa being in town! We arrived around 8:30 after finding street parking. It was my first time visiting this location and it was packed since the show was sold out. Fortunately, we had assigned seats so I wasn't panicked. Spencer and KG were already seated when we arrived. In fact they were the first ones inside the venue, but that's a different story. We promptly ordered drinks and apps. Only the ladies were drinking that night; we ordered Riesling and our guys ordered soft drinks. I decided to try the Maryland cream of crab for starters. We also ordered the Chesapeake shrimp wrap and chicken sandwich, both came with house made chips. The wrap was big, I could only eat half. The band started playing shortly after 9 and I remembered why I was out on a school night. I absolutely love them. Aside from the delicious jazz/funk sounds, Incognito is all about inclusiveness, peace and love. DC native Deborah Bond and other gifted vocalists were performing with them prior to Maysa ripping the stage. Maysa's voice is still so deep, rich, and velvety smooth. She sung most of the crowd favorites like Deep Waters and Still a Friend of Mine. The acoustics are great, but seating is a little tight depending on where you land. We were sitting to the left of the stage. I had to resist the urge to sing along because I was rubbing elbows with a man who wasn't in our party. Can't assume everyone loves my singing. LOL. Two more friends were sitting behind us. Not sure of their view, but they enjoyed the show as well. To make the night even sweeter, we shared a slice of Key Lime pie which was really tasty. I will absolutely return to Rams Head as I enjoyed the intimate musical experience. Although the menu is limited inside this venue, the attached Tavern has a full menu plus they offer a 10% discount to ticket holders. read more

All the food is served in plastic plates. I happen to hang around after the concert was over and saw them just dumping everything in one trash bin, not even trying to separate plastic for recycling. The amount of plastic waist this place produces a night makes me sick. The water served was undrinkable and absolutely disgusting. Please invest in some water filters, plates and dishwasher. read more

On tip that CANNOT be overemphasized - view the seating chart and ensure you do NOT have a load bearing pillar between you and the stage - there are only a few - but if in your line of sight - it is intrusive and alters the experience negatively. read more

I'll start with the positives, because this venue has hope if they can make some changes. It's small, so if you're seeing an act you love it will be intimate. I also loved being able to order food and drinks at a concert. The crab dip was delicious. The staff was pleasant. That being said, I don't think I will be back! I paid a crazy amount of money to be up close at a Bret Michaels concert. I was literally two tables in front of the stage. As soon as the music started people rushed the stage and I suddenly had a large group of people crowded in front of me. Literally pushing me back. People that paid much less for seats all the way in the corners were closer than I was. The staff did absolutely nothing and security was non existent. This is one of the last places still going that one can find a decent mix of quality entertainment. Seating is a bit cramped and service is spotty but considering the trade off, it is more than worth it. In the past I have been to concerts here watching a variety of acts including Happy The Man and Jimmy Haha, amongst others. Good sound quality and most seating gives one a decent view of the performer. Recently just got to see Dick Dale here, who is pretty much a legend for his creation of the surf sound and his work with Fender. Great show. read more

Great little place to see your favorite live entertainment. 21 and over venue. My only complaint is that the way the room is set up, the stage has seating not only in front of it but (if you're on the stage) 90 degrees to the right as well, which means you have to sit sideways on your seat if you're in that area and you won't have the performer looking at you. I was seated in this area, though, and it was only a minor inconvenience. You may also have to sit with people you don't know (I can see this bothering some patrons). Came here to see Robert Glasper and Eric Benet on two separate occasions. The performances were great. The atmosphere was awesome and very intimate (the tables are so small you are literally sitting next to everyone). They have drink, appetizer and dessert specials everyday I guess. The drinks and desserts were impressive but I hope they change the layout. Great place to go for a night out in Annapolis. We parked in the parking lot across the street (no street parking). Buy tickets in advance so you can get seats close to the stage. read more

I think this would actually be a 3.5 star, but I'll give it 4 because of the live music, and that is always a plus.. Went to RH-On-Stage for a show for the first time last night, and came away fairly impressed. It is a wonderful site for a small, intimate performance. Pretty much from any table (yes, you get tables, not stadium seating) you have a decent view of the stage, and the artists look life size. The sound and service were fantastic, and the show I caught (Night Ranger-Acoustic) was amazing. There are a few cons admittedly. The first is Bar Pricing on drinks, but that is to be expected. The seating is a little crowded and tight - not quite as bad as sardines, but there isn't much room either (other than the aisles for the servers). Also, there are a number of poles (for building/ceiling support) but they can also obstruct the view from a number of seats. I think an experience here could range from 5 star (if you are quick enough to get center stage or at least an unobstructed view) to 3 (depending on how much your view is obstructed). All in all, it was an enjoyable place, and if there is an artist I like there, I'd go back again. The Performance package (done in conjunction with the RH Restaurant is worth it, as you get 10% off your meal, discounted parking at a particular garage, escorted to your seats (by the wait staff) and a beer after the show (if so inclined). read more

I went to Rams Head on Stage with a party of four to the Gin Blossoms early show on 1/15/13. The acoustics were great, but it was smaller than I thought with the seats and tables right on top of each other. There were several poles throughout the space that might conflict with the view here and there, but my group did not experience that problem. The show started at 6pm and the late show didn't start until 9pm, so I expected at least a two-hour show. The show barely made it to the one-hour, 10-minute mark. (The Gin Blossoms were obviously annoyed at the short time slot given.) I never would have paid $54 for that short of a concert. The main reason for my one-star rating is for the sheer lack of customer service. We arrived 15 minutes early so that we would have plenty of time to order dinner. I asked the woman who seated us if we could have a menu. She replied that she was the hostess and not a waitress. My mistake, I assumed that since she worked there, she could bring over a menu or ask a waitress to do so. A waiter finally came 30 minutes after we arrived and took our drink orders. I asked for a menu. Twenty minutes later, he returned with our drinks, but no menu. I asked again. Thirty minutes later he returned and asked if we had received a menu. At this point, I assumed the show was already half over (though soon realized it actually more than half way over, with only ten minutes left) and told him it was too late at this point to order. He agreed and left. The only thing the waiter was prompt about was bringing the bill for our drinks. He put everyone at our table on one bill, even though it was a table of six and we did not know the other party at our table. The other party did not have cash, so we just left them with more than enough cash and got out of there. I was starving! Rams Head on Stage advertises that you can enjoy dinner and drinks during their early show. This is impossible if you don't have a menu and the waiter doesn't take your order until the show is almost over. Everyone was ushered out right after the Gin Blossoms left the stage. Had the waiter actually brought me a menu with our drinks, it still wouldn't have been enough time to order the food and enjoy it before the show was over! As we were leaving, any tables that did manage to order dinner had to scarf it down. Not my idea of a nice evening of dinner and music. read more

3.5 stars It's not often that one gets to see a legend in concert, and even rarer to see one so close that you can reach out and touch the legend. No, I'm not reviewing the legend, but the venue that made this possible. I headed over to the Rams Head to see John Mayall. It was an 8 o'clock show, so I arrived around 7:30 and picked up my tickets at will call. Before I went into the concert area, I went to the ladies room in the restaurant; I mention this because the bathroom was very clean. Niiiice. I went to the concert area entrance, and the doorman took my ticket and handed me over to a hostess who showed me to my assigned seat. I was about three feet from the stage, in the second "row" of tables. I checked out the menu and waited in my uncomfortable chair for the waitress. Now, The Ol' Mangaretta hadn't eaten that day, so I was rather famished at 7:45 at night. I was disappointed that the menu was limited and didn't really have gluten-free options. Why would the venue have a limited menu when it's connected to a restaurant? Reluctantly, I ordered spinach dip. The dip was just okay and probably on par with TGIFridays--you know, edible but nothing spectacular. The show actually started almost on time, and the legendary Mayall and crew played for about an hour and 15 minutes. Mind you, there was only one show that night. Short show, Rams Head? Unfortunately, about 20 minutes into the show, Smelly Guy (what took you so long?) came and sat down next to me. Crap. I was hoping he'd forget the show was tonight and my nose would have a break. He kept breathing on me, too. Yes, the seating is that tight; otherwise, Smelly Guy wouldn't have bothered me or my nose very much, and I'd have been able to stretch my legs. The waitress checked on me once during the show and promptly brought me my check about 10 minutes before the show ended. I wanted another beverage, but didn't have a chance to order. It's not exactly the type of place where you can linger after the show. Overall, it was a decent concert experience, but not exactly how Rams Head says that it can be: a great, comfortable place to have dinner and drinks and enjoy shows. Rather, it's a cramped space where you might be lucky to have a great seat or a seat with an obstructed view from the posts, with average food from a severely limited menu, though the food comes from the restaurant. So, 3.5 stars for a clean concert space and surroundings, and polite staff, and minus 1.5 stars for a limited menu, spotty service, and tight spaces with partially obstructed views where you'll notice that you're sitting next to Smelly Guy. I wasn't sure what to expect with this venue... and from the second I walked in and found my way to my table, somewhat in the back corner... I wasn't disappointed! as the other reviewers have stated... there is not a bad seat in the house.. small intimate venues such as this are the absolute best for live music.. making your experience much more memorable... as you're able to connect with the performers since you are in close proximity.. I ordered an appetizer, a cocktail and dessert... all of which were decent.. nothing to rave rave rave about but good... and satisfying... all in all you're here for the music.. the fact that they offer dinner with shows is a plus... I wouldn't hesitate to return to Rams Head on Stage.... buy tickets early.. they sell out fast! read more

I went back last night for the Norman Brown concert and it was much, much better. There are still service issues but at least I didn't feel slighted or ignored. It took an hour to get Crab Dip and two Crab Cake (which were very good) and they were hot when I received them so that's a kitchen issue, not service. Iin terms of service, I had to stop a waitress to ask for silverware and appetizer plates and only received the silverware. I asked another waitress for the plates and was given PAPER plates. I had real silverware but one of my table mates was given a PLASTIC fork. So I was confused by that. I would've liked another drink but I didn't see my waitress again until she brought the check. Overall, I like the venue and the acts so I'll be back but I think I'll eat elsewhere before I get there. read more

Went to see Avery Sunshine. The seating was nice. I love the intimate setting. I also saw Brian Culbertson there. The wait staff was attentive, but it's difficult for them to serve during the performance. The only thing that I did notice is that the drinks are watered down. But all in all, it was a great experience and will go there again. read more

We came to see Tank for a late-night Friday performance. The pros: Small venue = intimate performance... awesome. Ticket prices are reasonable because its such an intimate performance. They had small bites and alcohol drinks to order during the show. We ate dinner before we arrived, but I found out you can get 10% off food at the Rams Head Tavern next door and free parking if you make reservations before the show. The cons: This place was way smaller than I thought... yes its a pro and a con. If its your first time ordering tickets... the "elevated/raised section" is literally take a step up and ...BAM you've arrived. Seating is by tables, so you will sit with people you don't know if your party is smaller than the number of seats at your table... *fingers crossed that you get friendly table partners. We did! Try to get there early and order your drinks and bites BEFORE the show starts... once everyone is seated it just gets hectic and service is slow. This venue takes advantage of space... so its a tight fit, and a waiter may block your view for a second, but its not unbearable. *in my Terminator voice....* I"LL BE BACK!! read more

Great venue! We were visiting from out of town and came across some tickets to see the legendary "Chuck Brown" and the show was fantastic! My only complaint was the drinks at the front bar were weak and their was a mix up with our tickets. After, turning our tickets over to the front door men, we were greeted by a host who verified the tickets and then told us to wait to be escorted to our seats. Somehow, they tried to pull a fast one on us. Apparently they gave someone else our seats, held their tickets until we presented ours and then trieid to seat us in their seats! The host says no, those are the tickets you gave me and holds up a pair of tickets. Mind you we had printed tickets onlie with our names on it. We would have gladly switched with the couple if they were comparable seats but the damn seats were in the back of the house and our tickets were front row! What the he'll were they smoking?? I mean really do people let you get away with that? Anyway, we resolved it :). One more thing, if your going for a show it's a great idea to arrive early so that you will have time to eat, chat and have drinks. I thought the service was slow but when you see the set--up, I guess they have it all figured out and have a back-up plan to ensure you don't miss the show. Other than that, i had a wonderful time! This is a great venue for small shows and acts. I really like that no matter where you sit, you've still got a great view of the stage. Food wise - the Ram's Head restaurant is pretty solid. It's nothing spectacular, but it's not bad either. Truthfully, there are better places to grab a bite to eat within walking distance, but they do offer a 10% discount on your meal if you're eating there and are waiting to see a show. I had the Shrimp Po-Boy, which is a bit different than what I am accustomed to from down along the Gulf Coast, but it was still pretty tasty. I think the shrimp could have used a bit more seasoning and they really loaded the sandwich down with a lot of cheese, which I wasn't all that thrilled about. You can't beat the outdoor patio seating though in the summertime. read more

This is a mixed review over to consecutive nights. This is a great, smallish room to see a concert, if you have an OK seat. We saw the band's backsides, but were very close. I'm not sure how good of an experience the folks at the far back of the room have. The beer was good, the food average, but not overpriced. The service, however, was incredibly poor the first night. The waiter basically asked us if we wanted something as we were sitting down (not kidding, and we were one of the first there), and then disappeared for 28 minutes. When he finally came back out of hiding, it looked like sat down to do a crossword puzzle. When I finally managed to get his attention, he seemed uninterested and didn't respond when I gave the order (no "OK" or "Got it" or "Anything else" - just a blank stare). Night two, the service was much better. The waitress was kind enough to make me an iced coffee when it's not on their menu (so simple - just pour some coffee over ice - I wanted caffeine, but not hot), and was much more attentive than the man the first night. I do like this venue, but it isn't without issues. read more

We enjoy this venue. Small, intimate. Make sure that you get a table that is not blocked by a pole. My honey loves their gin martini (she always catches a nice buzz from it). We rarely get food but we did get the veg wrap the other night and it was pretty good. I've had the root beer float in the past and it was good, too. I attended the Glen Phillips show on 3/31/17. This was the first time I had an experience at this venue that made me want to leave a review. Don't get me wrong, I have always loved rams head, but I have become accustomed to ordering 2 drinks at once, sometimes making a quick dash to the bar next door to get a drink, and to order tickets ahead of time. The sound, drinks, and food are always great, but I've accepted that meeting the needs of 250 people at once for a staff of maybe 10 must be difficult. The experience we had with this show however, was absolutely phenomenal. It started with the box office. I came in after I had gotten off work one day around 4pm and spoke with Kiera. She actually made a list of every spot in the venue where there were two seats together available, and took me into the venue and showed me the seats! She told me to take a seat and compare the views, and even told me her recommendation of what my options were. After I decided on which seats to buy, she told me I was eligible for a discounted dinner for the night of the show, which was something I had never heard of. Sure enough, she signed me up, and that night we got 10% off our dinner, discounted parking, and free drinks in the bar after the show. I bought my tickets weeks before the show and was surprised by how few were left. I asked how we could be put on a special list that got us first access to tickets and she explained to me that everyone gets access at the same time, but put me on the email list. She also told me tickets go on sale every Tuesday at noon, which is very useful information to know as I haven't seen it anywhere on their website. Sure enough, since then I have gotten an email every week telling me which tickets are going on sale. The night of the show we had dinner in the tavern via the premium on stage experience. Our server, Scott, was attentive, friendly, and knowledgeable. He helped my wife pick out which wine would be best for her, and even brought me a sample of their seasonal Chocolate Mint stout before I committed to buying a pint. It was excellent. Our food was tasty, I had the crab cake dinner, it was an enormous crab cake. We were waiting for a few minutes after we paid our bill, but then we were escorted to our seats in the venue!! We ordered desert and a coffee cocktail, cinnamon toast coffee (yum!) and had excellent service in the venue as well. Our water was constantly refilled, we were comfortable, and the sound was amazing!! To top it all off, the woman who helped me in the box office actually remembered me and came by and said hello during the intermission and asked how we were enjoying the show! After a few years of just enjoying rams head with its flaws, it's clear that there have been some changes that have taken it to the next level. I can't recommend this venue enough, there is no bad seat in the house and the staff is amazing. Not only that, but the talent that comes through is always wonderful. I can't applaud or thank the staff enough for the best night we have had in Annapolis! read more

The service at the show tonight was ABSOLUTELY non-existent. We spend a lot of money coming to shows here & tonight's server was the worst. We were seated at table 101. No one approached us for an order until over 30 minutes into the show. The server had to be flagged down, and was just not good. I was told over the phone that you must wear a mask to see Paula Poundstone December 18 at the 6 o'clock show. We had to show proof of vaccination and/or a Covid test so many hours before hand. Nobody checked any vaccination records when you walked through the door. Nobody was wearing a mask and that includes the staff and only a sprinkling of guests did. It was my mistake. I should've demanded my money back and left. But I wanted to see the show so I stayed. The waitress leaned head to head with me to take the order of the woman behind me who was literally 2 feet away from my chair. Of course I wore a mask the whole time but it was so I unrelaxing to know that nobody else was. My fault for staying. But your fault for lying to me on the phone and not caring that the virus right now is surging and hospitals are overwhelmed. You did not care about your staff as you did not require them to wear masks. You did not care about your patrons. There are too many places I can spend my money to see shows at. Again I am marking the ones I will go back to because they were Covid cautious and those that were careless. And I'm wondering if somebody in your establishment contacts Covid are you going to let the whole place know about it? Yeah right read more

When you go to a comedy show, you want to pay attention to the comic and not worry about your drink order, I guess the Rams Head doesn't agree with me on this. Having to send back drinks (I don't think a white russian should taste of licorice), bother the staff to get silverware, and sending back over cooked food made this visit unpleasant. The comedy show was great, though having seats off to the side of the stage was a bit odd (not sure why there are so many seats off to the side). It is a shame that poor table service will make me question whether I want to come back, I am thankful I actually had dinner before the show. If there is someone you really want to see here, go for it, but you might want to bring your own supplies when you go, the table service is close to self serve. read more

My feeling is that this music venue might be unsafe due to volume levels that I personally experienced. I love live music and would never want a place like this to be closed, however...., it is too small and too cramped for high volume shows and I would suggest being careful less you suffer hearing damage. This is one persons opinion, but it is based on my personal experience. read more

My only recommendation would be to get seats as close to the stage as possible, and definitely not anywhere near the doors; otherwise you end up having the wait staff and anyone who wants to use the bathroom walking in front of you every 30 seconds, and it ends up being really distracting in what would otherwise be a very intimate music venue. read more

I'm updating my review from earlier today. Ram's Head decided to cancel the show and reschedule, and refund if you can't come to the new date. I got a phone call and 3 emails so they are doing a great job of letting know about the cancellation. posted earlier today: Bought tickets on 8/24/14 to see a show tonight (3/5/15) - so you can see I was VERY interested in seeing this band! 13 inches of snow so far pretty much guarantees I won't be able to make it tonight (Plus I live 1 hr 20 mins away). I called to see if the show was still on and let them know I could not attend. They said it is on, it won't be canceled, and "sorry" I can't make it but they don't offer refunds unless the artist. I don't expect Ram's Head to refund people who found better things to do but schools, businesses, and even the government shut down today due to the hazardous weather conditions. Not getting a refund or credit for inclement weather guarantees I won't be visiting this venue in the future. I'm out $75.90. Just a warning that winter shows might not be the best to purchase in advance, maybe wait to buy tix at the door. read more

I hate this place. It's in the seating. Either you can't see or you are so close you feel like you should offer the band your beer. It's a terrible layout. Nothing like taking a bite of your dinner and thinking the bassist is going to step in your dinner plate. It's just awkward. If you're not on top of the band, there's a pole in your way and you can't see and the room is so tight there is no way to move around it. And they are very anal about people standing even when the band asks. I see music that elicits dancing...not sitting; the band will ask us to stand for the encore, but staff will come around and request you to be seated again. read more

THE GOOD: - Good opportunity to see great talent close-up and intimately at a reasonable price. - Parking nearby - Responsive to inquiries regarding upcoming talent. THE BAD: - Sound engineering rarely gets it right. Too often the sound of the band is so loud and offensive that you can't hear the singers. Louder is not always better and definitely not necessary for such a small venue. - If you don't get a seat facing the front of the stage, you will be viewing the side of the stage and side or rear of performers. - The menu is the worse and no matter how many times patrons have complained over the years, little improvement so eat before you come and prepare for items to be not available, cold or the kitchen equipment out of order. No idea why they cant just have a typical good bar menu of quality foods. - Too often the performance is half way through before the drink and food items arrive so make your first order count. read more

As a local Annapolis musician and music lover I'm thrilled to have this venue in town - I've played the club and had a positive experience each time. I attended the Duke Ellington tribute last week and the band was great - we moved over near the sound booth to get a better perspective on the band and noticed the sound man was very inattentive to the show - lots of different musicians soloing need sound reinforcement they were not getting. I realized the "sound engineer" was deeply ensconced in an iPhone video game clearly to the detriment of the overall sound. He was not thrilled about my pointing out he was being paid to enhance the audio(though he did seem to push the faders a bit more often after that) As a musician, I was saddened that this young man was so dismissive of his job and having worked in clubs over many years, unfortunately I've found this is not an unusual occurrence. Hopefully management will take note of this and be sure their house engineer does a better job than what we observed during this show - the musicians and paying customers deserve it. read more

Nice venue. A bit cramped but, the seating allows for you to see the stage pretty well from any angle. We saw Bootsy Collins there recently (Bootsy actually came out to the audience and tried to get close to everyone/hence a small venue has it's benefits)and have seen Johnny Winter there as well. (4/5/2016) The performance was very good, probably the band a little dampened by the venue (and they said as much many times). It's like seeing a rock band in a dinner theater. Space is intimate, but you're seated (very tightly) at shared tables of 4-6 people. Standing is not really encouraged since you'll block your fellow table mates. Waitstaff wander (and obstruct) throughout the show and people are dining and drinking during. I would say the venue is worth it if the performer is low key/mellow (or used to a seated audience) and you can get a table that is in front of the stage (sections 100-500). All other sections are perpendicular or to the rear of the stage. NOTE on lighting and sound at Rams Head On Stage, the seating is low, as is the ceiling, spotlights can shine directly into your eyeballs, sound system (or the operator) had problems with balance, some low feedback on the bass through out. This review is totally dependent on your seating. The room is a long rectangle. If you are seated in front of the stage (about 1/3 of the room), you will have a great view of the show. If you are in the other 2/3 of the room, you -- like us -- may never even see the performers. My wife went to the ladies room about an hour into the show and came back all excited saying about the band, "They're really here! I just saw them!" The food is great and the service is good, but the seating is a total ripoff for 2/3 of the audience. If you can't get seats in front of the stage, don't go! read more
