A food critic was there, too, so we got to watch him evaluate his meal. Of course, he was speaking in German but our friend translated for us. He even took our picture while we were there, too! The food was magnificent. I know there are millions of versions of macaroni and cheese but the Appenzeller cheese on my daughter's mac was superb. We dream about it, even though we haven't been there for almost five years now! The sunset was beautiful, the setting unique,and I would highly recommend this place to you. When I arrived, the staff was really friendly and accommodating to my English-only speech skills and even gave me an English menu. They had a special daily menu that included a veal roast... with a guy wheeling a cart around that served up the veal roast with mushroom sauce, carrots, and polenta. The decor was really nice and the food was beautifully presented and tasted delicious. I ordered the veggie salad, thinking it was a garden salad, but it was actually a yummy antipasto of cooked veggies, including pumpkin, artichokes, and slices of Parmesan cheese. To try something new, I got the pumpkin strudel as my main dish. It came in a lovely flaky pastry filled with ricotta cheese, and you could really taste the amaretto in the sauce. My friend got the meatballs with rosemary gravy and leek mashed potatoes. I tried one of the meatballs, and it was tender and juicy. Prices are typical for Zürich. Dinner for two, including starters, main dishes, shared bottle of water, and 4 glasses of red wine (French Syrah Cuvée 2008, Château Haut-Blanville, Côteaux du Languedoc) came out to CHF 125.

I didn' expext the Älpler Makkaroni to be as good as in the Swiss Alps (it's a traditional dish from the mountaineous regions of Switzerland) because we are in Zürich. In my opinion, the dish was very tasteless and looked as it comes out of the box (convenience). The price was over the top, 27 Swiss Franc. The soup was for sure not a convenience product but was tasteless nevertheless. I know Zürich is an expensive place, but in many restaurants you get at least good quality. Would I recomende restarant "Le Muh" in Swissotel Zürich Oerlikon: No definitively not. Save your money. There are plenty of good restaurants nearby.
