Not too bad for a ramen joint that also serves Thai food in a little resorty town with only a few other options! I'm not sure I've ever been in a Japanese+Thai restaurant that does either cuisine total justice, and Ramen Tekapo didn't get all the way there either, but it fed me a filling and satisfying dinner anyway.
The dining room is the epitome of serve yourself, with all the utensils, spices, water, etc piled on a table in the middle for you to fetch, which I kind of enjoyed. I grabbed my shichimi togarashi and my ramen ladle and prepared.
We ordered edamame and tonkotsu ramen. The edamame was honestly pretty bad, overboiled and even rotten in a few places. But the ramen broth was garlicky, thick, and rich, and the egg was even boiled nice and soft and orange. While the noodles were a bit spaghetti-like for my tastes, I know this is a personal preference thing (everyone goes nuts for Shin-sen-gumi and their noodles are 100% spaghetti). The pork was nice and tender - I wish there had been more. Spinach in place of seaweed was a little weird, but not a dealbreaker, though I did miss the wood ear mushrooms. read more
