Some staff are nice and some obvious rude enough, the Indian waiter delivered the wrong dish to my friend who can't speak english. 10 min later the waiter found his error and came to our table and criticized to my friend why didn't you tell me that's not you ordered! The way he speaks is a real a bluff and tried to put the mistakes on my friend, the funny thing is my friend ordered a stone fillet and he delivered a stone steak, how can he find the difference with those two? It's very common and understandable such error occurred, what we angry about is how this Indian waiter deal with it, the dish didn't replaced at last and that wasn't a pleasant experience in tekapo!

This is the "the challenge" from the hot stone menu. It was enough to share with two and delicious.

Stopped in here for a quick lunch. Staff was friendly, great beer on tap. I had the classic cheese burger. Bun was fresh and burger was pretty damn good. The view of the lake out back is amazing.

good lightings

Not bad but also not really impressive. Not a ton of choices in the small town. Tried the rump steak which was just so so. Staff are nice.

We walked thoughts bar side with a lot of people and a commotion going on. We found out it was horse racing. We worked our way to the dining room side where it was not busy and finally someone showed us a table with menus. Our server was very nice but was managing the dining orders plus the bar side. She definitely needed help. We started with shoestring fries and an Apple Cider on tap. I ordered the Beef Cheeks and my husband ordered the Pasta Carbonara as entrees. They were both really good. My beef was so tender that I cleaned my place . I'm glad we hiked today.

Servers were friendly, knowledgeable, and efficient; food came quickly, and the place had a great, social vibe. There's a lively pool table in the bar area. You know it's good when the classy locals hang at the bar (as opposed to the local who's drunk at 1:00pm on a Monday and hitting on the waitress...which we witnessed at another place in Fox). My wife loved that the whole place was warm. Good, free WiFi. And delicious dessert!!

Staying in Methven, as a pit-stop along our journey, we researched, 'what is there to do', &…read morelearned about the history of the Blue Pub vs the Brown Pub. Two iconic, historical buildings located across the street from each other, with an Oak Peace Tree in the middle, Methvan locals encourage visitors to try a pint at each, and decide 'which you prefer'. Two beers? Two local experiences? Sign me up! We started our experience at the Brown Pub which, true to its ambiance, has no yelp profile. Then we wandered over to the Blue Pub, for something completely different. The Brown Pub, described to us as historically hosting farmers-after long work days-gave us the vibes of introverts who just want peace, quiet, and a beer after a long-hard work day- complete with slot machines inside, smoking stations, and a small backyard dog-friendly grassed picnic table area. They had a good variety of drafts, bottles, and to-go beers. The Blue Pub, described to us as historically, 'where the party is at'-gave us a busier vibe, packed with larger groups inside and outside and live music playing. Another good variety, of completely different draft and bottled beers, slightly higher priced than the Brown Pub. Both pubs offer food. We enjoyed both experiences equally, as they allowed us to get glimpses into Methvan lifestyles. I highly recommend grabbing a pint at each!

They said during ski season it gets packed since they're close to the popular Mount Hutt for skiing, otherwise it's mostly locals and folks passing through. My chicken burger was pretty good - fried chicken, bacon, brie, beets, lettuce, mayo, and a toasted bun. A unique combo for sure, but I dug it. Blue Pub is also a hostel/lodge and the rooms are upstairs. You check-in IN the pub and one of the servers will proceed to give you a key and a tour. I stayed here for the night and couldn't complain. The room was basic: twin bed, heater, clothes rack. Bathrooms and showers are shared and coed. Walls are thin, but I still slept like a baby. WiFi is free in both the pub and hostel, but you need a little voucher with a code to login. It runs out after 200mb, so you'll need a few vouchers if you want WiFi for several hours (just ask and they're happy to give you a stack). Overall a really cool, unique spot in this tiny town of Methven. Highly recommended!

We tried the bait fish omelette appetizer. It was amazing with the mayo sauce on it. Actually not so great without it. For our mains, we had the bangers and mash and the pork ribs. I would recommend the bangers and mash, but not the pork ribs. They were dried out, overly drenched in sauce on a bed of french fries. The french fries were fine, but not my favorite type and became soggy quickly with all the barbecue sauce. I definitely would not order the ribs again. For dessert we had the sticky pudding and it was excellent. A good variety of wine and beer choices. We recommend the Alice May export gold beer and the Villa Maria Pinot Noir.

We had the pan roasted chicken breast and the bangers and mash. The chicken breast was really, really dry and tough. I loved the abundance of accompanying vegetables though. Taste was average. The venison bangers were better. Not too gamey. Service was a little inefficient. The servers didn't have assigned tables. We had about 4 different servers helping us at various times. They were all really nice but seemed to be running around helping whomever they see.

Cleavers Corner is a new and modern gastro pub which has recently opened on West Street in…read moreAshburton, Christchurch. You enter either from the main corner door, or one of the side window doors, where a server greets you. The uniform here appears to be black trousers and a denim shirt, which is certainly an unusual look, but that's their style. The layout, like many Ashburton and Christchurch table-service eateries (bakeries don't count, they're literally everywhere... sometimes you want more than a cheese roll!), is a large open square room with tables dotted around, no breaking up the space or layout. This can be a bit of a shame if you would like a little privacy or a quieter area to sit, as everyone is basically in the same area. However, it's modern, bright, and clean, which is good enough for me. We're handed the menus and told about the specials, as a bottle of water for the table is placed between us. The menu is simple but tasty food, focusing on fresh ingredients and quality. For our starters, we order pan fried dumplings, seared tuna, salt and pepper calamari, and a bread and dip selection. The food arrived well presented, and looked extremely appealing. The quality and presentation was excellent, and all of the party enjoyed their starters. The bread in particular was a generous amount, with delicious fresh dips and balsamic vinegar with oil. For our mains, we ordered the beer battered catch of the day (which on this day was red snapper), chicken breast, and pork ribs. The mains, like the starters, arrived in good time. The atmosphere at Cleavers' is friendly, social, and relaxed, so it was pleasant to simply enjoy your company whilst waiting for your food. The mains were again excellently presented, and very generous portions! The red snapper was tasty but subtle, and although the batter was perfectly crisp, tasting the fish on its own gave it a different flavour, which was pleasant. The chips were perfectly cooked, and a generous bowl of salad also provided. I did ask for vinegar, it being a classic British staple to have salt and vinegar with fish and chips, and they obliged a little while later by bringing out a small dish of what at first we thought was balsamic vinegar (if malt vinegar isn't popular, it's no shame to not have it commonly available), but it turned out to be a good strong malt vinegar, which after decanting it over my meal with a knife and fork to sort of... flick it over the fish and chips... worked well. The bacon wrapped chicken breast was juicy and excellently flavoured, with tasty flavourful potato cubes in accompaniment. The ribs came on a giant chopping board, which I'd normally consider a bit of a gimmick, but in this instance it seems practical. They were perfectly glazed/sauced, with great flavour. The portions were so big that we didn't even have room for a dessert, but those looked great too. If you live near Ashburton or Christchurch, it's worth a visit. There's loads of free parking nearby, the food is tasty, and the service is friendly and casual.
