The discovery of great Ramen venues in Brisbane shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone. Obviously, our continent is located in the Asia Pacific - Oceania even - but we have missed out, at least in some suburban capitals, on the introduction of Asian cooking styles where the immigrant population swerved in a more southern skew to Sydney and Melbourne and set-up their woks: enter Brisbane. Today, in 2017, we have numerous Ramen bars open around the city and "Ramen on Grey" is a stand out. Their Ramen choices are simple - pork, chicken, vegetable - but their broths and composition of ingredients are outstanding. My favourite is the Spicy Miso Pork Ramen which has just the right amount of heat, an array of delicious veggies, the obligatory boiled half-egg, shredded Nori, delicate Pork Mince and a broth that is simply moreish. There's also a Condiment Box with roasted sesame seeds, soy sauce, salt, chili powder, chili oil and more to rev-up the flavour, but I've never found a need to. Certainly, there are plenty of other Ramen venues around Brisbane but if you're in South Brisbane and want the best, the choice is clear, if not Ramen on Grey. Enjoy! read more
