Having watched the Great British Menu, we decided to try out the restaurant run by Charlie Lakin…read more It has a beautiful dining room, not too crowded but with a very good atmosphere. We had the rabbit (with douglas fir) and the pigs trotters to start. We loved the pigs trotters, they came with fried quails eggs and were delicious. The rabbit was very interesting and came both as a pate and smoked. We both had the beef, which was superb. It fell apart and was tasty and tender. The vegetables were cooked to perfection, with a gorgeous wild garlic mash and some of the best mushrooms I have ever tasted. The cheese board looked amazing, and they were kind enough to let us sample a piece of Lancashire Bomb cheddar, which was superb! It was a very busy (Thursday) night and the staff were obviously kept pretty occupied, but they still managed to be attentive (they noticed that our table wobbled and fixed it immediately) and very knowledgable. Would definitely go back!

The service was the perfect mix of semi-formal, friendly and attentive. The food was exactly what you want in fine dining. It was plated beautifully, had interesting flavor/texture combinations and tasted delicious. I recommend the lobster and crab salad, the rabbit and the lovely cheese cart. Attire: Business Casual to Dressy. I wore dress pants, a nice top and heels.

The location is great; very short walk into the center of town. There were a total of 3 heaters in the room (1 of which is in the bathroom). It was very chilly when I arrived, and it was so nice to thaw out in a warm space. My room - the Victoria - was quite spacious and had very lovely artwork along the walls. Cute little couch, too. There is a small "lounge" with a computer and mini fridge. We didn't have breakfast, so I can't comment on the food. Wi-fi is available in the lounge, but the owner said it's availability in the rooms varied depending on location in the house. Our connection was pretty good on the ground floor. We had stayed 3 days at a neighboring B&B (Number One Guest House) and the difference was night & day. Churchill was superior in every way. Bit more expensive, but worth it. The reason for 3 stars is simply the bed. All I felt were the metal springs. So uncomfortable, creaky, and sloping toward the center. Whether an establishment is a hotel, B&B, guesthouse, etc. I feel the most important aspect is the bed. We're here to spend the night, yes? Then let's not keep using mattresses when they are years past their expiration date. Maybe the beds in the other rooms were better? I can only hope. Note on payment: Their website says Paypal is accepted, but upon arrival we were told cash only. Check out time is 10AM. Overall, I would recommend, but check the mattress before committing to a room. If they do upgrade the beds, I'd be happy to come back and update my rating to 5 stars :)

Check in can take forever and likely rooms will not be available early so don't plan on arriving early and having a room ready. Suitcases were basically taking up the entire small lobby. The elevator is tiny so be aware. If you want to eat at the restaurant make sure to make a reservation ahead of time because otherwise it will either be full OR they will tell you no that you can't eat here without one. The rooms are clean which is most important to me. Wonderful views of the beach and white cliffs from our room balcony. The cruise terminal is walk-able if you don't have mobility issues but it isn't super close so make sure to order a taxi well in advance.

The bar fish n chips was better than I had in Scotland or in Northern England. I highly recommend. Don't get the burger it was meh. The buffet breakfast that came with our room was delicious. Classic English breakfast with scrambled eggs, thick pork sausage, ham, hash brown, beans, mushrooms and fried tomatoes. Good coffee and plenty of pastries. Everyone that worked in hotel, restaurant and bar treated us very well. Good customer service.

Ask for Karina…read more About a month ago we went to this establishment for the first time in about a year, we used to go a lot more but they discontinued the Friday night buffet and the service had always varied somewhat on occasion and the floor was sticky. But it was cheap good food and loads of it. Thus we were ever so pleased to find that this fine establishment had really transformed. The place was incredibly well managed, the wait for our food was only about 5 minutes to which a well co-ordinated team of young staff quickly and discretely laid all our food. Having been a waiter once myself I do detest when an establishment overbears a youngster with too many plates. Our Hostess Karina was brilliant. She truly made the evening wonderful. She obviously had the place under control and running like clockwork, its so nice to speak to staff who you can completely trust with your order within seconds of meeting them and Karina is certainly that. The food may I say was brilliant authentic British cuisine, everything an Englishmen wants when he enters a pub/ restaurant. They labelled the spicy stuff which thankfully was only a couple of options. Obviously I went for the fish and chips which was marvellous. The barman knew my cocktail order straight away and was as quick with my order. Good to see a young man shaven & not covered in tattoos and silly ear things. Parking is brilliant, plenty of space and you can sit right by the window and watch your pride and joy while chatting with the otherhalf. Toilets clean and luxurious. Brilliant all round. 5 stars!!!!
