The leather strap on a 20-year old Coach purse had cracked and was hanging by a thread. $12 and an almost invisible stitch later, it's as good as new. Couldn't be happier. Great work. Strongest recommendation! read more

My daughter had a pair of shoes she loved and literally wore them until the heels fell off. They were pretty beat up but they were expensive and hard to replace so we searched for a shoe repair shop. She found one but they couldn't salvage the shoes. Then I remembered Ralph's! They used to be located in Southdale Center but moved to a new location off Crosstown and Penn. When I picked up the shoes they had new heels and insoles and looked like new. Ralph's really did come to the rescue! Customer service at times can be a little lacking but they are honest and tell you up front if your shoes are worth repairing or not. Just one tip though...don't lose that green ticket you fill out when you pay for your shoes. You'll need it to retrieve your shoes when they're ready for pick up. read more

The guy who owns this shop is Ralph's son, or at least son of the previous owner. Cobblers these days are hard to come by, the hours are long and there's so much demand they're always overworked. I am grateful this guy has continued the family business because he is a WEALTH of knowledge. He shares his vast knowledge, and his insight, advice and suggestions are priceless. He says it like it is and tells you what repairs are worth investing in and what are not. I appreciate that! He is right every time. He can seem a little gruff at times, but once you realize that's just his personality and not to take it personally, all is well. He is not expensive, but instead medium priced and worth every penny. Too rich for my blood! Over $150 for two new soles and heel pads? Please. I had this same thing done at a store in Bloomington for $26 and they did a great job. I'll be heading to Bloomington for future jobs. Be sure to ask about pricing first. The guy that works is a little crabby and not the friendliest dude. I'd like to feel a little better about spending that kind of money. Being nice and customer service oriented would make it a little easier to swallow but not by much. read more

Nice little shop. They helped repair my old backpack, which was literally coming apart at the seems. It's was $23 to fix the backpack, but it was almost $50 new. So, I'm okay with the price to fix it. The fix was really well done. You couldn't really even tell from the outside that anything ever was messed up. You could see that patch on the inside, but who cares. The fix looked pretty well done, so I imagine it will hold for a while. Update 6/7/16 Used fixed backpack for an entire month while in Europe. If performed amazingly well. I had it filled with a ton pf very heavy crap. The fix job that was done at Ralph's showed no signs of any deterioration at all. I am very happy that I went here to get my backpack fixed. read more

RALPH ( the Father and original founder of the shop) RON ( Ralph's son ) BILL Roase, ( Ron's son and Ralph's grandson) for more than 60 yrs !! MY Fine Things are now "antiques" & "collectibles" in the designer arena. Roland Cartier,Bruno Magli, Weitzman, Gucci ,Blahnik, Jack Rogers, Chanel, Andrew Geller, Salvatore Ferragamo, Alterto Fermani, Margaret Jerrold, Elsa Schiaparelli,Prada,Tod's, some LouisV and others..were hand made back in THE DAY, not mass manufactured like now.. I was enroute to MSP from NYC, the heel of my boot had cracked; a very dapper-elderly gentleman, with an Italian accent was sitting across from me-notice-my issue and he said,"once you get to MSP, take your boot to Ralph's Shoes, trust me, "they were sent from heaven, they will take very good care of you" AND, that is just what I did! AND, I have been going there ever since AND, I have sending people there, from where ever I "was"... There's this 'inside joke' with Ron, about my Ferragamo-Vara-style shoe, he knows I have LOTS of new ones in boxes, that I have purchased, on sale, over the years, (because I would take the "new shoes" into the shop and show them the comparison of the lamb leathers over the years), but I would continue to take my original ones, from 1960, to them for new soles and a buffing; one day Ron said, to me with a huge smile, "Katherine, you need to wear some of your new "gamos" and at least break them in, and give you original shoes 'a rest' .. " Here it is August of 2018, and I just handed Bill ( the grandson ) my original,1960, Black lambskin Vara-Ferragamo shoes for their !st new heel and a set of souls. THEY Look brand new ! Quick Story,I had loaned out 2-of designer bags to a gal, to attend at hi-brow event in D.C. When she FINALLY return them, they were a mess; I took them right over to The Blessed-gifted hand of The Roase Men.. at Ralph's Shoes. .. when they looked at my 2-bags, each one said, almost in tandem, "Katherine, these are not your bags, when did you get these ?" I replied," these are MY bags, I loaned them to a gal, and this is what she returned! I know they are my bags, because I have the serial number and I put a hidden mark, right here ( showing them the mark) The Roase Eyes and Hands knew I never had bags looking like this; they took the bags, told me they were going to have to say a prayer while "doing their thing" and we'll hope for the best.. My Bags looked perfect.. Never Again did I ever loan any of my things out again. On another trip to NYC, I was standing at the corner of 57th and Madison Ave, and I over heard this lady talking about her zipper on bag was not closing correctly, she was going to MSP to visit and did not have time to get repaired, there in NYC.. I said," I AM from MSP, when you arrive in MSP, you take your bag right over to Ralph's Shoe Shop, tell them that I sent you there, and "they will take excellent care of your bag and you, trust me." (Her bag was an old Hermes,she told me, it was her mother's) The lady, from NYC, arrived in MSP, she did go to Ralph's with her bag Ron and Bill listened, to her as she showed them what was "up" with her bag; not only did they fixed the zipper in her bag, they buffed the leather and they showed her where they repaired the stitching it in places where the threads had worn and at the stress points. The lady was just overwhelmed when they showed her the bag.. She was blown away with their professional craftsmanship and their comforting welcome.. she has mailed her things to Ralph's from wherever she is.. I do not and can NOT understand some reviews from "these people" who say.. Bill is a grumpy ole man. That their work does not hold up.. That they charge way-too much.. HAVE any of these people EVER tried to repair a zipper in a bag Put on a new sole on a shoe. Dye old shoes to-their original color Stitch a belt, make it shorter and look perfect Repair a piece of luggage... AW... I did not think so.. The 3 - Generations of Roase Men at Ralph's Shoe Repair have truly been Blessed by God, through their faith and with their professional hands, that are able to wok their magic and keep our SOULS solid. FOR all of the folks out-there, who have been to your shop for years, those who still come, ( like me) and those who just wander in or directed to go come to your shop... and they do not write a review,, I JUST DID FOR ALL OF YOU... Well you would think I would learn...I see back in 2015 I stopped in and had a bad experience (saw my own review) and today made a call about getting some Ugg boots repaired. The guy that works there is very rude. I went in and was looking for a particular color of shoelace and the guy was just crabby and jerky. He offered to try to get the color in I was looking for but when it was done he didn't say anything like "Thanks for coming in" or "Stop back in a week" - it was just dead silence. Great repairs on broken purses and sandals. For many years, this place has been the most reliable shoe repair shop around, and they do great work on repairs that seem impossible. Prices are fair, and shoes/purses look better when you pick them up than they did when you dropped them off. They did a great repair on an expensive leather purse with a broken handle, and have repaired several pairs of sandals with broken back straps. Ralph is especially good at reinforcing where straps are connected. read more

I have relied on Ralph's for more than 30 years. They do great work and you can count on them to be fair and honest every time with everyone. I stopped in yesterday with a broken suitcase handle. I wanted to have a pair of boots stretched and I didn't even know if they could BE stretched. When I asked he said "I put him on the stretcher for 3 days and you get what you get. Everything is paid in advance." It was only $10 and he's conveniently located so I let him stretch them, but I felt like I was bothering him. He was the same way when I picked them up. I won't be returning - I'd rather drive out of my way for someone who treats me like a customer. read more
