Poor quality garments for a high price…read more A seam came apart on the coat I bought at Mina's. After the seam was opened I could see that none of the seams were reinforced or overlocked, and the allowances were too small. I tried to return it, and showed Mina construction. Mina blamed me for ripping the coat, because it was too small. Three weeks earlier when she wanted the sale she told me how well the coat fit me, and how good it looked. When asking to return it, Mina argued that she does not take returns even if the item was poorly made, because nothing she sells is poorly made. She claimed that all seams in the US are small and showed me the construction on a sweater with overlock seams to prove her point. When I told her that the construction of an unlined sweater can't be compared to that of a lined coat, she rushed to the desk to answer the phone even though there was another sales person in the store. To quote Mina "This is not a department store. We don't take returns." Most reputable small businesses and educated consumers know that mass produced, novelty coats made in China have inconsistent quality control. It's hard to believe that in the 25 years Mina claims to be in business, that she has not learned this. But I've learned not to shop at Mina's.

But this day - a Saturday afternoon - before going into Ben's Chili Bowl which is directly across the street from the boutique I caught the traffic light and ran across the street and into the boutique. It's small and quaint, with a relaxing and welcoming vibe and I was immediately greeted upon entering by the associate behind the counter. She gave me the run down about the fashions and sales. This boutique has some really beautiful well-made clothes - very unique in designs and styles. So I made my way to the back where the sale's rack was; always on the lookout for a sale. I bought a pair of suede crop pant with embroidered design around the waist and styled with studs on the outside seams and pockets. Sounds busy but they are baaaaad; not too much but just enough to pair with a blazer, shirt, sweater or jacket. If you're a fashionista with a unique sense of style and taste in clothes, cat walk your way to the C.A.T. WALK Boutique. What you won't find is a piece that everybody else is buying/wearing; rather you'll find something that's unique to you and your style.

I think what happens is that I mindlessly walk through here as I use it as a passageway. I need to start paying attention to what is in here and keep note of it. Basically this is a mall. Like every mall just about everywhere, they are without some businesses. But, I will say this about the DMV area, even with some shops being empty, the malls still know how to draw people in. Even if it is just for the food options. This place has a ton of food options and some of the places in here are the only place in DC to find them, or at least a place where it is fairly easy to get to in order to visit the business. They got the run of the chains you would see in almost any food court. Charleys, Five Guys, Jamba Juice, Moe's, Panda Express, Starbucks, Subway, etc. But there are a lot of mom and pop stands mixed in. You can definitely find something for your lunch or a quick snack. This is one of the only places I have seen a Church's Chicken in the city. It can be a maze walking through here, especially if you arrive via Metro. But like I said, it is a great passageway to get yourself to areas without having to be outside. With the Spy Museum on the one end it's a great place to spend a day in the city. The Wharf not too far either. There are a few shops throughout as well. Mostly open during daylight hours if you need to grab a thing or two. Everything from a post office to a convenience type store. If you are lucky enough to work nearby, I am sure this is busy around the lunchtime hour.

If you're staying at the Hilton, there's a direct connection to it from the hotel. So this place is helpful because it has several fast food options. Nothing to rave about, but when you're traveling access to quick, fast food is important. Many food places either seemed always closed when I went a few times or open at inconsistent times. The place also never seems busy. Kinda ghost town-ish. Panda Express seemed to be the main attraction here. All together tho, it was clean. I think the space has potential to be a more useful shopping space for people.

They have a solid collection of sneakers and usually carry Jordan releases (definitely check ahead for drop dates). I was debating on what to grab, and the staff gave me great recommendations. I actually came back on a different day for a sneaker drop no regrets at all. So happy I found this gem. :) And the funny part? When someone asks where I got my shoes from and I say "Somewhere," it sounds like I'm gatekeeping but I'm literally telling the truth. Genius branding if you ask me. lol Since I was already there, I had to try one of their seasonal matcha drinks: CARAMEL BUTTER MATCHA - $8.50 I ordered it with oat milk. The blend was smooth and well-balanced. I personally would've loved it just a tad sweeter, but honestly, no complaints. It was still really good. The staff? Super helpful, friendly, and just a whole vibe. The energy in there is welcoming and cool without being overwhelming. They also sell merch, which feels very intentional and on-brand not just random pieces thrown in. Speaking of branding, I LOVE the name and the decor. It's clean, spacious, and aesthetically pleasing. And that blue bag? So fire. Definitely giving Nipsey blue vibes This is one of those spots I'll be back to whether it's for a sneaker drop or a matcha fix.

Majority of Navy Yard is populated with local chains, and SOMEWHERE offered something unique. BLUE MATCHA - 8 I think this is just milk + spirulina (don't think there's actually matcha in here, but maybe there was so little of it that I couldn't tell). Either way, it was disappointing. It tasted like blue-colored whole milk with a slight "sea umami" flavor from the spirulina. Definitely not worth how much I paid for in terms of quality and quantity.

Not that I was set on purchasing anything specific but if someone would have engaged, I might have spent some time here. Every time I have visited, security was at the front and always greeted us and held the door open. Another visit was around Christmas time and I was there to purchase a gift for my mom. It was super busy and all the associates were busy assisting other customers so we browsed around first. Not long after, we were offered assistance. I informed the associate of the items I was looking at and she immediately retrieved the items. She then offered us waters. I wanted to check on a bag that I purchased for myself to see if they still have that bag, to which our associate took the time to look at my account, located the bag, and informed me they no longer make that bag. I finally decided on the item to purchase for my mother and our associate went to the back to properly wrap the present. That process took a lot longer than expected but I am sure it was due to several customers requesting the same.
