Weeks later, there has been complete radio silence. No call, no email, no follow up. I even called myself to check on the status and was told someone would get back to me that same day. Nobody ever did. It's honestly surprising how little effort was made to follow through with a potential customer who was ready to move forward ASAP. If you're too busy to take on new work, just say that upfront instead of wasting people's time. Very disappointing experience and I'll be taking my business elsewhere.

I'd like to share my experience with North State Fence in Lillington, North Carolina. A few years ago, we were wanting to get a puppy. We knew that our large yard would be perfect for her to run around and play, but we needed to comply with HOA regulations for our fence. We wanted to enclose the entire yard. After spending a considerable amount of time researching local fence companies, we decided North State Fence was the one. There are several reasons we made this decision. The company is woman owned AND they support the Veteran community. As a woman Veteran owned business myself I was happy when the owner Nancie Brengle offered to have a consultation with us and see if they were a good fit. Boy where they! They came out for a site visit, and the planning began. Their pricing was fair and responsiveness outstanding. Soon, our fence was installed without any issues. Perfect match to the HOA requirements in fact, North State took care of the permitting too. Secondly, they stayed on quote and everything was done without any concerns. Now fast forward 4 years. We wanted a pool. We had a problem. Our dog would be in it 24/7. We had to produce a solution. Sure enough, a call to Nancie and everyone was on board with adding approximately 85 feet of fence with a gate! GREAT solution! Our new fence enclosed the pool off, allowing us complete control. We separated the yard with this fence, and she still has plenty of run/play around area. In addition, they switched out the opening direction the outer gates to comply with Town of Fuquay pool code. They also added 3 locks, 1 on each gate. They did all this for a tremendously good price and got us on the schedule quickly. With the many contractors we had to deal with on so many details, it was great not to have to worry about our fence. We highly recommend Nancie, Mark, Colby and the install team for their expertise, patience and most importantly ease to work with. Could not be happier! Need a fence? I needed a new fence for the backyard so I researched local companies. The first had great reviews…read morebut their quote was much higher than expected. The next company quoted a very low price (almost half of the first) which made me leery. Then I contacted North State Fence Builders. Their quote was higher than the cheapest but, not by much. Their reviews were also fantastic and they had an A+ rating with the BBB so I chose them. I'm glad I did. It's a family owned business and they don't contract the work out which seems to be the main cause of bad reviews with other companies. They came out for measurements and told me how they handle installations which made me feel like they knew what they were doing. They also handled the permitting process with the town. They came out yesterday with 4 workers and, in 7 hours, removed the old fence and installed a beautiful, new 330' fence. I asked for a little extra work to insure my 2 dogs can't dig under and they gladly did it for me. I gave the workers a good tip for a job well done. I'll have them back in a couple of months to stain the wood for me. Overall, I couldn't be happier and can HIGHLY recommend them to anyone.

The crew was top notch when they came out and were able to complete the job on the same day so that we can enjoy the freedom of letting our dog out in peace. We did have a slight miscommunication with the crew on the direction of how we wanted the gate to swing, but thankfully Jay was willing to work with us and have the crew come back out to resolve that for us. I sent the list and received a reply from James Frye stating that he'd price out the items and send me a quote. Monday (11/7): I sent an email reply to James thanking him and expressing that I was looking forward to doing business. I was honestly expecting the estimate Monday morning, and sent the email as a bump/reminder. Wednesday (11/9): Morning...Called and spoke with Jennifer on the phone. She advised that Mr. Frye was out of the office, but that he would be back shortly and would call me back at that time. Wednesday (11/9): Afternoon... Sent James a follow-up email explaining that I was ready to purchase the materials as soon as he got the quote over to me. ...no response Thursday (11/10): Called and spoke to Jennifer again, and she said that Mr. Frye was not at his desk, but he would call me back shortly. She also added that if he was unable to call back, she would call me back herself. ...no call-back from James or Jennifer. Friday (11/11): Morning...Called and spoke to Jennifer yet again. This time, Mr. Frye was on a conference call, and could not be bothered. She remembered that I had called several times before, and again said that if Mr. Frye could not get back to me, she would call me back herself. ...no call-back (big surprise) Friday (11/11): Afternoon...Called and spoke to Anne. She informed me that Mr. Frye was busy doing estimates and could not be bothered to take my call. After informing her that I needed the quote by day-end, she said that would not be possible as Mr. Frye was on his way to the beach (clearly lying about him doing estimates). At that point I asked her to inform Mr. Frye that he'd no longer need to bother himself with the quote, as I'd be seeking business elsewhere. Excuses and lies are all I got from this company. Disregarded calls and email follow-ups are a huge red flag.

I would leave zero stars if I could. I met with the salesperson who was very knowledgeable and…read morefriendly, and I thought that it was great that they would deal with the HOA stuff for me, and there was a warranty on the fence for both product and craftsmanship. However, I was told it'd be "around 3 weeks." I needed a new fence asap for safety reasons, etc. I got the money for the down payment and would have sent it immediately, but you are either charged 3% extra if you use a credit card (understandable), or you have to pay in cash or check. As I just moved here, I didn't have checks from the new bank yet and so that delayed me getting the down payment to them, but he told me he understood the situation and would put my name on the board so I would be in the lineup. I got the checks 5 days later; the person didn't respond for another 5 days and it was another 4 days before they came to pick up the check. Later on, I was blamed for the timing on when the downpayment was received. I was still assured that I was on the board and ready to go. Communication was nonexistent. 4 weeks went by and I was reaching out and not getting any response about what date I was scheduled for. I was given condescending replies when I did get an answer and it was a constant fight to get answers. I was given excuse after excuse after excuse. Waiting for materials, rain, guys got heat stroke, etc. After 7 weeks of waiting and I was STILL NOT given an exact date but had now 3 times been given an "around this week" with no one coming or information on anything but simply excuses when I asked what was happening, I gave up and requested a refund of my down payment (for which I then had to demand 3 times and wait for the return of the check), and I went with a different fencer altogether. It was awful and terrible communication. They did not once give me a date still after 7 weeks of waiting. No apologies for poor service, poor communication, or anything. They additionally lied about the warranty, because when I asked about land settling they said it was covered by the craftsmanship warranty and they'd fix it if it was a problem (one of the reasons I had originally decided to go with them because they acknowledged that it could happen in new construction homes). But, then they said later on that that was not covered in the craftsmanship warranty. It was an absolutely terrible experience and I have now found out that I'm not the only one. Stay away.
