Appetizer sampler: artichoke dip and chips, southwestern egg rolls, cheese curds, fried onions, chicken strips and dipping sauces

We enjoyed our lunch today. We had a short wait for the food, the server was friendly and attentive, and the food and drinks tasted good. However, I feel the portions were small for the price we paid. Since we ordered drinks from the bar, we did get a free take home glass.

AMAZING! WOW! NOSTALGIA! A trip to the rainforest cafe will be the scratch to that itch you've been feeling lately. If your life has just been feeling a little off, this place is the cure. Back in the day you would come here for the fun vibes and theme. Now, you can come here and enjoy those vibes paired with a good meal and drink!

We were excited to celebrate Easter with the bunny at this popular spot, our party included 8 individuals, but our experience was extremely disappointing. Despite requesting a dairy-free option for a member of our party, the scrambled eggs and French toast contained dairy. When discussed with The waitress, she said she would go to the kitchen to see if they could whip up a couple of eggs. Once all the food came out, we asked for the plain eggs and again the waitress scurried off, only for another woman to come to our table. I assume that she was the manager and she simply told our family member that she could eat the potatoes, sausage, and biscuits that were already on the table, no other eggs would be prepared. We let it go so not to ruin the breakfast. The event included a raffle for the kids. While we were eating we heard that one of the numbers pulled belong to the child in our group, since we were eating, a waiter happened to be at our table and told us that he would go claim the prize for the child. A few minutes passed and the waiter hadn't returned. The child's father got up and went to claim the prize only to be told that it had already been given away, despite of us having the winning ticket. No attempts were made to remedy the situation and left the child completely sadden. Completely mishandled. Needless to say that we were completely disappointed by the experience. The food was subpar, served cold, the French toast was burnt. We're given three tiny plates of fruit. All together I don't think you could complete an orange if you wanted to - not even enough for one slice for each person in our group, 3-4 grapes and 3 tiny bite size muffins. As you can imagine, we dropped a good amount of money, not factoring in the photos that were purchased and the items bought in the store. We drove almost an hour from Chicago to gurnee in the pouring rain only have a negative experience. Will definitely not be returning. Save your money, go somewhere else, other places have much better service / experience.

Always love coming here! My nephew adores the animals and loves the shlushees. We always love coming here and it's a great time!

Shrimp taste too old and steak hard to eat !

Food was ok my kids didn't like the steak, it was too chewy to eat. Coconut shrimp taste too old. My fish tacos wasn't bad.. I'm not going back again because you can get way better food from other restaurants, for the price I paid.

AMAZING experience!! Went here with my little ones and they loved it. They loved the animals-said it reminded them of the five nights at Freddy's animatronics and their therian selves which they admire. Service was amazing and they had a ton of fun. Food was outstanding and reasonably priced. Atmosphere was perfect--giving a nice forest themed ambience which is unexpected for a restaurant. 10/10 would definitely come again!

Boring Beyond Burger ... no flavor

My daughter had a gift card from her bday for Build-A-Bear, and after multiple times of being sidetracked, I knew we weren't going to be home in time for lunch. I saw that Gurnee Mills still hosts a Rainforest Cafe, and was super excited to share the experience I was robbed of as a child (half kidding). Well, whomp whomp ... Rainforest Cafe was something made of MAGIC in the 1990's and early 2000's and unfortunately, 1999 is exactly where this cafe has stayed. The animatronics are outdated, and the quality of sound was absolute trash. I'm shocked this location survived over the Chicago location. There are ZERO fish in the giant tanks, where they have giant fake green stalks, and have increased the bubble flow to try to hide the fact that the tanks are now empty and boring. The food is also nothing to write home about. The kids mac and cheese is such a weird texture and had zero flavor. I ordered a lame burger with fries, and the cost is still $3 to upgrade to a plant based burger which gave me a good giggle, as this menu clearly hasn't been updated since the 2000's. The dishes look like an average American plated dish and are BORING. The plates are worn, the seats are worn, but the staff continued to fake it until they made it the entire time. Props for hiring a good team, but that's the only place where I can give Rainforest Cafe in Gurnee any props.

This jungle-themed chain continues to weather challenges that led to the closing of several of its locations. The spectacular theme park-style décor replete with animatronics, though dated, continues to attract families with children. Not recognized for serious dining or an innovative kitchen, the chain continues to focus on comfort food and family faves. Menu prices seem fairly steep for food quality that's often perceived as ho-hum. Customers seem to come more for the experience than the chow. If only (parent company) Landry's would provide a seriously upgraded menu with better value ... Gurnee Mills and its immediate surroundings offer no fine dining, so in truth there's little competition. But, hey, the food here is actually not bad! My Missus and I visited for a weekday lunch with several friends. So, we walk into a completely EMPTY restaurant and the hostess greets us curtly with, "Do you have a reservation?" Gimme a break! [Note to the manager: Please instruct your hostesses to say, "Welcome to Rainforest Café! How many in your party?"] Things actually went fine once we were seated. Our server (they call 'em "safari guides") was helpful, efficient and witty. The Missus and I ordered Blue Mountain chicken sandwiches, and our companions feasted on burgers, fish n' chips, and shrimp tacos. The kitchen overlooked a special request and had to remake one of the items; apart from that error, our meals were quite fine. Here, you feel like you're on vacation. We never tire of the thunderstorm effects and the flapping elephant ears. Before or after the meal, it's always fun to browse in the adjoining gift shop with its many unique items.

My husband knows that nothing cheers me up quite like a hokey, gimmicky restaurant like Rainforest Cafe! He took me here on Monday when we were having a hard day. I had the coconut shrimp with rice and veggies. Some of you may not know that I really dislike green beans. Luckily, they were mixed with onions and mushrooms I could pick out. But the cocktail was the real star of the show here. The strawberry mojito was absolutely wonderful. Not bad at all for a big chain restaurant and we had a good time!

We came in as a large group. We had called a few days ahead. At first they were going to make us order off a special menu and have it served family style. This was not going to work for us. Thankfully the manager approved us ordering off the regular menu. When it was time they were running behind. I think we ended up being seated about 30 minutes late. Not a huge deal. We had 2 servers for a group and they did a great job keeping everything organized and getting to the correct person. Sometimes refills were a little slow but wasn't a big deal. We knew we were a lot! Overall food tasted great. My chicken on my sandwich was a little overcooked but that was a lot of food to organize and bring out at the same time. My youngest daughter said her spaghetti was amazing. And everyone else seemed to enjoy their food. I was expecting the 18% automatic tip with our party size but I was not happy with the additional 4% banquette fee we were given. And $4 for a soda that only costs a few cents seemed a little excessive. Overall the experience was good. Not sure we'd spend the money again anytime soon to go. But maybe for another special occasion.

Dont get me wrong- it has GREAT meat/bun flavor to it- just too many little things that went wrong…read moreduring my visit (not staff fault! They were great and friendly and I did not mention or complain about the lack of customizations to them nor did I complain about the onions- i did not say a word when trying to figure out kikosk (or tablet whatever you call it) Kikosk ordering at the counter- It would not allow me to add sauce on side. There was no description of what it was so was confusing when ordered at first. The menu/kikosk doesnt say what kind of sauce- drives me crazy when there is no clear definition for people who are picky or cant have certain items in their food. My shake did not come with whipped cream unlike pictures or social media feeds. Fountain drink was flat to my disappointment so got refunded for that only and went with water. Clean taste. Burger has great potential but if they are not allowing us to customize it to our own preference it will fail in this location. Lack of toppings to my dismay- When I got my burger with the sauce cheese and grilled onions, it looked good at first glance. When I bit into the grilled onions it was not tender/soft it was like eating stringy rope with the burger yanking it out with my teeth . Sauce wasnt memoriable for me. Still have no idea what it consisted of even few days later. Again Bun/meat was delish driving me on eating the burger. Fries were ok- nothing to write home about. Not coming back though until they improve on some areas. This is too expensive for the mistakes/lack of customization/options for a picky person like me. If it was signifcantly less in cost I would have let it slide and bring home plain burgers and customize it at home. But this was a HUGE bucket list for me being open minded about what went on my burger (I usually ask for plain with certain toppings only) Best of luck to this establishment!
