Whenever we come in town we stop by this cafe to get a slice of her chocolate cake. It's so soft and tender and the frosting isn't too sweet. It's just the perfect chocolate cake. My husband and I stopped in on Black Friday after visiting the Reedy Falls area. It was busy but the folks there were awesome and a seat opened up. We were seated at a table with some amazing art! After perusing the menu, we ordered a few things: Mozzarella sticks, I got tomato soup with a side of cream, and a grilled cheese with bacon sandwich. My husband got something that had horseradish sauce and beef. Everything was absolutely amazing. The flavours were delicious! Everything was fresh and flavourful. And while the tomato Soho's texture wasn't for me, the flavour was spot on! When we visit family and find ourselves in the Greenville area, we will visit again! read more

If you are looking for a fabulous scoop of chicken salad in the downtown area, look no further. My oldest daughter is a fool for pimento cheese and was delighted with the myriad of offerings on the menu. My husband however was less than enthusiastic about the Cuban. It seemed like a bbq forward Cuban which wasn't his cup of tea. And speaking of tea, the sweet tea did not disappoint. The restaurant was eclectic and homey at the same time. All in all, I paid $15 for something that would be considered a modest portion even if it was on a children's menu. I asked for a larger serving, and they told me what I received was normal. Came across this lounge on Yelp one Friday night in Greenville and decided to stop by. Both Yelp and Google showed they were closed, but glad I called because they were open until midnight. They have a guy at the door checking IDs because it is 21+. They also have a strict dress code and enforce it. No shorts, no caps, no ripped jeans, no athletic wear... The ambiance is really nice. They have high top tables on one side and couches and leather chairs on the other/middle. Tons of artwork line the walls. They have great live music; usually jazz, r&b/soul. And the drinks are good. If you want an intimate night out, Rainer's is the place to be. read more

Two words - Beanie Weenies. I literally ordered this because of the name and wow I was hooked. It's essentially baked beans and with hot dog slices but it was so good! Rainer's is located towards West End of downtown Greenville and it's a great casual place to have lunch or grab a dessert. My fiance and I went here for lunch and I ordered the turkey reuben which was fantastic. My fiance always goes for the Beef Dip Sandwich with au jus sauce. They have a dessert display of enticing Brick Street Cafe cakes, pies from Buttermilk Sky Pie and a variety of cheesecakes. The service is always very friendly and welcoming! My only critique is that it took almost 30 minutes after ordering one time for our lunch to come out and there were only two other groups in the restaurant. However if you're only looking to get dessert, just step right up to the counter and grab a slice of deliciousness. read more

After hearing the great music, my thought was that if this place was in NYC it would be 'standing room only'. Rainer's is cool, dimly lit, with eclectic art lining the walls, serving mixed drinks, beer and wine, light bites and desserts. There's only 45 seats which include some high tops, some tables, and cozy chairs. Such a great place to stop in, enjoy a cocktail, peruse the unique sculptures, and relax to some great music. One of a kind. This place has a beautiful vibe and gorgeous art all over the brick walls. You can taste just how fresh the food is and I swear just how much love it's cooked with. I've had the tomato soup there twice now and it's delightful. I appreciate a soup in the south that doesn't have cream and is still so delicious! Another favorite is the chicken salad...or any salad. Just WOW. You can tell the chef puts so much care into the cuisine. Alik was our server and he was running the place like a pro. It was quite busy and he was doing it all with a smile-to go orders, checkout and waiting on an almost completely full restaurant. Driving through Greenville, we stopped downtown on July 4, so I could show my friend the river park (which is lovely btw). Almost everything was closed because of the holiday, so we went to the first place we found that was open. What a great find! Very casual, sandwiches and salads. Very nice wait staff. I ordered the Cuban sandwich, and it was awesome. And they had a broccoli salad side, which I love. TERRIBLE! Arrived for lunch at noon. Was seated promptly and the waiter was very attentive. After a few moments, my friends, and I placed our order for lunch. After looking over the menu, we noticed many things were unavailable. I ordered a half salad and a cup of soup. The soup was bland and didn't taste right to me. Nor did it taste correct to my friend who ordered the same cup of soup. After a small taste, both of us decided to return the soup. It was not to our liking and it didn't taste right. we both returned it and asked to replace it with something different. The waiter returned to inform us he could not replace it with something else. In the end, we were each billed for the soup. I was shocked. In all my experience, I have never had this happen to me before. Very rarely would I ever complain about an item. But I have in the past and was quickly taken care of by management. This was a horrible experience. Gave it another try, had the Cuban sandwich with side of potato salad. A Cuban has ham, pulled pork, sweet pickles, and should have a savory sauce to contrast the sweet pickles. But this sandwich had a Rainiers sauce that also was sweet. Sweet on sweet was too sweet. I like onions, but the potato salad had way too much onion in it such that it dominated the dish. It's been awhile since I've been here .... a lot has changed as I can see. They have new management ,Matthew doesn't work here anymore. They have changed a lot of items on their menu. ( especially the recipes ) prices have gone up for less food! Staff is not as friendly as they used to be . It's not our favorite place to eat anymore . Things here have change . The food isn't as tasty , you used to get a lot of food for great prices. The desserts seems like you pay a lot more for less. This cafe used to be cell phone free . It's not anymore the man sitting next to use was loud and on speaker phone the whole time we were there . I thought it was just rude ! I had to ask for drink refills the whole time I was there! We were excited to listen to the blues band for my birthday last night. We got there at 9:00 when the band started. The doorman (bouncer?) wouldn't let us in. He said they were waiting for the special tables to be filled before he would let us in. He asked us to wait until around 9:15-9:30. Not cool Rainer's. First of all, we shouldn't have been turned away like second rate customers. Second, it was in the 40's last night and he's asking us to stand outside for a half an hour. A huge disappointment. A gem of a place. These folks are quietly very competent. Seriously, the restaurant doesn't blare any music and bans the use of cell phones to play music or videos. Except for the chatter of satisfied customers, Rainer's is a culinary oasis in downtown Greenville. Sophia and I both enjoy the Stepped Up Salad. Salads are judged by the freshness of the ingredients, especially the greens. The lettuces here are always first quality. There are so many tasty ingredients in this salad, including carrots, mushrooms, broccoli, peppers, tomato, cheese, cucumbers, let alone numerous types of greens. Delicious! I personally also judge restaurants by the quality of its iced tea. Rainer's iced tea is exceptional. Note to restaurant owners - if you want to experience what iced tea is supposed to taste like and how it is properly served, pay a visit to Rainer's. Am I a fan of Rainer's? You bet. The friendliness of the staff, the cleanliness of the place, the quality, presentation and diversity of the food - heck, the restaurant even smells good!! THE ENTIRE RESTAURANT WAS EMPTY and i sat at a table that said for 2 or more (by the window) I thought i was Told to sit there and some lady runs over to let me know i am not allowed to sit there. Family and friends had a delightful evening at the bar last night. Bartender Candy is attentive to customers. Both she and the manager were engaging with customers. They made excellent drink suggestions. Short list of bar food but each item is well prepared. This place is a jewel hide-away offering live music featuring jazz and blues. We had intent on purchasing food to dine in with and was rudely refused service simply because we had outside food. First time I've ever been refused service anywhere. I have only eaten here once and the sandwich (Cuban) and potato salad was very good. Wait staff was professional and courteous. What I didn't like is that they have signs everywhere stating to take phone calls outside. So I have to ignore an incoming call or get up in the middle of my meal to take the call. What is the difference in talking to another person at the table or talking to someone on the phone? This isn't a library where silence is needed. A business trying to push their person ideas and wishes on a customer. Sadly, I won't be back. read more
