We saw Every Christmas Story Ever Told (and then some) at Centre Stage today. Audience participation was encouraged! An intimate theater with about 100 seats. No bad views. Concession stand has beer, wine, soda, water and snacks at reasonable prices. Concession stand takes cash card and tap payment. You can do both paper and digital tickets. Walkers are stored in a secure area during the show, but are accessible if needed. read more

Breaking Up is Hard to Do was my first play at Centre Stage. We had great seats although the small personal theatre has no bad seats. The actors were so talented and the music was fun and took me back to the good old days where you sing along (Neil Sedaka). The bar has a good variety of drinks and cocktails that you can take inside the theatre. Take cash. There was a sign on the bar where we came in saying the first 10 people to post a selfie on Facebook with their logo in background would receive a free drink. We posted and got free drinks. Centre Stage is a great community theatre with a wonderful line up of shows coming up this season. I will definitely go back. Such an enjoyable evening. read more

We love centre stage. Have been many times and will continue. Tonight we saw " Night, mother" . The acting was good but it was difficult to hear. I love this venue! Every seat is a good seat. The place is small but puts on a big great show each time. It can be a little hard to find on your first go, the entrance is in the back of the building. I've seen 4 different shows and loved them all. The cast acts and sings great. The costumes are well thought out. The decor and set designs are flexible with switching walls and lighting. The lighting is colorful and bright, and the audio is loud enough to enjoy but never too loud. The people who run the place always take the time to help me with my seats, ordering wine and snacks, and adjustments to my ticket orders. You will have fun, you'll laugh, and you may cry, all around wonderful. read more

Local artist really shine here. I have visited many times and truly believe there is no bad seat in the house. My Mom and I recently watched the performance of jingle all the way. It was an awesome way to get into the holiday spirit. I really enjoyed the different skits. My favorite were the men's ensemble performing their rendition of the Macho Man featuring Amazon prime and the elf of the shelf was fantastic! I may have nightmares about that one to come. My Mom really loved the women's ensemble performing their rendition of 9 to 5. We will be trying to recreate those songs for years to come. Centre Stage is no Peace Center but I was blown away by the local production of Mamma Mia. It was such a well done production! The characters were so well selected and the talent was incredible. The stage area was not very big but they used the space so well. Even though our seats were off to the side, I felt like I was transported to the small Greek island. Shout out to the actor who played Sam Carmichael. My fiance who has never watched the movie before watched him act and said "Wow he reminds me of Pierce Brosnan!" I will certainly be on the look out for future plays! read more

DOV: Friday, April 13 @ 8pm OH MAMMA MIA, MAMMA MIA!!! Who says Friday the 13th is bad luck? We had front row seats to this fun-filled, ABBA-inspired celebration of love and laughter (Michelle P., Community Ambassador, you are awesome) The players were great, the songs were classic, and the energy was contagious...we didn't want it to end. Centre Stage is a small, intimate venue where every seat affords a decent view of the action on stage. This was the first time we had been on the front row (fancy) and it was quite a treat. I could literally reach my leg out and touch the stage with my foot. Pretty cool. There is parking for the venue across the street for $5, but you can park for free at two different lots only about a three-minute walk away. Refer to my previous review for more information on parking and Centre Stage itself. We had the best time at MAMMA MIA. The arts are so important in the life of our community and I encourage everyone to support them in any way possible. read more

My first visit was opening night of Mama MIa! The production was outstanding BUT the sound system was abysmal...weak, difficult to hear, and scratchiness. The seating is "theater in the round" stadium. The steps are steep so I suggest selecting something low if you're older, have weak knees/hips. We navigated well, but I can see where some people might have issues. Be aware that the floor plan is confusing. I couldn't recreate how to maneuver once inside, if I had to. Perhaps it will be clearer after my next visit. The assistants were cheerful and helpful. Walls are adorned with lots of local art. Our evening was most enjoyable despite the sound system problems and the cast was fantastically talented! There is a parking lot adjacent to the door and a parking garage on the side of the theater, but a brisk walking distance away. It just makes you "bust your buttons" to have this kind of talent in our cozy hometown. Yeah, that Greenville! read more

We really enjoyed seeing "Let Nothing You Dismay" at Centre Stage. This is a holiday comedy about family and a performance in which the actors play several parts, which made it even funnier! The theatre itself is small, but nice. Even sitting at the very top towards the right, we had a great view of the stage and all the actors. In the lobby there's a small bar with beer, wine and snacks. Ticket prices are very reasonable, and to make it even better there's a $5 off tickets promotion on Yelp! Oh, and parking is easy! Just one more reason to come support and enjoy community theatre in downtown Greenville! read more

I won tickets to see Mamma Mia here through a Yelp giveaway.. We saw the show last night, and I was super impressed! There were coat racks available, the will call process was simple, and all workers we encountered were very friendly. We were 3 rows from the stage, but all seats in the theater had a great view!! The sets were gorgeous, and you could tell the performers were having a great time. It was a fun show to watch, and it provided a lot of laughs. We will definitely come back to check out other performances!! Parking is available in the lot next door for $5. Phenomenal theater! The volunteers are always so nice! They hold the tickets so someone will give them to you upon arrival. They have a beverage/snack area that is filled with alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages. The best part, they allow you to take your beverages into the theater with you!! AND if you would like to pre-order a beverage for intermission. This way you can skip the line. The theater itself is small and quaint. I LOVE IT!! I have sat on the sides before and in the center. Obviously, the center seats have the best views. However, the seats on the sides are not terrible. If you a have the opportunity to see a show here you should definitely not miss it!! read more

I just saw The Addams Family at Centre Stage, the first production I have seen there. I just moved to Greenville after spending most of my life in New York City and I am accustomed to New York quality theater. I was surprisingly impressed by the production. It was pretty well staged. The choreography and dancing were entertaining if not up to professional level. The direction was quite competent and made good use of the thrust stage giving all parts of the audience good sightlines. The lighting was excellent and scenic and costume design served the staging well. The sound was a little uneven. What was most stunning was the acting. The principal roles were all good with good singing voices and comic timing. The standouts for my taste were Uncle Fester (Jonathan Kilpatrick) whose waddle was delightful and he played the sexual ambiguity quite well. Who knows what gender the moon really is? Carly Frates was excellent as Wednesday. The story calls for her to be in love, which is uncharacteristic for the world of Charles Addams, but she played it well without losing Wednesday's winning morose edge. Blake Logan as Gomez set the tone with high energy, graceful and energetic movement, and a deft combination of funny and sexy. I think the material is sub par. Only the opening song is memorable. None of the songs are distinguished musically or lyrically and the book offers nothing very clever or unexpected. That isn't the fault of this production, however. It traces back to the Broadway creators. All in all, I think the production wins out over the material and is quite entertaining. I would love to see this same talent applied to some better material sometime. read more

Just saw A Few Good Men. 8 PM Saturday show. Cozy and intimate theater, with clear views from any seat and excellent acoustics. Seamless production and set transition. The acting was spirited and impassioned. Intermission room showcases local artists' works and serves cocktails. The staff is friendly and accommodating. Recommend parking below the Lazy Goat, having a 6PM dinner at one of the many restaurants nearby, and walking through Falls Park to the theater. Will absolutely go back. read more

Recently visited for the first time to see Spam-a-lot, and we had so much fun! It's a very intimate theater space. We had 2nd row seats, but I doubt there's a bad seat in the house. The actors were great, and they really put it all out there on stage. The best part? Affordable tickets. We love seeing bigger productions too, but this was a nice change from paying big $$ to squint from the balcony! read more

I was lucky enough to work at Center Stage and I am so glad that I did. The staff is wonderful. The season is so solid it makes me want to fly back out to see every show. I have never felt more at home with a group of strangers. If you are in the area or visiting see what is showing at Center Stage and treat yourself to the wonderful experience that is this great space with such talented actors and actresses and directors and technicians that bring everything together. BEWARE!! Centre Stage canceled the matinee with only hours to spare but refused to refund my money. I was visiting and live in another part of the country. It was impossible to get a manager to return my calls and/or written communication. Ignoring customers is rude and insensitive. One should not have to fight to get a refund for lack of service. Saw "Side by Side by Sondheim" here- modern theater, set up in a semi-circle with stadium seating, medium sized so it's fairly intimate but big enough to have mics and sound wired. Good acoustics and sightlines, inexpensive tickets and variety of shows booked here. Readily available parking in downtown Greenville, with alots of restaurants in the area for pre-theater dining. I'm sure the good show I saw here influenced my review...I recommend! Support the arts! read more

I have been attending productions and volunteering with Centre Stage for a while and I absolutely love this playhouse. The actors/actresses are always great and the variety of productions they put on can't be beat! My only sore-spot is with the seating. If you have seats too far to either side, you really miss out on a lot of the production. Buy your tickets early and shoot for the middle. It doesn't matter how far up you are. Everyone in the middle section will have a wonderful view. read more

For a small community theater, these people do an excellent job. I've seen several productions here--musicals, drama, comedy--the cast is all professional and entertaining. The sets, the sound, the lighting are top notch. They do run the air conditioning a little cool, so you might want to bring a jacket or sweater if you get cold easy. They sell beer/wine at the concession during intermission, and if you are there on opening night, local restaurants donate food for the audience after the show. Most recently there was food from The Cazbah, which was just phenomenal. Like the Greenville Little Theater, it is mostly retired people who patronize live theater here, but Centre Stage has a younger, hipper vibe in the cast and productions they put on. It's for young people, too, and I'd like to see more of them support the arts or even get involved. Centre Stage also offers acting classes if you'd like to try your hand at the craft. Treat yourself to season tickets. Enjoy the show. read more

For our first visit to Centre Stage my wife and I enjoyed a murder mystery with a comic twist. The production was very charming with the characters pulling us into the story. The set and staging worked well to give the audience the ambiance required to carry the story. The intimate theater made it easy to see the performance even though we had purchased cheap seating at the side of the stage. The overall atmosphere was informal with a raffle held at intermission with proceeds supporting the non-profit organization. There was a small bit of offensive language that startled us, but overall the evening was a great delight, especially with the twist at the finale. We will look for other opportunities to enjoy this venue. read more
