I've been coming back every year to rainbow attic and always find great clothes from brand name labels. Rainbow attic has a nicely curated selection of clothes, shoes, jewelry, and housewares. I would say the prices are higher than a thrift store but are still reasonable prices. Recently I found a $250 Tahari dress for $18, Tori Richard dress for $38, and a Micheal Kors dress for $26. Rainbow attic is worth the stop if you're willing to sift through everything to find some treasures! read more

I have been to Rainbow Attic many times over the years and decided to consign . I am so disappointed and feel ripped off. Both times I consigned several items went " missing" and was only given $1 for quality items . I believe they sell for more and throw you a crumb . Beware !! they are not honest and give a different excuse every time you ask for accounting of your items . I choose not to shop here and certainly not consign. Bad business practice. read more

Stopped by this cute little place while I was on vacation with my family. I was impressed! Everything was well organized by categories and the prices were affordable relative to the other stores on the island. There were many vintage items which could serve as great decoration for any home or apartment. I spoke with the owner and his wife detailing him of our vacation plans. Went here today after being on the beach all day. They didn't mind at all that I was in a bikini top & sandy feet. Definitely gave me the aloha feel. There selection is GREAT with reasonable prices. I love a bargain. REALLY love a bargain. Rainbow attic always has a bargain waiting for me. The RA is a frumpy little thrift store in a strip mall right next door to the local police sub station. I always make it a point to stop in at least twice when we are in Maui...I have scored some terrific bargains here. For example: Three bottles of nearly new perfume/cologne for $10 each. One for me, one for my mom, one for my husband. Each one retails at over $100 per bottle. A pair of Lucky Jeans (that fit me perfectly) for $14.99. Beach chairs (our vacation rental condo did not have any) for $5 each. Abercrombie shorts for $8 New books to read on the beach for a few dollars each Swim trunks to wear over my bathing suit bottoms while snorkeling $7 New Reef flip flops $5 ...I don't know what else, but there is always something good to be found. Sun glasses, clothes, DVD's & CD's...it's all here. RA seems to sell a lot of 'left over' stuff from tourists who leave clothes or other things behind when they go back home. Fun times! After searching for this place long and hard, turns out it was right next to where we parked in the Foodland parking lot right behind Sansei. Tricky. The dollar bins are awesome deals if you have the patience to search. I saw Citizens of Humanity jean skirts, Paper Denim and Cloth jeans, Anne Klein tops, white house black market tops, and underarmor workout tops. Inside is more fun... I saw an amoir which I tried to buy (but my fiancé said it doesn't fit in our carry on) for $100. It would have been a killer deal! They also have LV, coach, juicy. Not sure how authentic but they look good. I might go back and check them out when fiancé is not looking. read more

*** CONSIGNORS - WARNING! WARNING! *** I consigned a TON of stuff here a couple years ago as I was moving off the island, and I am STILL WAITING FOR MY MONEY. Two years ago...after the check never arrived, I called to follow up. After the runaround, I am finally informed that they do not send checks via mail. WTF? Then they explain that IF I had provided a mailing address on my contract at the time, they would have mailed it. ME: "But I gave you my mailing address. You knew I was moving...so of course you have a new address on file..." THEM: "Sorry, You'll have to come back in person to get your money, and bring an ID." WOW. So then it is like...ok, it is worth the $750 plane ticket to come back to pick up a $400 consignment check? Of course not. SO...HERE I AM 2 YEARS LATER...HERE TO FINALLY GET PAID BY THEM. Today I walked in, again got the runaround, they took my name and number...and the worst thing..I could tell that the staff was used to this situation (of trying to explain all the reasons that they would not have sent a check). What do you think, Yelpers? Think they will ever cough up a consignment check? Until they step up and fix this...I WARN YOU NOT TO SHOP OR CONSIGN HERE. read more

This place is the biggest rip off on island. It's crazy that they would even list the Rainbow Attic as a 'thrift store' when there is nothing thrifty about this place! Used furniture is more expensive than buying it brand new. Believe me, I shopped the entire island to furnish my new place, and one time I came in here I saw a USED rug for over $50 more than the same rug NEW at Lowes. I gave this place one more shot, but when I came in, I saw a small glass bar table for over $400 bucks, and a used couch marked at... $1200. You'd MAYBE get that if these pieces were brand new or antique. But they were not, just your average used island decor everyone's got. read more

i'm not sure how they decide their pricing. their furniture is mostly over priced but you can also score a mainland-only dresser for $35. the clothes range from $6-18 for a new shirt but i usually end up finding an almost new honolua surf co dress for around $10. it is a great place to buy a rash guard or board shorts on the cheap and their dollar bin outside the shop is always fun to paw through. one weird/awesome thing about the shop: they have, almost exclusively, size 8 shoes. works perfectly for me! read more

It's only 3 stars because many things are pricey - for what they are. The service was great; friendly greeting upon arrival; checking in w/me during shopping. There were some cute things but I'd say this is more a upscale resale consignment + Goodwill thrown together. I like Goodwill. That's not a negative comment. It's just to describe the two extremes ... $8.00/bag o' forks near a $400 marble top dresser next to $6.00 picture frame near a $700 tv armoire near a $100 wood art piece. Odd mix. The clothes and jewelry are like a mixture of bagged import goods w/garage sale finds. I won't be a regular customer but I may pop in for a cool, a/c visit and maybe find something cool. I consign @ various places (also, on the mainland) so ,I am very familiar with consignment stores & how they work. I gave Rainbow Attic a second try after a few years. My 1st experience was some of my items went missing & I did not get credit for all the items I brought it. ( I keep an inventory & pictures in my phone) I wrote that off believing that possibly the employee was @ fault . I always give people & business' second chances, but what I realize is that they always show you exactly who they are. A lesson learned! I tried again in Sept and I should have questioned why they don't give you an inventory of your items, the price they are selling it for & internet access to see your progress. I again , made my list , took pictures in my phone .When I went to check on my items- there were 2 things missing!! I brought in a brand new pair of Men's suede boots - that they could not find & said it was damaged so they must have thrown it away?? How unprofessional!! Shouldn't I have been contacted ? It took the salesperson 20-25 minutes to go through the computer & tell me that . Why wasn't there some type of notation under my account. The men's boots that I brought in were new & a month old. I highly doubt they delaminated! There were no notations in my account. Another item was not even listed in their computer. I feel, the way they handle consignments is sketchy & unprofessional. If they were honest & on the up & up they would give you an inventory sheet or internet access to see your progress. What a disappointing experience! Especially, for a local company. Also, the pay out is minimal & they charge you an additional fifty cents per item , after taking 60%. They also, will not tell you over the phone the status of your account. One word: greed. Every item here, some clothing excluded, was ridiculously priced. Seriously you're better off not wasting time and going straight to costco/ross/Walmart/target. No bargains to be found here, sadly, just a rude cashier and a bunch of overpriced outdated and broken junk. read more

The Rainbow Attic is a first rate, well-organized and well-stocked consignment store. They have a huge selection of items: everything from housewares and sports equipment, to furniture, art, jewellery, and designer dresses. Half the store is dedicated to women's clothing, but there's a good selection of menswear from Aloha wear (I saw some 100% silk Hawaiian vintage shirts), to board shorts. In addition to the regular-priced items they also do 50% off if an item hasn't sold for awhile. The store has three change rooms with a bar sufficiently long to hang a lot of items. I visited several times in a three week stay and found real treasures each time. There were a set of carved teak armchairs, a hip and luxurious burnout velvet shawl, a hand-quilted Hawaiian-themed bedspread and pillowcases, and an authentic Papua New Guinea sculpture. All of these were in excellent condition and very reasonably priced. Further I found the staff courteous, attentive, and frank. They offered candid opinions when asked, offered additional information when they had it, and everyone had a sense of humour. Note to bargain hunters: this is a consignment store, not the Salvation Army. The prices here are very low relative to retail, but they are not as low as a thrift store stocked with donated goods. If you are missing something on your visit to Maui check out the Rainbow Attic. You will most likely be able to find a nice pair of shorts for $6-$10 as opposed to $35-$60 retail, and many other delightful things besides. The stock changes constantly so go more than once! Staff was rude and pretentious. They priced a hat at $28 and placed it at the register for me to purchase, the seller was unhappy with this price. At this point, the staff took the hat and repriced it at $150. They did all of this without telling me or apologizing or even acknowledging me. When I asked why, they were rude and short! read more

On vacation in Kihei, I happened upon the Rainbow Attic which was right next door to where we were eating. I spotted the sign for the $1 bin and couldn't resist stopping by after dinner. I'm glad I did! There were all sorts of great finds for less than $10, most of which is in very good condition. (If it isn't, it's in the $1 bin!) Wish I had another hour to rifle through everything. You can always find something to buy but beware. I purchased a no label shirt, decent price $6, as I was at the cash register looking over the shirt. I noticed some stains that I didn't see when I tried on the shirt; the dressing rooms have horrible lighting. The cashier had just made the transaction when I mentioned the stains, she tells me that it's a done deal and no returns, seriously?!? I could've made a stink but didn't have the energy to do it...so instead I'm writing this review. Oh and I live here in Kihei so not sure I'll come back or recommend shopping here.... read more

Although a bit pricey, this consignment store carries top quality merchandise. The store is clean and neatly arranged. There was so much to choose from....just wish I could have spent more time there without the hubby ~ LOL ! I found a like new Tori Richard, Honolulu, top for $20. There was some pilling and the owner took off an additional $5 so I was VERY happy. Also, scored a vintage Vera Bradley wristlet for $4. Check out their $1 bargain bin on the outside too! Love shopping here, and it's close to home. The prices aren't bad, they're just sort of loopy. Like one shirt of a certain brand is $6, but another shirt of the same brand is way higher! Let me start out by stating that this is a consignment store. What that means, is people take their things into this store for them to sell. With that being said, the store obviously must make money as well as the consignee once merchandise is sold. All of the other reviews about prices being too high have probably never taken this into account. 12 dollars for a swimsuit in my opinion is not a lot of money at all. My husband and I went in the other day just to browse and hopefully pick up a few items..we walked out after spending 200 dollars and got three huge wooden souvenir pieces, and a bag full of clothing and makeup and other trinkets. They have a huge and I do mean HUGE selection of anything you or any other visiting tourist would bring on vacation. I think that the house cleaners from every hotel around Maui take all of the forgotten items and bring them into this shop to sell. As I was looking around at the 1/4 can used sunscreens, the almost brand new makeup, the sandals, men's Hawaiian tees, swimsuits and cover-ups galore the only thought that was constantly going through my mind was WOW how could she forget THIS! They said they get new items in every day and sometimes they have to hold off on taking any for a day or two because they have so much stock. We definitely will be going back here to browse the selection before we leave and you can bet that I will be triple checking every inch of our condo so that we don't leave ANYTHING behind read more

I have brought things in for consignment simply because I like to upcycle and don't like to see things go in the trash. You get a very low percentage for dealing with their rude staff. NO more. I am not going to deal with their rudeness any more. This last time I went in to pull out a table they had on consignment from me and it was all scratched up on the top and when I pointed it out, the owner said I would know more than her - insinuating that I brought it in like that. All this after she was already really rude to me. This is not the first time, but it will be the last. I would rather give my things away than deal with these people. BTW, a couple of the clerks are nice people. Not the owner and the vietnamese or filipino woman in the back. Rude, rude, rude. Now I suspect dishonest also. read more
