I visited this shop a couple years ago when we were in Kihei and I didn't buy anything, but did love the layout of the store. On this trip I stopped by the $1 bins outside and found a dress. That was a bargain! However, looking through the store, as I remember from last time, everything is pretty pricey. There was a used tablecloth (was the same mud cloth table covering from Mama's Fish House) and they wanted $12 for it. I would have spent $4 for the fabric, but not $12. I went to the markdown rack and I pulled out a dress and it was marked down half from $300. They had lovely things, but I don't shop for high end clothing. If you like expense things that you can get a bit cheaper, then this is the place for you. The clerk was very sweet. And I am happy with my dress!! I told him I was just taking a penny because I'm collecting them now that the US Mint won't be making any more. I threw four dimes in the till but he wouldn't stop scolding me. Visiting my husband's family on Maui and found this gem of a thrift store in Kihei - we weren't even staying in Kihei but found this place on Yelp and decided we had to make the trip. It was worth it! Super packed thrift store with everything you can imagine - clothes, books, housewares, art, etc. Pretty decent prices too. Found a jacket, coffee mug, and some cutting boards that I decided would fit in my suitcase. Next time I'm bringing and empty suit case to Maui just to fill up here. IMHO If you're a thrifter or love looking for yard sale treasures, head to Rainbow Attic in Kihei. Everything is merchandised and organized well. It is easy to shop. No clutter to distract and confuse you. I just wish the prices were more enticing. When I go to a consignment or thrift store, I want to find a great deal. Didn't find any deals here, or least I wasn't willing to pay what they were asking. However, it is fun to wander around and browse. You never know what you might find... There are even some "free" bins outside. read more

I like this little consignment shop in Kihei because they do a nice job of sorting the clothes, usually by color. I suppose that goes with their rainbow theme. I can usually find something that fits at a good price. Lately it has been more challenging since they don't let you try the clothes on in the dressing room, but you're welcome to try them on over your clothes. It's usually pretty busy in there karma so I guess the word is out. They also sell household stuff, and out front there's usually a bargain bin with items for one dollar. read more

I finally made it to the attic! A lovely shop nestled in a convenient complex by a great shave ice place. The Rainbow has a large selection of women's clothing, some men's and children's items along with pieces for your home. I loved the houseware items! There were so many pieces with a fun, retro vibe and classic items that brought up feelings of nostalgia. I found a funky romper with a cool black and white print and some Tommy Bahama cotton cargo pants that were definitely more of a need than a want! I appreciate the eclectic collection at AMAZING prices. I totally scored and can't wait to go back! It would be awesome if a shop like this opened up on Oahu... Second location maybe? I love this store. I go every time I'm in Kihei. I especially love the $1 bins in front of the store. Occasionally, they even offer $5 fill a bag for items in the front bins. I always find clothes for myself, and friends. The dressing rooms are nice- and well lit. I'm forever sending photos of items to friends for approval. Always new items coming in. The staff are very friendly. They have always been happy to hold my items behind the counter when I run over to Starbucks to await friends approval on items. No returns- so make sure you love your items. Great prices on everything. Plenty of parking in the shared lot. Open daily. read more

I called the store in July and they told me that I could bring my items in mid September. That was how long I had to wait for them to just look at my items. Then they took quite a few of my items that were very good quality, good shape, barely worn and told me that they would get them out on the floor quickly and that if they're not sold by November they would donate them unless I came back in to get what was left over. November came and my items weren't even out on the floor yet they didn't even have me in their computer yet, they never gave me a receipt for my items told me that they don't do that. The whole experience was terribly uncomfortable. My items were definitely worth over thousands of dollars and they acted like they're just too busy to take care of this in a timely manner. I gave them several quality dresses from anthropology quality tops from Johnny Was items from Kate Spade. They were all washed and ironed, and ready to be put out on the floor I finally gave up and asked for my items back and I'm lucky I got them before they went on the floor because I've heard that if you want your items back, you have to go on the floor and search for them, but because they were still in a box, I was able to retrieve all of them. When they gave them back to me, they were all bundled up and squished in a small bag. When I asked the gal why she wouldn't give me a receipt her response was we don't do that and we've been in business for 30 years !!!unfortunately that's because there's no competition. They're rude. They're slow. They're incompetent. They took away dressing rooms, it's a bummer. I will not deal with them again and I warn you as a consigner to beware. read more

We were in Kihei for 10 days in December, and the wife thought it would be moderate temperatures, but it was hot with temperatures in the low 80s. She needed some short pants, but wasn't going to get taken to the cleaners going to those tourist traps downtown. Rainbow Attic is in the Kihei Town Shopping center right next to Foodland supermarket and Cuarto restaurant, 1.6 miles from our condo across the street from Kamaole Beach 2. Sign on wall says "sorry, no bathroom key nor code". Don't want the homeless using the bathroom key for the bathroom down the hall. Another sign says "the deadline for complaints was yesterday". Third sign says "Husband will leave wife if she goes shopping again. Wife says she'll miss him". Like all consignment stores, probably about 75% clothing for women, and 25% for men. Who says it's a man's world? Place looks like it inherited Imelda Marcos estate of 700 pairs of shoes here. And Filipinos are the largest ethnic population in the islands. Lots of weird looking stuff, like yellow jackets, orange golf shirts, and lots of T-shirts. The usual furniture, but remember all of it has to fit in your luggage on the plane. Very small selection of men's shoes. Lots of golf shoes and shirts, along with Hawaiian shirts. Can't see tourists taking them back to sub zero snow bound Edmonton Alberta in the winter. Quality collared shirt goes for about $15 here, compared to $40+ new in the stores. Men don't donate used clothing or shoes -they wear them until there are holes in them. Saw a pair of name brand running shoes in the men's section size 9 that were too small for my size 8 feet -turned out they were women's shoes. 3 dressing rooms for trying on clothes, right in the back, next to the donation counter, so they can keep an eye on you in case you try wearing that Hawaiian shirt out the door, without paying. Even in paradise they trust you about as far as they can throw you! Didn't see any walking sandals in either men's or women's -and I can wear a women's size 9. Nobody is giving away their sandals in year round 80 degree weather! Outside a cart of shoes for $1. Looked like the Rockette's pumps -just what I needed for beach walking! When my wife didn't bring enough short pants, we didn't panic. We went to Rainbow Attic! read more

Finally went to Rainbow Attic for the first time in all these years they've been around. There are pros and cons to the place. The nice thing is they have some $1 bins outside and have the option to fill a Safeway size paper grocery bag for $5 with various clothes items also outside. They have a wide selection of old school looking clothes and dishware if that's what you're looking for, as well as a bunch of arts and crafts/sewing type materials. In terms of luxury consignment items I expected to see like brand name bags or outfits, I feel they are not exactly that type of place. Additionally, I tried to sell some David's Bridal bridesmaid dresses and that didn't really go as expected. It took awhile to be greeted by anyone and the cashier was not especially warm when she did. She proceeded to tell me that they were not taking any consignment items that week and would only be taking them next week during certain days and times. Being from the other side of the island and not knowing this ahead of time was kind of an inconvenience. I was under the impression items could be sold whenever. She told me to bring my items to the lady in back to be appraised anyway, to see if she'd take them during their regular hours of consignment acceptance. The lady in back was just as cold if not colder, no smile or anything. She told me they don't even take those kinds of dresses, cuz she thinks they'd be hard to sell. I personally didn't think so, as they could be used for prom or another occasion also. There's no sign on them saying "wedding parties only." In any case, the trip was pretty much a bust, but at least I got to look around a bit and see something new. Overall, the place just left me with a bad vibe, largely due to the lack of warmth from the staff. It might be for some people, but I personally wouldn't recommend the place. I have enjoyed thrifting clothes here for years. You can almost always find hidden gems at a good price. Coming in today, I wasn't aware that they removed the dressing rooms until after I did my picking. A lady with short grey hair told me to put the clothes on a rack, stand in a corner of mirrors (where the dressing room used to be) in a now open room and try on the clothes that way. I tried one just for laughs and had to leave. You can always purchase now to try on at home and risk a waste of money/time. read more

Wanted a original(non tourist/China made) Hawaiian chotsky, So dropped in here to see if I might stumble upon something.. as the name suggests it's a Rainbow assortment of stuff, basically a part thrift store to vintage jewelry shop.. was larger that expected. It certainly was a step above the Salvation Army store, but lacked any real items of value other than jewelry, unless of course your trying to furnish a 80's styled AirBnb.. I'm he/him.. so can't speak for the range of clothes other genders might appreciate here, but they got a wide selection of clothes as well.. the most annoying thing about this place was all the cool shit was on shelves above the crap proudly displayed with signage saying Not For Sale.. so I guess this place is part museum too, but I wouldn't pay the admission. This is my kind of thrift store. Chock full of boho clothing that was also very well organized by color and type. There was a whole rack of designer clothing and a 50% off rack as well! They had a couple of sales going that are diagnosed by the color of the tags. Other items they sell are tchotchkes, art, and then some. Tucked away in the corner of a strip mall in Kihei is this great thrift shop! There are so many treasures - household, decor, clothing. Perusing through this treasure trove took me away from the sunshine and beaches of Maui for a while, but it was worth it! There are some great clothing pieces that fits the tropical lifestyle, as well as bringing back to colder areas of the mainland! Love this place!!! Such a great selection of clothes and prices aren't to bad either. Wish I would have known about this shop when I first started coming to Maui. The clothes are used (maybe not all but most are) and they are in exceptional quality. You will see quite of variety of labels too. The female staff is cold and rude, if you don't like dealing with customer service don't be in the industry! I used to love shopping here but everything is overpriced and DAMAGED! Make sure you look over your items carefully before purchasing because they won't let you return anything. I consigned some of my clothing and they rejected so many of my clothes, with tags on them. Yet they have items with holes, stains and broken straps on their floor. I barely made any money after waiting months for them to put my clothing on the floor after giving it to them. I asked for my clothing back at the end that didn't sell and the cashier told me I could have them if I can go around the store and find the items myself! They also didn't give me a receipt or tell me how many items they took or sold or what was left etc. never shop here! read more
