Check-in Barn
Terri B.

We were in Sacramento the end of September to do the River Fox Railbikes, and the day was beautiful. We checked in down at the old fashioned little town area in the barn. At our reservation time, our guides gave a presentation and we walked up to the bikes where there were helmets for those who didn't have their own. We were given another presentation on how the bikes worked, we climbed on and the employees came around to adjust the seats if need be. We were off on the adventure. Others have said they had to pedal a lot as their batteries were dying, which happened to a few, but ours was just fine. We did pedal and occasionally used the assist. The scenery starts next to the river and then enters farmland were we saw fields filled with tomatoes, watermelon, and squash. The sunflower fields had already died off. Once you get going, the rail bikes all space out so you aren't on top of each other. You go out and then stop at the end of the tracks for the guides to turn the bikes around. You have time to take pictures and stretch your legs. Back on the rail bikes we had new views as we were seated on the opposite side. There were wild turkeys roaming about. We had a ball. The entire experience lasted about an hour and a half, and round trip is a little over 10 miles. Parking is easy, they have a dirt lot. Doing this as a couple is a fun date day experience, or with a group of friends to celebrate a birthday would be a blast too.

Since moving to Sacramento a few months ago, we've taken our friends and family to this three times! It's a great outing and in the scheme of rail bikes, on the more affordable side (but still pricey, no doubt!) the folks who work here are fun, and we've always had a great time with them. Sacramento is gorgeous and has different seasons so every time we've gone, it's been a different experience/view. I'd say fall and spring are definitely the nicest but the whole trip is fun enough even when not during those times. The trail takes you along the river and past farms, and you even get to be a train at some point (they do a whole train crossing and everything). They give you water and snacks (chips) which are nice to chomp on and then at the end you get to watch them turn around the bikes to bike on back. It's a great way to see the countryside and definitely worth it!! It's good for folks of all athletic ability since they're electric so you could not bike at all and that's fine as well. Pro tip: the left seat doesn't have to do any work to help the bike get going, so if you can't really do much athletics, do that seat!

Last month we rode their beer train. This month it was the rail bikes. The bikes were fun. Pedaling was not even needed as you could use the throttle the whole way. Only one set of pedals actually affected the speed. The view was of orchards and empty fields. The whole trip was about an hour and a half.

I was searching for fun activities that were out of the ordinary to do with my boyfriend and came across River Fox Train in Sacramento. We arrived half an hour early, as per instruction, to a train station that was cutely decorated with a fake saloon and a gift shop. The courtyard area had jumbo jenga and connect four as well as plenty of picnic benches. The outdoor courtyard was located directly next to a body of water and it was really a great view. Unfortunately, not everyone decided to follow the half hour rule and showed up pretty close to kick off time and we were required to wait on the rest of the reserved spots., thankfully they had great music playing on loud speakers and complimentary water which made the time fly by quickly. We were escorted up to the train tracks where the bikes were ready to go with helmets on each seat. The throttle and breaks of the bikes were explained to us and we tested them out to ensure they were in good working order. One of the handle bar cushions was missing and you had to be careful of hand placement because your fingers would get squeezed by the other persons handle when you were in motion. The resistance on our bike was flashing dead battery so where seemed to be no change in resistance. The ride is approximately ten miles long and it is not a loop. You get to your half way point and get off the bike and the guide will flip the bike around. All in all, it was beautiful scenery and it was a beautiful July day to go out and enjoy. This most likely be an experience I do every couple of years but it was very enjoyable. Tip: the driver ( the one positioned in the right hand seat) is not allowed to have their cell phone out, so make sure your passenger is the good photographer!

Had an amazing time. Decided to do this with a group of friends. We had an amazing time. We got a little lost getting there, but luckily for us they waited until we got there and it didn't throw off the schedule because we weren't the only ones running late so everyone got to do the tour, they give you snacks and water.

My companion had wanted to try for awhile so we finally arranged a time to come by. It is a two seater rail bike but does have an area to put your bags. The staff provide a 15 minute instruction plus another 10 minute check. The ride itself is around 30 minute each way plus a 10 minute to rotate the bike around midway. The bike can be peddled or electric whole way. It was pretty fun but not a lot of things to look at.

Holiday train review - Absolutely spectacular and warm heartening experience for our 3 and 4 year…read moreold girls! I don't know what other low rating patrons are expecting... fireworks? High class service? Jazz band playing in every train car with speakers interconnected? We came expecting nothing and ended up having an incredible experience with beautiful decorations well suited for a sweet, memorable Christmas train experience. Online reservations were simple, easy to obtain, and a lot more affordable compared to the exorbant Polar Express tickets. We're extremely happy that we chose this over Sacramento's Polar Express. It's obvious that their staff spent a lot of time putting work into the trains inner and outter decor - beautiful and creative! Parents and adults FYI - on your way to your reserved train car, there's a small bar after boarding the train. It's very important to load up on your magic drinks before heading to your seat. (Drinks.. not drink! But drink responsibly, of course.) Parking isn't far and although limited, it shouldn't be a problem with reservations handled appropriately. We sang a few Christmas songs with the elves, threw snowballs at the grinch (best part, IMO), met Santa, and had a little fun at Santa's (little) village after the ride. Every sip of their hot cocoa (included with your tickets) was warming and delicious, perfect for cold weather. Couple of cookies came along with it, perfect for our kids to snack on. Overall, this was an incredible experience for our kids! Service was fantastic, ambiance was very jolly and felt like home, staff members are very friendly, and the experience is fantastic for all occasions - family, friends, and dates! The memories are ever lasting and hopefully it becomes a core memory that lasts a lifetime. Highly recommended to experience, at least once, for your little loved ones. We'll be back next year!

We were NEVER SERVED ANY FOOD during our 2-hour Tea Train and could barely get water…read more About 30 minutes after boarding we were given hot water but no tea bags. We eventually found our own. Refills of hot water, cream, and drinking water required chasing down staff. After 45 minutes we began asking where the food was, while people in another section of the car had already ordered and eaten their meals. Staff kept saying the food would come "soon." It never did. At 1 hour 45 minutes the staff disappeared, and the train returned to the station at 2 hours. No food and no explanation. I had to insist on speaking with a manager and got a refund. I still don't understand how this could happen.

My sister and I decided to rent bikes with Napa Valley Bike Tours, and I am so glad that we did. Mackenzie, Kelly, and the other ladies we met upon arriving to the shop greeted us with so much enthusiasm and kindness! Before we even stepped foot into the shop, our bikes were already conveniently sitting outside the shop, ready to go. Everything is so well organized from the tools they provide (i.e. Storage bag on the bike, water bottle holder, bike map) to the instructions they give. Mackenzie gave us the run-down on which trails and Wineries we might want to visit during our ride which we appreciated greatly. The views and the vibes you get while biking on the scenic trail along Dry Creek Road are so worth it. I would highly recommend booking with NVBT as you will not regret it. Pro tip: For an even better ride, I would recommend adding a gel seat for $5 more if you plan to rent a comfort cruiser, especially if you are 200+ lbs. ;)

Cameron was especially helpful in getting us set up and going on the first day. We used the bikes to tour wineries and selected the wine and dining spots based on the bike routes they provided. It was an amazing lifetime experience!!

I Googled hiking tour and it took me to Escape travel tours website. I saw that there were 8-12 mile hikes and immediately thought that was a bit too much for me and my guests, so I emailed them to see if they could do any shorter hiking trips, and less difficult. I immediately got a response back from John the owner with a perfect idea for a day long hiking trip. Here was his email: K We just did a wonderful Best of Marin county hiking and sightseeing tour last Tue with a couple in their 50's and it was fantastic. Here is the itinerary. We were a little nervous at first since there were no previous ratings on yelp, but he has a vehicle with the travel tour company plastered all over it to make you feel comfortable, and when we met John he was very personable and didn't seem creepy or anything at all. He had some fruit and some water in the back of the car for us as well. As soon as we got in the car he started by telling us about his company and what the day would be like. He was an excellent driver on the windy mountain roads, which we really appreciated! I tend to get sick on those roads, but he was the best driver I have seen under those conditions. He also had a Honda pilot which I think handles curves well. He also mentioned he has a large passenger van for bigger tours as well. I won't go into the full detail of the whole trip, because I would be writing a while, but you can imagine the awesome sights, with a great tour guide, and a perfectly packed lunch and snacks for an affordable price. It was so nice to not have to drive and figure out where we were going. He also had a pass to Muir woods so our $5 admission was covered. John also took pics of us - prompted by us but also some by him, which we appreciated. He also taught us more about trees than we ever thought we would know. I hope this posting gets him some more business!! He mentioned he also does vacation tours, corporate tours, private biking tours, boat tours...basically everything, and he has been in business 10 years. His website should tell you what he does for other tours. We will definitely book Escape travel tours again!!!

We booked our bikes online for two days of riding, and when we showed up Emily already had everything dialed in and ready to go. But the real magic was the itinerary she created for us.
