I bought my house with a Radon system already in it from another company, but it never worked really great and readings were always above EPA recommendations in the basement, but ok on the first floor. I didn't really worry about it, but it kept me from using my basement regularly.
The fan eventually gave up the ghost and I called the company to just buy a fan direct. The wiring is simple household wiring and two o-ring clamps like on a car radiator to connect it to the pipes. I can do that. But they said they only honor the warranty if the fan is installed by a licensed radon installer. They gave me a few local names and I e-mailed Radon Protection Services. They messaged me back promptly and came out and replaced the fan for a reasonable price.
They also looked at the system, did some testing, and let's just say when they heard who originally installed it, they were not surprised it wasn't working well. They made some suggestions on what we could do and I scheduled a second appointment to have them clean up and take out unnecessary bends in the system. The extra bends were adding drag and making my fan work too hard. Their policy is they don't stop trying until the Radon level goes below the EPA guidelines, and I can 100% say they honor that. They were our 3 times. First, to fix the pipes (and to dig more out of the hole in the basement floor which the original installer did not do to specification). Then they replaced the fan again with a higher powered one. Then they finally came out again and added a second pipe into the system. And the radon is now low. All the time low. Like really, really low. 0.7 to 0.9 pCi/L.
Great work. Friendly people. Reasonably priced. Prompt service. Highly, highly recommended. read more
