Pork belly.

You know what? I'm going to update my review and lay 5 stars on this baby because after being a customer for a year now I can say that I've always received friendly service, tasty tacos (if not altogether authentic) and other Mexican influenced dishes that are great for sharing (I'm looking at you civeche). Bonus points for the margaritas which have been spot on every single time. The best bit? I always leave feeling like I've had an excellent night for not a whole lot of cash.

Look.. I love Mexican food. I don't care if you don't care or how many times I've said it or even mentioned it in my reviews... I'm pretty sure it'll come up again. Anywayz, I really wanted to give Radio Mexico 5 stars but, after having been to San Diego or even Olvera Street in LA (No no.. I'm not being an arrogant prick, just keeping it honest and objective), I believe that 4 stars sounds about right. We had dinner on Sat night. It was quite busy, which is to be expected really as it is a really cool place and the food is really good. We shared the Pork Belly and spiced rice (Wow.. That rice was good and the pork belly.. hmm.. delicious) plus I had a chicken taco as well as the pulled pork taco. They were pretty good but they were not (what's the word I'm looking for?...ah!) tits you know! Don't get me wrong, compared to say... Senoritas, Radio Mexico definitely wins the challenge and I will return because I want to try other things on the menu; however when it comes to authenticity, well.....

Sydney, you have got to get your act together. Mexican in Melbourne is whipping your arse. This is such a funky little place. My sister introduced me to Radio Mexico A couple of years ago, and I recall being completely blown away by it. I had tried some crab and corn Tostaditas, that had seared their way into my brain at the time, and I had been almost DYING to give Mal the experience. Funnily enough, hitting them yesterday, I was all a bit "Meh" I kind of thought that they had had a bit more zing, or pop to them, but it may have been the order in which things were served yesterday that messed with my taste-buds. The fish taco arrived first. This time, the waiter urged me to try the fried fish taco, rather than the grilled one (Though I recall the grilled one as being rather fabulous last time anyway.) however, he was not wrong. It was a complete Ping! Pop! Kabang! POW! in the mouth. Juicy delicious salady slaw stuff, with a bit of fire. Mal ordered some pulled pork Carnitas that featured the most divine slow cooked pork, beans, corn, coriander, etc. Just yummy. Their cocktails are bloody good too, and there's usually a bit of a show going on behind the bar, with a fair bit of bottle flipping to pass the time between orders. Go on! Get it all in your belly! You know you want to!

Holy guacamole and so much more! Now offering thier full menu and what a tour de force it is! Something to go back for. I met this girl named radio; she said her signal was low, she wasn't getting much sound, she kept the volume down, then she kissed me in the face... As far as songs go, this is pretty much what it is; newly arrived and freshly opened, Radio Mexico is sure to go gangbusters soon, but is on the quiet for now. First impressions are impressive- fine dining without the price tag, delivered to the masses. For your dining options; there is a half in, half out dining area by the street; covered enough to be warm, but open enough to be fresh. The main dining room is simple but well executed via great design elements. Cohesive design. It's all in all an inviting space that works well. I had a rippingly good time here and did order quite a lot. Prawn and chipolte taco; in its namesake with chipolte, offers a fresh and clean taste -superbly cooked. its obvious that almost everything here is house-made. The tortilla almost resembles a fabric; soft yet firm and holds it's shape. Simple, clean, elegant flavours. Bloody Maria is good too; a piquant of sweetness enveloped by savory, spicy goodness. Lamb taco: is like being hit in the face with a strong right hook; in the good way. Succulent, juicy flavoursome, meltingly tender lamb that is ultra fresh- burst with clean sharp flavours. Strong taste, yet restrained. The Guacamole is just suburb. Well executed and brilliant wine list. Yet to make my way through most of the remaining drinks list. Chicken taco; brilliant, a few key ingredients used. as for the prawn, lamb it's perfectly cooked. house made corn chips are great too; its how all corn chips should be. i want to live here. The Mexicano Cocktail is great; a negroni but based with Espolon tequila. Bug Meat taco: Clean, fresh, excellent flavours. The Nachos here thankfully haven't been bastardised by western flavours and customs. "Chilaquiles" No cheese, but fresh sour cream. It works well and is fantastic. I was here when it was dead quiet; but nevertheless it was attentive, and food came out comfortably. Relaxed yet professional service. Hold onto your hats guys- Radio Mexico is going places.

Coconut water and Vanilla Margarita- yummy tequila!!

Coming from California and having been to Mexico, I can guarantee that I've had authentic Mexican. I think this is probably the closest I've had to it here in Australia although it misses being Authentic by far. I might just be picky about my Mexican food though. The one thing that is going good for them is their main dishes. We shared the Meatball dish (sorry can't remember the name) and it was excellent! I do think that the green rice was a bit lacking in flavor though and I had to add the sauce and crema to it for flavor. The tacos are quite filling though, but the Pollo one that I had seemed to be a bit lacking in flavor as well. I'm a big person for spices and they just seemed like they needed something added. My husband had a fish taco (he wanted to compare to the proper Mexican ones he's had) and was impressed with it having a bit of a bite! Their special margarita was a coconut milk and vanilla margarita. Although the first batch that came to us wasn't impressive on taste (minus the tequila), I have it a second chance and my second one was absolutely amazing! I'm looking forward to seeing if they end up doing a pomegranate or strawberry one! The service was quite so-so. We were pointed to our table, not walked and it took a whole to even get a drink menu. The waiter never brought us our water and I had to ask for it with our chips and salsa. They're prompt on refilling drinks but attention wise they are a big lacking. Hoping it was just a day where they were just lacking in staff because I really want to try the potato and chorizo quesadilla!!

Whats not to like about Radio Mexico? Excellent location in St Kilda, Terrific Tacos, cute outdoor terrace and delicious cocktails. Had dinner here a few Saturdays ago and really enjoyed the experience. Had a classic Margarita and Guacamole for starters followed by pulled pork and taco's. Absolutely delicious. Staff were really attentive in a non creepy way and I loved the colorful decor. Can't wait for summer to come back so I can spend lazy Sunday lunches with friends there...

Juanita's does a taco night on the first Friday of every month. We decided to check it out tonight…read more... and we weren't disappointed! The shop itself is very unassuming - a diamond in the rough. Juanita (or who I assume is Juanita? Should have asked! ... ) was very friendly. She made us feel very welcome and ensured we had everything we needed. We tried the taco mix, pork and chicken tacos. The tortillas were rustic. They come with an array of sides (& plenty of them!) including a pineapple/cucumber salsa, a cabbage slaw, some diced onions, coriander, tomatillo with avocado and chipotle sauce. There was also a couple of Juanita's home made sauces on the table to use. We enjoyed it all! Although quite full we couldn't resist trying the salted caramel Cheezecake. It was really delicious, thick and rich but well balanced with the addition of yoghurt, honey, bitter chocolate and praline served with it. This is a vegan option FYI! BTW - Juanita's sells delicious sauces and spices to take away ... we just had to grab one. We'll definitely head back.

The chicken mole was the best I've had in Oz, as were the corn tortillas - the latter had real flavor and must have been prepared by someone who has eaten real ones for many years in Mexico. Don't be put off by the street scene outside. The place itself was cozy and service friendly.

They have a few tables on…read morethe footpath, a front section with enough room for about 20 people, a second section accessed via a brick archway with seating for a dozen more, and a sizeable beer garden/courtyard out back. The menu is pretty much what you'd expect; tacos, burritos, quesadilla and a reasonable selection of tequilas. I ordered the Tequila-Lime tiger prawn fajitas which came with a plate of rocket, guacamole, Mexican rice and four flour tortillas. They were advertising litres of frozen watermelon margarita for $20 on the chalk board outside and as it was stinking hot that sounded like a good idea too :) The prawns arrived on a sizzling hot plate with slices of capsicum and onion - a very generous serve which was enough to fill me up without the need for an entree. There were the obligatory hot sauces on the table - four different varieties in fact - so I tried a different one on each tortilla. All good, but the Jalapeño was my favourite. Jaliscos is good and the service is fast and friendly. The total bill was $55 which included a shot of very tasty Patron Silver, so not bad value for the money.

We got a jug of frozen Margherita which was tasteless frozen cordial that had little IF any tequila in it, you'd get more drunk sucking the alcohol out of a deodorant stick!! The food was a very poor representation of Mexican, they used very cheap ingredients and it was sadly obvious that this place is either run by a tight ass or has never actually eaten Mexican food before.. The corn was ok, he nachos tasted like stale Doritos with home brand cheese that had been microwaved and the tacos were flavourless on stale flakey.. Over all we were very disappointed and at a cost of $90.00 for 2 where grossly ripped off!!

They should be embarrassed to call this Mexican. Heck, they can't even call it "Mexicanesque". It actually started off well, believe it or not. They got our hopes up with some decent margaritas. But even after drinking a jug of margaritas, this just didn't work out well. We ordered chips and salsa. The salsa was as close to ketchup as you can get without calling it ketchup. And it was small bowl for $12.50. Some poor pastor is turning over in his grave in Mexico because the "tacos al pastor" were as far from what we know they should be as possible. Imagine gristly pork done as a poor barbecue. Like really badly. And this was one step below that. I had a dish that came with french fries - and the french fries were the hit of the meal. My date and I actually dueled for them as they were the only enjoyable food on the table. Other highlights: - there was only 1 napkin on the table - even though we made it clear there was a severe avocado allergy one of the plates came with guacamole! Do yourself a favor and choose a different Mexican restaurant. Or you may want to consider fasting for the evening instead of giving these imposters any of your hard-earned money.

The food was fresh and the taste was as good as before. That was great. There were a few slip ups - idk if it's due to staff shortage or kitchen wasn't up to the mark. Nachos - I specifically requested sour cream on the side as we were all going to share it and I don't like it spread all over. We got it with sour cream on top. They were kind enough to replace it for us, just a giant waste of food :( We ordered one main each for 3 of us. 2 arrived together while I sat and whacked their face. My food arrived when others had almost finished eating, awkward! I ordered a drink that looked like was served in a martini glass. It arrived in what looked like a shot glass shaped in a form of a martini glass. The drink was good and well made though. So points for that. Dessert was a chocolate brownie sizzler. It didn't sizzle. Icecream was good. Chocolate sauce was good, brownie was cold and hard.
