Very large, beautiful, well lit dance studio and theatre teaching pole dancing and the performance…read morearts. I know of FVT through my pole dance instructor, Kirsten (Mz. K) at Sedusa Studio in Campbell. She's been one of my first pole dance instructors since 2014 at Sedusa, and have taken other pole classes with her over the years at Phoenix Pole and Aerial Arts when it was open in Berkeley as well. Mz. K has since opened FVT. Mz. K was the first pole teacher I've had who first class, asked if we've had any injuries, and what modifications we can do for them. As an acupuncturist, and Qigong instructor, I really appreciate that level of concern for students since every body is different, and helps us be more conscious of challenging movement for our physical needs. FVT is a terrific space for the pole community to expand on our dance repertoire and skills. One feels like a professional performer in that dance space. With 12 poles, there's plenty of space on smooth, gorgeous flooring to explore your sexy dance side. Did open pole dance practice and a dress rehearsal on stage to prep for PSO GG 2025 competition. Have yet to take dance classes there, but with the teachers on board, it will be a marvelous experience to explore all our pole dance dreams. Get started ASAP & get stronger and more gorgeous as you go. You won't regret it!

There's something for everyone here - dark and moody choreo classes, chair classes, Pilates-focused classes, flexibility ("fluxibility" - so cute!), intro classes for those who have never touched a pole and advanced classes for people who have trained for years. I know many dancers who drive from the far corners of the bay to train here. I can always depend on the community that flux has created - a safe space, a clean space, a welcoming space. The owners are present and feel like old friends even when you're new. I love them as instructors, performers, and mentors if you want pole career or teaching advice. If you come here, I guarantee you'll keep coming back!

What an amazing tasting experience!…read more The tasting room requires a reservation. I went there with my sister on a Sunday afternoon for their shopping experience (no rsvp required) and was greeted by Vivienne. Luckily for us, she let us know they still had two spots available for the tasting experience if we were interested and we went for it. The first part is watching the video of the sake making process. Not only was it interesting to learn about the process, but I didn't think i would enjoy the soundtrack to the video as well. The tasting experience itself was very educational and informative. They have a tasting menu you can choose for your sake flight experience and also individual tasting. I don't usually drink alcohol so I had a "non drinker" placard on my table, but it did not stop me from taking some sips from my sister's sake flight. I ended up trying the Mio sparkling sake and the Nigori Sake in White Peach -- both are very sweet like a dessert drink. I also learned why Berkeley was the ideal location for Takara Sake to have their factory, and let's just say the Bay Area is blessed with good weather, good water, and good food. We also got lucky to try one of the sake (forgot which one) they usually do not sell outside of their factory! Afterwards, we went to the museum to explore and to see the actual tools used in the sake making process. We did not see the silos though, so we might need a repeat visit. Overall ambiance is very nice. Exudes calmness with Japanese architecture designs. The tasting room cost can be quite pricey especially when you start adding individual tasting to the flight tasting. They do sell sake (duh) so if you tried one you like, it can be convenient for you to get it there. If you are in Berkeley and are wondering where else to explore, definitely check this place if you like sake and appreciate the art and science that goes into making them!

Amazing tasting experience with Vivienne!…read more She's so enthusiastic about sake, I enjoyed hearing her talk about each sake. What a gem of a woman! We opted for the daiginjo tasting menu- they newly refreshed their tasting offerings to offer more tiers to choose from. We got lucky and tried their Nama Nama sake in house - this is a sake that's so fresh from the brewery it's brought in unbottled to the tasting room and they don't sell it anywhere else outside of the tasting room. Would come back to do another tasting or get a pour here. This experience was so great- I loved how quiet the tasting room was and the large art mobiles in the tasting room.

In all those years I have had wonderful interactions with the owner, April Higashi and all of her staff. I've found everyone at Shibumi to be uniquely creative, collaborative, extremely ethical and fair. I have bought various pieces from Shibumi and had several heirloom pieces redesigned and remade. Stones that are inherited, handed down with love, hold a lot of emotion and meaning. They are also a thing of intrinsic value. I have always had complete trust in April and all her staff. Having good communication and trust in executing a creative idea and working out any of the issues with a special piece of jewelry is what make the process feel collaborative and fun. And yes, it's always been fun. Shibumi is a place I visit sometimes just for a hit a beauty, just to look around and see a beautiful and well curated space and of course incredible jewelry. I've joked that when I've had some jewelry remade I call that having it "Shibumerized". I feel very fortunate that Shibumi Gallery exists - a trusted, beloved and very special place. mb

The 20th Annual Jazz on Forth Festival took place on Sunday 5/17/15 from 11AM to 5PM. I was on my way to have breakfast brunch with my dinner crew and seen all the stages and booth set up! It was such a delight. They had two music stages: One near Bette's Diner and the other near the Pasta Shop. Both stages were playing great music and had a lovely band that had me swinging my hips back and forth. They had tons of food booths even Bette's Diner selling many different varieties of foods such as: Corn on the cob, Pizza, BBQ and hotdogs. They even had a free photo booth from Photolabatory.com which is a photo print lab! Although I didn't get a chance to take a free photo I will definitely look for that booth next year! I will definitely be back to this again next year! It was tons of fun and so many venders! WAY TO GO JAZZ ON FOURTH!

I cannot recommend the Institute of Urban Homesteading's Cheese Making Intensive enough…read more This day and a half "intensive" is a combination of the cheese making 1, 2 and 3 classes, taught by IUH founder Ruby. It's fast-paced and she throws a lot of information at you, but the whole process is warm, interactive and accessible. I immediately felt like I could leave Ruby's home and make these cheeses (and other dairy products!) we had learned in my own. I especially love that she's found what seems like the perfect middle ground between science lesson and home-cook/homesteader understanding. She brings her personal experience in with just enough of the science and technical understanding to make home cheese making incredible accessible and attainable. I also love that IUH also has a sliding scale for fees because it demonstrates the value they put on what they teach in making these classes more widely accessible. I already have the summer farm tours on my calendar, and I can't wait to take my next class.

I just tried again today using their "unsubscribe" link. What I got back was NOT a confirmation that I'd been unsubscribed. Rather, it was a detailed email from an unknown (to me) mail server company which wanted me to click on THEIR link to actually unsubscribe. I'm not about to click on an unknown link from an unknown sender. I think a direct request using the "Unsubscribe" link in an Urban Homestead email and sent from the very email address I want unsubscribed is absolutely sufficient. I do not recommend getting on their email list.
