Really small Costco Gas station in central Houston with 3 islands with 2 pumps each, for a total of…read more12 nozzles. It is located close to the costco parking lot and entrance, and doesn't have a very large staging area if it gets busy. Strangely there was no wait at 5 pm on a Thursday night, so we were in and out. Like other Costco gas station islands, it only requires one tap with your Citi costco card to validate your membership and mark your visa as the payment method (seems to be the best way since it gives back 5% back in cash rewards).

It was last week that I was passing through, after a visit to the seafood markets in Kemah, and I…read moredecided to stop for some winning scratch-offs. I was also interested in the availability of gas as this place was shown on the news for continually running pumps (and totals due) even after the pump was shut off and consumers had completed their fueling process. The news visited at least 2 times, and both of which the specific pump was still operable. As I entered the parking lot, it was clear that ALL pumps were out of service. However, the parking lot near the store part was still quite full. As I approached the door, there was a sign that warned customers that only cash was being accepted. As I asked the "gentleman" behind the counter for the particular scratch-off that I wanted, he rolled his beastly ass up from the floor, wearing his brightly colored vest, spit his tobacco juice into an old used soda bottle, squinted his eye at me, and just stood there looking at me. I politely asked again. He then made it clear that he was offended by the fact that I thought he worked there. I gave myself a 2-second check of my surroundings, apologized for the confusion as he was the only person behind the counter, suggested he find some sort of employment that causes him to present himself in a more becoming manner, and waited for the true clerk to emerge. As I waited, I also noticed that the only other customer in the store was another man, who had clearly just left the beach and was planning for more beer and snack. As he piled his goods on the counter and returned to the shopping area for more, I made the same request to the "real" clerk who emerged from the back, on his cellular phone, seeming cursing and clearly fussing, all while not ending his phone call in any sort of a hurry. Such was a clear indication that he was not expecting too many customers...As I made my request, he quickly said: oh, I can't sell any of those. As I pulled away, I realized the vehicles in the parking lot were present for the same thing: to repair or remedy the problem with the gas pumps. Either way, I won't be returning anytime soon as it also became clear that this place probably shouldn't be open, is only taking cash to avoid precautions put in place to protect consumers, is clearly avoiding the GOVERNMENT, and probably knows nothing of taxes. Situated at the intersection of Kingspoint and Sabo, Kingspoint Mart is like any convenience gas…read morestation store in Houston with some notable observations: :: Gas is cheaper here than almost any other place in South Houston. It is consistently 15-20 cents lower than most places and even gives Costco and Sam's Club pricing a run for their money. Plus the pumps are clean and the wait is usually minimal since this is a sleepier part of town. :: They have a working ATM. This might not sound that remarkable, but so many convenience stores have muddied up machines with questionable maintenance and even skimmers (#1) on occasion. That doesn't happen here since their machine is purely a digital screen. :: Most places have an apathetic staff and the experiences are transactional and out but not here. They greet folks, are quick with purchases, and do it with a smile. Considering the sheer range of cast of characters they encounter, this is actually impressive. :: There is a corner of the store where a stash of figurines, mini-shrines, random knick knacks are being sold for a significant markup. It feels a bit like a niche garage sale, except all of the items are propped up on the counter over large ice bins of cold drinks. I'm not sure if I would buy anything from here but it stands out big time. :: Bathrooms should probably be avoided. If one has to go, then by all means, but the situation in there is usually not pleasant. You've been warned. ___________ (#1) Make sure the card reader isn't detachable.
